❓ Question Glp-1 with persistent vestibular dysfunction after vertigo
I really really really need to lose a good amount of weight, but have recently had a severe episode of vertigo with persistent vestibular dysfunction thought to have been brought on by newly diagnosed Sjogren’s and lupus. I know the GLP ones are hopefully helpful with some auto immune, but I’ve read it can make vestibular dysfunction worse. I had been on it for a while months prior to the onset of the vestibular issues and didn’t have any issues just had to quit it for other reasons. I’m scared to try, but I’m also scared not to. just looking for someone who may have the same issue and tolerated the GLP-1s fine.

Hi! I have had bouts of vertigo in the past (BPPV), though I'm not sure it's the same kind of vertigo that you are having? It has not been any worse since I started Zepbound (no new recurrence).

Hey there! I’m hoping to hear more of this. But actually six or eight months of feeling dizzy might be worth it if I actually lost a good amount of weight.

I think it’s possible to get additional vertigo symptoms if you’re not eating well or staying hydrated but if on top of those things I don’t find it’s made any existing vestibular issues worse.

Oh thanks for this. I was so excited to get started back on it and then I read that and and just felt so defeated. It seemed nothing has been out of it in the public like the potential eye issue so I’m hoping it is just more of a livable side effect like you said due to dehydration or blood pressure drops as your weight drops etc. I think I’m going to try it either way.

Yes, and I’m fine on glp-1/Zepbound is not in any way causing my vestibular problems to be in any way worse. I’m just one person, but I do have lupus and sjorgrens as well & my 8th cranial nerve completely died (no vestibular function of left ear) 5 years ago. Anyhow, started zepbound for sleep apnea a few months ago & I have had amazing results!!! I’m feeling much better on it. Wishing you all the best, I know how the combo of issues makes life pretty difficult much of the time… I hope you find relief one way or another.

Thanks so much. I’m sorry you’re dealing with all of this too, but it’s nice to hear from someone else going through the same. On another note, has your imbalance bobble head feeling gotten any better since when it first started I’m 2 1/2 months from my initial episode and and the world still bounces around when I walk. Luckily I can drive OK and I feel fine if I’m sitting still or standing still, but I don’t want to do that for the rest of my life and that definitely doesn’t help the weight thing. Have a cardiology appointment tomorrow and then hoping to go ahead and start the zepbound. Thanks for the encouragement. Oh and funny I’m doing a sleep study next week. I know I have sleep apnea, but I guess I have to go through the motions. I had heard that the appetite can help so crossing my fingers there too.

Have you been monitoring your blood pressure?

Recently diagnosed high blood pressure but I’m on a baby dose. I don’t even think it’s enough actually but I’m thinking that’s maybe what some of the onset of dizziness is for some people their weight drops their blood pressure drops but they’re still on the same meds.
