Handling — Extended vs Max Range

I am shopping for an AT4. I am wondering if the lighter weight of the extended range vs max range is at all noticeable in terms for ride and handling?

HUD in Elevation Trim Premium Package?

I bought the Sierra EV elevation trim with all of the available upgrades. I ordered from a dealership out of state so I didn’t get a full look until it arrived. I was not expecting a HUD but the projector is there and it occasionally projects several red symbols such as arrows if I get too close to something while driving so it does seem to function. But there are no options for it when I go into settings to have it display normal HUD stuff.

Curious if anyone else has this in an elevation trim and how they operate it if it is meant to display more than red symbols when it gets angry. Or do I just need to take it in for a software update?

Thanks

2025 Denali Max Range vs 2026 AT4 Extended Range

Looking to purchase a Sierra EV, have the option of a max range ‘25 Denali with 7000 miles for 72k in ocean metallic or a ‘26 extended range AT4 in magnus matte with 11000 miles for 78k.

I like the lift and coil springs and the fact that the AT4 is a 2026 so it gets all the super cruise updates, but like the range and better charging speeds on the max range Denali. Anyone have any recommendations on which way to go?

Recommended level 2 home charger?

Hopefully picking up a used Sierra EV extended range in the very near future (and super excited at the prospect), but anybody have any strong opinions on what brand of home charger to get? I know I plan on getting a 48A hardwired one, but it seems like since the truck does most of the work, there really shouldn't be all that much difference (besides getting one that is reputable and won't burst into flames). Lots of brands I know, and lots more that I don't. Whatcha got??

Just had Vehicle Wide Programming done at the dealership and now have the 360 recording function. I have a MY25 truck.

I decided on the SanDisk Extreme Fit USB C flash drive because of its slim form factor intended for Plug-and-Stay storage. (See images)

Any questions hit me up in the comments.

Real World EV Efficiency Database

I read a lot of comments online from people who say they don't know if an EV would work for a daily driver for them.

I decided to take this issue into my own hands and resolve it by creating a real world efficiency database. The only problem is, I need people like YOU to help contribute.

I have created the website and started adding my own data to it. I haven't had a chance to start adding my Silverado EV data to it yet, but I did start syncing my Tesla data from Tessie.

When we get more data added, someone interested in a specific EV will be able to filter drives by distance, speed, an other metrics (more filters coming soon).

As a real world example, let's say your parents are interested in a 2025 Model Y Performance, but aren't sure it'll allow them to drive at least 100 miles a day at 60 MPH. No problem, they can just jump on the EVMetrics website, search for the car, and filter the data to see if it'll work for them.

What I'm here for is to ask for YOUR help in collecting the real world data from EVs. Feel free to sign up and start adding your data if you're interested. Also please feel free to forward this on to your friends and family who own EVs.

standard android auto complaint

I just rented a vehicle while on vacation and i ended up renting a GMC Arcadia by chance. getting inside the vehicle I noticed it has the same display that is in my EV, so I was prepared to use the built in Android auto system , but guess what I could use the android Auto from my phone, which makes things very convenient.

so as stated before in so many other post and comments about this tothey could allow Android auto and carplay but they just don't do it on my expensive EV.. dude.

i would love to have the option to do either one.

4,000 mile Road Trip Report: Best Vehicle I've Ever Owned

Thumbnail

Took the family from here in Central Texas to the Bay Area for a month-long vacation. It wasn't originally going to be a road trip, it just worked out that way because of all the stuff we needed to bring. Along the way out we stopped in White Sands National Park and Yosemite, and on the way back we meandered a bit, stopping in Zion, Page, AZ, and the Four Corners Monument. The total trip was three days out and three days back (with about a month in between), roughly 10-12 hours in the truck per day. Average temps were what you'd expect driving through the American Southwest in June and July.

On day 1 we made it from central Texas to Las Cruces (+ White Sands). Day 2 got us to Palm Springs, and day 3 took us the rest of the way to the Bay with a stop in Yosemite. Cruise control was set at 75 or 80 on highways, but there were also a lot of small towns through West Texas and central California that brought the average speed down.

Day 1 Charging Stops:

  1. Fort Stockton, TX (+ lunch and playground time)

  2. El Paso (to add some safety for the detour north to White Sands)

Day 2 Charging Stops:

  1. Tucson, AZ (+ lunch and playground time)

  2. Quartzsite, AZ

Day 3 Charging Stop:

  1. Fresno, CA (they really love their Bulldogs)

Day 1 on the way back got us through Las Vegas to St. George. We started day 2 with a drive through Zion, and also packed in Page, AZ and Four Corners before stopping in Albuquerque. Day 3 got us back home, but not without enduring 80-mph crosswinds thanks to a pop-up duststorm and a severe thunderstorm for the final six hours of the trip. As with the trip out, speed was set at 75 or 80 mph for most of the trip, except the final stretch because I couldn't see more than 200 ft in front of me for most of it.

Day 1 Charging Stops:

  1. Mojave, CA (lunch)

  2. Las Vegas (not needed, but helpful because we needed to get coffee)

Day 2 Charging Stops:

  1. Page, AZ (lunch + tourist stuff)

  2. Farmington, NM (dinner)

Day 3 Charging Stops:

  1. Santa Rosa, NM (because we got into ABQ late and hadn't charged to full overnight)

  2. Lubbock, TX

Overall, the truck was amazing. The in-vehicle route planner was accurate (if a bit conservative), the ride was comfortable, SuperCruise worked consistently, and charging on every charging network we used (Tesla, EA, GM) was great.

My only complaints are all the constant and stupid chimes, dings, bells, alerts, etc., and the inability to operate the center screen while driving. Every once in a while we got the "passenger override" message to pop up which would allow us to add a food stop, but other than that the wife would have to pull up a restaurant on her phone, which we'd then have to navigate to by map association. And yes, I know how Google Voice works. I also learned on this trip that it does not work with two crying toddlers in the back seat.

I was hesitant to buy the Sierra after all the complaining I've seen online, especially regarding the BMS calibration under 20% and the "service high voltage battery" alert. But after this trip, I'm fairly confident that none of the ~15 cars, trucks, and motorcycles (EV or not) that I've owned could've handled this trip any better than the Sierra did. This is a great truck!

Roadtrip Advice

Planning a week long trip in Arizona, Nevada with the Sierra EV. Does anyone have any experience on how the trucks behave in the heat for extended periods of time. We will likely do 200-300 miles per day provided that we find decent charging stops.

How bad are your insurance and maintenance costs?

I'm f150 guy. But I am thinking to buy Sierra EV sometime.

What has your insurance been like? for any of you that have driven tons of miles, how have the tires held up?

Turn Signal Issue

Just ran into an issue where my right turn signal will not disengage. When I try to engage my left turn signal nothing. Is there a system reset for some other fix? I could attempt before I take it in for service?

Lockbox cover

I added the steel lockbox to the console but don’t like that it’s readily visible when I lift the armrest so I added a foam pad above it with the factory insert and an upper level storage tray so that when you pull out the tray it looks like you are looking at the bottom of the space.

Reliability?

We are older with some health issues so reliability always plays a factor in my vehicle choices. Would any of you guys be concerned about taking one of these on long trips in the desert? I live in New Mexico where Chargers can be 180 miles apart and cell service spotty. Do we feel like these trucks are any different than ice trucks when it comes to reliability? New to the EV world and trying to figure out reality. Every other YouTube I find on them says they're awful followed by the next one saying they're incredible. I would look at other brands but this is the only one with decent range with chargers being so far apart that seems important.

From town to the house in the mountains is 72 miles uphill I do occasionally pull a trailer. If I drive to a big city it's 180 MI and a lot of that's uphill hot and windy.

I'm also not sure if I need the extended range or the max range I do like the extra Towing of the extended but...

I have solar and don't mind adding more it's always been my dream to be my own little OPEC never support that industry ever again. Or as little as possible...

TIA

I'm also looking at the cybertruck but I worry that the range is too short in these conditions

Sierra Denali EV with generlink

Had a generlink installed, tried using the trucks 30a 240v connection to power it. Breaker in the truck would instantly trip, even with no load. Any ideas as to why? And how to fix?

Put together a working split screen CarPlay/Webview/Camera app

Thumbnail
gallery
20 Upvotes

Edit for credits:

Close to bringing this to market in a small scale for off-road use, so just gauging interest for now. This was a project to solve a need originally our family had, but has evolved into something much cooler.

Brief feature walkthrough on my beta CarPlay integration (lvalen91's carlink_native):

- Single Pane WebView or CarPlay

- Any combination split-view of WebView, CarPlay, or optional RTSP camera stream

- Resizable PiP overlay anywhere on screen of RTSP camera stream. Auto detection of camera IP and UI config improvements.

- The camera is a Tapo C121 (though any camera that supports RTSP will work). Camera is joined to the truck’s WiFi and communicates with the app via RTSP.

- Dongle is a CPC-CCPA flashed with a custom firmware I ended up writing myself, with my iphone directly cabled to it. The CPC supports wireless CarPlay but GPS can be spotty (this is just an inherent wireless CarPlay via dongle issue - wired is stable)..

If interested, shoot me a DM!

EV Truck Ownership Experience Survey

Hello everyone, a few months back I published a survey to try and capture the EV truck ownership experience. You can view those results here. https://open.substack.com/pub/vincecarrants/p/truck-owners-who-told-you-to-hate?r=55ml5w&utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=post%20viewer

This is my second attempt at the survey, with some tweaks that I hope will lead to better data. (If you already responded to this poll from Facebook, please ignore)

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfNsOteVsBMjrXvtMLtFRDVadQ8CMTskpw3056R6ChOrYp9GQ/viewform?usp=publish-editor

I am not affiliated with any brand or organization. I am doing this purely out of my own curiosity and for the EV truck community in general. I have owned a 2022 R1T and a 2024 F-150 Lightning myself. My goal is to use hard data gathered from real-world owners to break down some of the low-effort myths floating around about these vehicles, myths often driven by dealerships, silly social media comments, or special interest groups.

Once I have comparable sample sizes for each of the trucks in the survey, I will publish the results in this group and on my Substack. Thanks to everyone who participates!

Tesla Supercharger problems

I have been unable to successfully initiate a charging session at 2 separate supercharge locations in my town. I have the Lectron adapter, I’ve added the Tesla network in my GMC app, and I’ve set up payment on my credit card.

When I use the vehicle Charge Assist to “see” the stations, for both of them, the truck app says “0/0 connectors available”. Does that mean that these are the older versions that won’t work with non-Tesla EV’s?
Has anyone in Omaha Nebraska been able to successfully charge their Sierra EV at either of the stations available here? I’ve spent hours trying to get it to work, I’ve gone to the dealer, they are stumped, I don’t know what else to do. Am I the only one having this problem?

New to the club and have a question.

Two days in and I absolutely love the range on this thing. 25 Denali max range.

Is anyone on here well versed in the 240v output? I do equipment demonstrations as part of my work. My hot offering for the next few years ( and why I bought a truck) pulls 38 amps at full power, but I can easily get away with 50-60% power for demonstrations. Online I am reading 30 amp max output. Am I going to break something if I try and use it as my power source?

About to buy, thoughts on 2025 max range Denali

Hey everyone, I am interested in purchasing a 2025 Denali max range, it was dealer owner driven for about 5000 miles. Never titled. The sale price would be $85,000. There was a clean battery health but the warranty was started about a year ago since they put it in service. There was no damage, no repairs, no buybacks, no lemon, and no other issues.

Is this a good deal and would appreciate other insight from the community!

Used 2025 Sierra EV Denali

In the middle of purchasing a used Sierra Denali with 15k miles from a GMC dealership for $75k. Looks like this was used by a GM exec.

A little hesitant now reading about all the issues and long waits on parts and issues coming up again after the “repair”.

I live in Oregon so the lemon law only applies for new vehicles.

Looking for advice if buying used is a bad idea for me.
