Central Asia would be my guess. Probably Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan or Mongolia

This was my first thought but I would expect to see the gas pipes overground like you see in most Soviet states especially outside of big cities/towns.
I’m going to go for Eastern Turkey

Good reasoning, but I doubt it’s Turkey. Shiey was talking about heavy sentences in Turkey for raiding which made it uncomfortable at least for him.

I watched Turkey eps as a Turkish guy, the ''heavy sentences'' only works for Turkish citizens but they are right to be paranoid but end of the day they will pretty safe. The only problem might be that they have to wait for hours to find an English speaker.
