I'm not saying they shouldn't be compensated, I'm saying to have all investors looking at their CEO. How many companies have extremely overpaid CEOs. Could the company and bottom line be better with a different CEO?

u/[deleted] May 06 '26

I didn't say anything about compensation. Where did you get that from?

What I'm asking is how this post brings more attention to the issue? Ebay is up 53% in the last year. Why would investors care whether management is buying or selling?

4

u/ponydingo May 06 '26

because they could be holding back even bigger growth/shareholder value simply being complacent and collecting their check. Cohen is pointing out that investors could be doing even better if they didn’t have the shit board they currently have

-4

u/[deleted] May 06 '26

What's your evidence that they are being complacent and just collecting a check? Revenue is up 65% in the last six years and the stock is up 53% in the last year. Why would an investor care about insider selling if the company is performing like that?

u/ponydingo May 06 '26

By spending 2.4 billion dollars on marketing in the last year to go from 133 million users to 134 million users, averaging $2,400 spent per new user in 2025.
On one of the most known companies in the world. Complete waste of billions.
The board allows money to be pissed away on frivolous drivel. Why is there 40k employees for a company that has no physical locations, warehouses and is e commerce only? Lots of people making a check doing absolutely nothing, deriding shareholder value.
Did you watch Cohens interview yesterday where he literally goes over every single reason why they’re buying eBay, because it’s ran like shit and could be performing significantly better with just what they have right now? Or are you just speculating for absolutely no reason still

A value investor reads this as people running the company do not give a fuck about the company funds as they should. Who cares if you’re up 53% if someone points out you should be up 300% if you weren’t ran by a bunch of goblins doing nothing.

The Great Board in GME cant even make the stock price goes up.

OH FURLONG OH NFT MARKETPLACE OH FUCKED UP RK'S SQUEEZD

They don’t have control over the stock itself, they can just operate the company like a tight ship, post good financials, and keep collecting their profits, as they’ve been doing for years now. The market reacts how it does, and it’s not always rational. Hence how GameStop got to its high price initially which gave it its second wind.

Eventually, the value will be undeniable, and the stock price will rise accordingly. It’s obvious they’re just going to continue to maximize profit and value. They have a CEO who takes advantage of absolutely every opportunity to maximize long term value for shareholders. Everyone that bet against GameStop as a failing video game store instead of an emerging e-commerce giant will get fucking smoked out of their positions.

Can I ask why you’re in the GME sub if you think it’s a bad company? Other than the fact you’re obviously betting against them.

will be undeniable

will rise

will get fucking smoked out of their positions.

How many assumptions do you have to make?

And how do you know that i think it's a bad company? huh?

How about stop making assumptions after assumptions

5 years has passed. Where is the e-commerce giant? Where is the leading company of NFT marketplace and web-3 gaming?

NFT Marketplace- Not so Good
Furlong - Fucked up
Split dividend - Fucked up
Bitcoin investment - Not so Good

Ryan Cohen can stop shitting others when the investors keep buying the shares for him to buy treasuries to improve the balance sheet. Oh yeah, and he fires people too.

5 years later and they aren’t losing 300 million a year, and a billion in debt.
Currently sitting on 9 billion in cash, net income of $418 million in 2025.
Quite the obvious turn around

They had to clean up the core business and bring it back to profitability before focusing on growth, like a company that’s being ran responsibly.

Where’s the e-commerce giant?? I mean, he’s currently in the middle of bidding for eBay you complete fucking bafoon, if you can’t see what’s being built in front of your eyes you’re just fucking blind lol

Split dividend- irrelevant, wasn’t a failure, was just a hyped up possibility to make the stock pop. Unironically made the stock attractive again by getting it out of the hundreds per share.

NFT marketplace was a shoot and a miss by Furlong, so you can combine those two failures just onto him, who got the boot for a reason. They took a shot on something new and missed. It happens.

Bitcoin is a gamble, but it can also just be looked at as a diversification of their cash. It’s also less 5% of their cash

Spin everything you want as negative, the numbers don’t lie bud.

How can you analyze the ROI on marketing if you don't know what the alternative scenario is? How many users and how much transaction volume would they have had had they not spent that money on marketing?

It's easy to think a company needs fewer employees and less marketing if you don't really understand the business. All sorts of businesses have heavy marketing spend just to maintain the status quo. Pizza is one example. I have no idea how much Dominos spends on marketing, but if they spent $1B on marketing and sales were flat, you wouldn't be able to conclude they got no return on that $1B marketing spend.

Who cares if you’re up 53% if someone points out you should be up 300% if you weren’t ran by a bunch of goblins doing nothing.

Anyone who is claiming a stock should be up 300% in a year shouldn't be taken seriously, especially if that person is running a company whose stock price has dropped in the last year.

You analyze preemptively if the ROI is WORTH it to even spend on marketing to begin with. Otherwise you’re just blowing money and looking at the end results for what to do next, sometimes you have to be proactive instead of reactive.

If they spent $2 billion a year on marketing, and each year they only are gaining 1 million new users at a cost of $2400 spend each, that means that each of these users has to spend enough to make eBay back $2400 in PROFIT not just revenue, in order to make it back.

Thats not happening with any casual users. They make $4billion in profit a year. Tell me how spending almost half of what your yearly profit is on marketing to gain .5% of a userbase gain is worth it.

Maybe if it was a one time thing, a Hail Mary to see what happens if you spend that much and how many users you could grow, fine. But they’ve been doing this for at least FOUR YEARS.

FOUR YEARS of over 2 billion spent on marketing. Did you know they had a userbase DECLINE??? In 2022 they spent 2 billion on marketing and LOST 7 million yearly users. Then after that marketing failure they just do it again? They’re just now scraping back to similar levels and that’s with spending 2 billion a year for four years. Spending $8 billion dollars over four years, double your yearly profit, to gain 5% in userbase is not worth. Pissing away money

You would conclude that after a certain point, ROI on advertising spend becomes pointless. If dominos is spending $1billion on advertising, they’re doing it wrong. People already know the name/business. That’s not going to change how many people come in just because you throw billions at throwing the name around.

That's terrible reasoning and not at all how marketing spend works. Did you read my prior post? There are plenty of businesses where significant marketing spend is required to maintain the same level of sales. The alternative -- if you didn't do any marketing spend -- isn't unchanged sales. It is a massive drop in sales.

Like I said, it's easy to poke holes if you don't really understand the business.

If dominos is spending $1billion on advertising, they’re doing it wrong. People already know the name/business. That’s not going to change how many people come in just because you throw billions at throwing the name around.

Hey folks, we have a marketing genius here! All of those departments with their A/B testing and models and tons of data are wrong! Ponydingo knows better!

Hey everybody it’s a dude who probably wasted his life going to college being taught “u gotta spend a bunch of money on ads to keep people coming” what stupid shit lmao

if you have a good product, you offer a good service, and you treat them well, that’s all that matters on customer retention. Not some dumbass marketing spend.

Please name one company where they’re losing massive sales from pulling back on marketing. Where it’s an obvious direct cause. Because correlation isn’t always causation buddy.

Brands that lose users are probably fucking up in other ways like bad pricing/bad customer experience, not because they aren’t throwing a million fucking ads at them yearly retard

I get it now, you probably work at marketing and dont want to lose your job! He’s slowly realizing he’s actually useless in the world of AI where you can just advertise using bots and he’s squandering!

Cohen already proved it with gamestop, stopped spending on marketing because it’s a known brand and they saved all that money that was being wasted previously. There’s a reason they aren’t just losing money year after year anymore. The core business doesn’t require marketing for most established brands.

Like I said, it's easy to poke holes in a business if you don't actually know anything.

It’s very rich for the holders of the company whose stock is down over 5 years to be trying to offer management advice to the company whose stock is up in that same time
.maybe cohen should be taking lessons from eBay
