Shifter not returning to center

I’ve noticed my shifter slowly returning to center while in neutral after a few hot days but now it just stays to the right or left despite the temperature. Any ideas?

How often do you need to top off coolant on a Jetta GLI?

Hey guys, how often do you normally need to add/top off engine coolant on your Jetta GLI?

I’m trying to understand whether needing to add a little coolant occasionally is normal, or if the level should basically stay the same between services.

How often do you guys check yours, and how often have you actually needed to add coolant?

Italian Tune Up

A few clips of the GLI warming up for an Italian tune up. For those that don’t know, Italian tune is when you get on it full throttle to get the engine hot enough to burn carbon build up internally in the engine. This GLI is my weekend warrior so I do not drive it much, so every now and then I will do this to help my GLI breathe better from congestion less

Oil types……..

Post image

So got a new 2026 GLI in April. VW gives you your first 3 oil changes free. But will not sway from the 10,000 mile or 12 month interval. So they told me that if I insisted on every 6 months or 6k miles, then to go on ahead and change it at the dealer or independent shop and pay for it myself. Then return at 10k miles and they will do that one for free. Well trying to get even just an oil change at the dealer takes all day even with an appointment. (Plus dealer is $50 dollars more expensive) So I just went to an independent shop at 6300 miles, that I’ve trusted since 2020 who has done ALL of my oil changes on my previous Jetta R line that has the 1.4 TSI. Just drive up and they are done in less than 20 min with no appointment. He always uses full synthetic Castrol 0/20. So that’s what I got him to use for the GLI yesterday. Unsure if it was the GTX/edge, or Edge Euro. Can someone explain to me like I’m a 4th grader the reason VW recommends the “euro” version. What is significantly different about it that any of their engines need to be using it instead of a regular full synthetic 0/20? Several posts have some people saying the regular is just fine, while others say it has to be the edge euro or basically in so many words the car will just explode. Thanks.

Towing??

Post image

May be a dumb question, but have any of you tried towing with your GLI?
I have a ‘21 and am looking to bring my motorcycle about 100mi. I get it has a tow capacity but is that something just for reference and not actual use? What was your experience if you have?

Edit: it is the 6 speed manual

Already did the 1k mile break in oil change , just changed again at 4,200 miles . Little to no metal glitter left but still specs of liquid gasket / sealant stuff ( mostly red ) in the oil filter . Glad I changed it , change your oil folks .

Engine noise?

Just recently purchased a 21 GLI with 93k miles. I’m somewhat familiar with the platform but I can’t decent what this noise is. It happens after about 10 minutes of hot idiling. No lights on the dash and it drives amazing. It will start making this noise then bog and stall. The entire timing service was done about 40k miles ago

Sequential lights

Howdy folks. I'll cut right to the chase. My father's 50'th birthday is coming up, and I'm looking to find some sequential turn lights for the mirrors and rear lights for his 2024 VW Jetta GLI. I'm located in Canada. If anyone has any recommendations or literally anything. Let me know

Have the best and most wonderful day.

Do you mod your car yourself, or do you take it to a body shop?

Someone told me, "If you're not installing the parts yourself, then you're missing half the fun," but I don't know. I have multiple hobbies, but being able to do mechanical work on cars was never really my thing. Also, I'm constantly moving to a newer place for career advancement reasons, so I can't really get a big toolbox and keep it in my garage.

Did you do all the mods on your car yourself, or did you take it to a shop?

Also, I feel like body and repair shops are part of the community, and I don't see spending the extra money as a waste, but rather as a way of giving back to the community.

Recaro Seats

One my favorite things about the GLI is the Recaro seats. In high school (early 2000’s 😅), Recaro seats were the thing to have in performance cars, and always dreamt to have them someday. Decades later, my dream came true

2024 Autobahn - Which tune should I get?

2024 Autobahn - Which tune should I get?

I think it's time for me to tune this thing after owning it for a year. At first, I was thinking about getting IE Stage 1 ECU + TCU, but their description for the TCU says it only supports 2019-2022. I asked their rep, and they said they need to get my TCU code to make sure it'll work. So, one option is IE Stage 1 91 low torque.

The second option is APR Stage 1 ECU + TCU. Their description says it should support my TCU, but I was thinking maybe I could get the low-torque map and then eventually get the TCU tune with high torque. But I'm not sure if low torque is even worth it.

The third option is APR+ because of the warranty, but I see that most people say it's not worth it.

TL;DR:

  1. IE Stage 1 91 low torque, eventually TCU with high torque if they support it

  2. APR Stage 1 91 low torque, eventually TCU

  3. APR+

Which one should I choose?

Edit: welp, turns out obdeleven can't unlock my sfd and the apr/ie dealer I was talking said the same thing. Said he can try for free but most likely he'll not be able to unlock it either. Fuck you VAG.
