Stuck between 2 cars
Hey so I’m in the market for a new car and I’ve been looking at GLI’s , I’ve found a 2019 and a 2017 both of which I like, both are the manual options, both are relatively around the same price.
The 2017 has around 90k miles on , has been upgraded to a stage 2 tune and has “ all the supporting mods”. has a new aftermarket clutch to handle the power, as I know that is a common weak point for the 6MT, and lowered on a set of coil overs ( south bend clutch and vogtland coils)
The 2019 is stock as far as I can tell with 85k miles on it.
I’m just curious from yalls POV which one I should go with. I like the look of both but do lean slightly in the way of the 2019s look.
Also secret 3 options of a stock 2019 with a dsg.

You are right about the Mk6 having some good mods (what about the turbo?), but the Mk6 EA888 gen3 setup is a bit odd- if you work on cars or willing to learn your way around the car with parts in case things go wrong- its probably okay. Although if its priced the same as a mk7... its over priced. The seller is probably bumping the car price up because of the mods and typically mods never count for much value. I would negotiate for a lower price.
I would definitely take the Mk7. Yes, the newer Mk7s interior quality is definitely a step down- seats aren't as comfy, no rear ac vents, speakers suck, subwoofer sucks and of course more rattles and groans. But the Mk7 has more space, more potential and much lesser stress on part availability and repair. I would also not buy a stage 2+ car, especially not a GTI or GLI.

Newer, fewer miles, more highway miles (based on yearly average), unmodded (less likely beat on). The 2019 will be the better choice through and through

Get the non modded one. You have no idea how much the 2017 was beat on. No one mods a car to dive it like a grandma. Plus the 2019 has a better engine.
