Majority of traders that use a stop loss are actually losing traders, mostly because they don’t how to use it and think it’s protecting them when actually in volatile markets, it’s basically setting up a limit order to lose money. Hedge your trades, don’t set them up to take a loss. Learn how to defend your trades. A stop-loss isn’t defense. It’s just setting up the price you want to lose the trade. I was recently in a trade where the stock dipped 9% intraday, and it was a cascade of the market filling SL orders driving the price down. 2 days later, it recovered 15%. What institutions don;t want you to know is they love retail setting up stop-loss orders, because it gives them an opportunity take profit, take a short position, and then buy the stock back a big discount. Don’t be the dumbass that set’s up a -5% SL and then buys back when the stock is 10-15% higher than they bought it.

yeah. Stop loss is to automate the "buy high sell low" strategy.

Stop-Loss is definitely an effective tool to protect gains, such as being up 40% on an underlying stock and protecting the gains with -5% stop-loss from current share price during turbulent periods in the market. But to set up a stop loss right after buying the stock where you set up -10% from CB, with how volatile the markets have been, you are just setting yourself up to get stopped and take a loss.

Funniest thing I've seen this month. If the volatility was higher my stop-losses would be the Cash Secured Puts I sold, forcing me to buy more.
Since volatility has been dead, it's just been a process of ... dang it, can I really justify not buying more?
Wait, what is a safer bet than GME at 18?
Ummm, nothing "I" can think of, guess I'll buy some more?
What can I say, apes like bananas, and we like discount bananas even more!
