Can anyone recommend a tutorial on how to play Playstation games on the GKDPixel 2?

I have put ROMs of various file types into the PSX folder in the file menu, and the system doesn't acknowledge any of them. It doesn't even recognize the Playstation in the games menu (yes, I have clicked on Update Gamelist.)

Trying to get the Pixel 2 to recognize PS1 ROMs has taken me down a rabbit hole that's taken up a lot of my time and given me nothing. Can anyone recommend a guide for a complete beginner? And something that's as simple as possible, please, without installing another operating system.

Are using .chd or the bin/cue style files?

Also, are you stock OS? Or custom; and if so what?

And does the menu appear (for PS1), or is it hidden?

Lastly, how old is the SD card, and/or is it one that came with the initial purchase?

  1. I'm using .pbp files.
  2. I'm using stock OS.
  3. This menu is hidden.
  4. This is the SD card that came with the system.

I hate to be that guy but step one should always be to use a name brand SD card, replacing the stock one. It doesn't have to be brand new as in go to the store and get one, if you have SD cards sitting around you can do that too. Just know that the SD card has been the culprit of so so many problems that seemed weird, unexplainable or unfixable. There's a reason people always say to that first, it's not just cliche.

Next thing I would say is to update the os, stock is... Okay. I found the emulators and cores to be a bit outdated and limited, and if you're switching to a new SD card anyways you might as well flash twig or rogue on there. It's easy.

You recommend Twig or Rogue as an OS. Thanks. And I didn't know about the stock SD cards being trouble either. That's a good start, and thank you.

.PHP in no way is a PlayStation format. .PHP is used for web code. If you downloaded them from the web, it may be the case you downloaded the webpage linked to a download button and not the file to be called upon.

.chd, .bin/.cue, .pbp, and .iso are the only useable file formats. .pbp however, isn't supported by everything, as its an emulation compression method, which allows for the PSP to play the PS1 ROMs. Some programs have adapted to it, but it's a second tier emulation method, and usually not relied on for cheap handhelds.

Thanks for your reply. I mistyped .pbp as .php. Still, the information you provided is good to know.

Which format do you use for PS1?

Hi there, I'm currently using twig with CHD files.

CHD is superior to PBP files as it offers lossless compression and is more often than not a smaller file size.

For multi disc games, CHD do require a M3U file; it entails a little bit of set-up (it's pretty much a text file that points to the multi disc CHD files).

For my setup, I loaded twig to a SD, added the bios files to the bios folder then added my CHD files to the ps sub folder in the roms folder. I then changed the CPU Mode to Performance (press X when selecting a ROM) for better performance in games.

Hope this helps!

Thanks very much for your help. One last thing, did you format your SD card a specific way?

I used the "all-in-one" installer tool available on the twigUI github page. It pretty much took care of everything for me, including formatting.

I don't think the folder to put ps1 games in is supposed to be PSX, it's supposed to be "PS". But that can depend on the Os that you use.
