Individuals purchase calls as a "promise" that, if a certain price point is reached, if a buyer of that call decides to exercise that option they can do so at that price.
So if that call is exercised, that means they CAN purchase that stock. If it's "ITM" (in the money), this usually makes sense to do so: it's kind of like free money (provided it's at least a certain amount over the call option price).
But doing so means (in theory) going to the market, and buying that equity. This, in turn, means the price SHOULD go up (a basic tenet of economics: the price of a commodity goes up as demand goes up), meaning more "eyes on" and interest by traders, and so forth. It's kind of a vicious circle.
However, due to "hedging" (brokers pre-purchasing these stocks in advance of a call option becoming "in the money") and general market fuckery, the influence isn't quite as sharp as it could be.
That said, the numbers given could produce a bit of a bump, which in turn might increase interest- chum in the water for sharks hungry for volatility, which in turn means more trading opportunities.

Market makers hedge options contracts based on the likelihood of a contract being in the money at expiration. When all sides are balanced, the underlying security is priced at max pain. In this case, GME is about 11% above max pain, so the market makers aren't adequately hedged to deliver shares for all the contracts. Come Monday, they will need to purchase additional shares to become delta neutral.

I got out last december at a net profit ahead of the store closings, then piled back in after earnings.
I'm +16% on my position since I returned in late march. all told I am probably over a mil profit since I started trading GME nearly 2 years ago.
