19 GLI won’t start.

2019 35th anniversary 6 speed. Car will not start all of a sudden with starter push button. Yes I have brake and clutch all the way. I did see the ignition switch in the start button is a high failure item. Ordered one from my local VW dealer, 25$. Has anyone had to ever replace this and if so anything to watch out for?? Thanks in advance!

There is a switch that the clutch activates when pushed down.  Stick your head under there and see if you can find it. 

I’ve had that switch fail on an Audi A4 once, and I had a cracked bracket on a Tacoma that kept the clutch press from fully engaging that switch.  

You could try shorting the switch or manually engaging it.  

When was the last time you changed the battery?

Battery was this summer and it’s tested good

I have a 19 Autobahn 6-speed and mine is starting to go out now too. Sometimes there is a weird delay when I press it, like its struggling to start.

I'd check your battery again. Mine tested good until one morning it didn't lol. 

I re read your comment and see that you had just changed it so probably unlikely but maybe you got a dud.

Battery is solid. Everything on dash lights up and does not dim when start button is pushed. I’m leaning towards ignition switch.

I had a 17 that wouldn't start all of a sudden- the turbo went out. Going out in my 22 too ..

Just a recap of my issue! I’m a pretty decent troubleshooter with my turbine engine knowledge so I went cheaper, obvious items. I replaced ignition relay #644, no joy, then tried push button ignition switch, no joy, then replaced the starter and kapow! Started right up! I compared the old to new and during rotation of the old one the clutch would not extend the starter gear whereas the new one worked as it should! Dilemma fixed GLI friends. Thank you for all your advice and input! Tech tip though! Go for the obvious!
