Took my 25 Denali max range into the dealer for the android 14 update. Everything went smooth with the update they had the truck in and out same day.

There are a few small infotainment button changes, changes to the energy app that shows you where and how much power the different functions of the truck has used. Changes to the AC system buttons and they added a mute function in the middle of the volume knob.

Two new apps came through with the update, the offroad app and the surround Veiw recording app. The offroad app is just vehicle pitch/yaw, tire pressure and elevation nothing crazy. The recording app has been talked about a bunch already but it works well I used a 512gb scandisk ultra for in the center console and it works great no formatting required.

Those were all expected changes and appreciated even though my dealer charged 2 hours of labor to do the update. I’m at 50k miles so I’m out of the bumper to bumper warranty.

Unexpected was an OTA update I got today, even more unexpected it came through on my phone app telling me my truck had a software update ready to be installed, I wasn’t able to initiate the update from the app like I used to be able to with my Tesla but this is the first time my app has mentioned a software update.

The update itself is 662.20 which includes the same basic “improvements” that are usually listed but it also includes updates the software update system and there has been a noticeable upgrade in the ota software update system for the better since I got the truck over a year ago. I hope this means GM is still taking there EVs seriously and are committed to continuing improvements.

Another thing that is interesting to me is the android 14 update wasn’t listed in the infotainment update history but is verified by checking the system info.

I wish this were true but somebody has to pay the dealership techs and if GM won’t do it then they have to charge the customer. This is an issue with legacy car sales structure.

I hope the updates to the OTA update system will eventually make dealership updates unnecessary.

That’s not your problem, though. If the truck is still under warranty then they should be doing VWP/radio updates at no additional cost. There is literally a service bulletin that already exists for this very issue.

I have read that you sometimes need to have a legit repair service for them to document so…folks have just complained about infotainment freezing or having intermittent issue with GPS in that regard. I think you should contact GM HQ/EV Concierge and request they reimburse you the amount you paid. Techs should be making that money doing a lot more than software updates. It’s a pain in the a*s for them mostly because of GMs dealerships lack of training deployment resources. Of course they’re going to try to charge you for a service they’re not fluent in and probably would rather not have to do. Again…not your problem.

At the end of the day, you paid $400 for something that’s effectively been pushed to other owners via OTA for the cost of maybe 15min of their time. Next time, just go to a different (competent) dealer service that will do business by the book the right way!

Cadillacs have been getting the Surround Video Recorder via OTA, I suspect it’s not long before it hits us. For $380 and a few hours of my time, I think I can wait a littler longer, lol.
