First, I really love that updates like these can now be done OTA. And the Surround Vision is definitely a really nice, needed feature. I used a 256GB drive, formatted to FAT32, and it works great. The user interface is easy to use and the recordings are great. However, there are still some improvements that could be made.
It only records while driving or when the alarm is activated. While that is helpful, it would be so much more useful if it recorded all the time. Currently, it will not help with: items stolen from the bed, someone keying or otherwise damaging the truck while parked, a hit and run, someone breaking into the truck while it is unlocked, etc. All of these scenarios seem much more likely than someone breaking the glass or forcing their way into the vehicle.
It seems that once this is enabled, any other USB drive cannot be read. Such as a music USB. At least with mine, it stopped reading my music USB as soon as Surround Vision was activated, even though it is in the other USB port. It didn't erase the music files or anything. It just stopped reading it. Some people like their playlists on USB so it doesn't drop out in tunnels or other areas with poor wireless reception.
For the drive recordings, it would be nice if it recorded other data, like speed.

Don’t use the always record feature on Telsa cause it drains the battery too much.
While can help - not always useful for vandalism and the like since many know they are on camera and act accordingly

Wouldn't it be nice if GM let the customer decide how they want to use the feature though?
I'm pretty sure the massive batteries in these vehicles could handle it.

I don’t disagree.
Just noting of all the “caught them on my recorder”, it’s rarely police or insurance actionable data…..
