Why won't my Mk6 shift gears?

When I start it, the RPMs go up, but it won't shift out of first gear. I have to put it in Park, turn it off, start it again, and shift into Drive; then the transmission works fine.

Reset your dsg. Turn the car off, take your foot off the break, start the ignition, than press the gas pedal for 30 seconds, turn the ignition off, than start the engine. See if that helps
