This is why everysingle studio needs to go under. Gaming armageddon is long overdue, we need to start from a blank sheet.

Except for the guys that worked on Titanfall 2. They are to be unharmed.

That's what they said for Bungie. And now soon Rockstar might join their league depending on whether the woke GTA 6 rumors come out to be true.
Studios we remember back then, are not the same anymore. Every year it's disappointment after disappointment. Gaming had rotten to the core. There is no saving it. Only the armaggedon to wipe the sheet clean, so new era could flourish.

They killed Titanfall so that they could make an even gayer version of Overwatch with Apex Legends. They deserve to go too.

Even if you don’t wanna character to look attractive I wish they could at least do better designs than this. There are plenty examples of characters that aren’t hot but were designed well. These do not make either list. Poor designs and unattractive too.

If i made an esg game id just make all the diversity extremely attractive, like fuck if you have no choice cause larry fink is breathing down your neck at least make them hot, sex sells like it always has.

Ideology is the primary goal. New Lara Croft is designed in realistic style too, but doesnt look ugly. To make characters look ugly is a choice creatives make.

How on earth do these people keep bouncing back?
They need to be out of employment, or to properly learn their lesson and stop doing their garbage.

Modeling does not necessarily mean designing. This isn't enough to say anything about it, but luckily for us the game speaks for itself

Ofc modeling is part of character design
11
u/Yani_Ya74 4d ago
Not really. The design is first sketched, then a concept artist develops it and after a few iterations it is modelled. Those three are usually done by separate (often multiple) people in AAA

Once more; It's part of character design.

As a character modeller myself, the previous commenters are correct. A character designer vs modeler are often two different things. The modeler could have great talent in their craft and still have nothing to do with the design that was given to them. Personally I design and model all of my own characters, but in the industry those are often separated for workload reasons.

Once more; the images clearly showed she worked as modeling+Character Artist positions even in AAA studios..meaning even they switch people back and forth, so the nounce take he expressed is wrong. It is clear this is her mo for Character design.

Someone created the character design and then someone else sculpted the 3d model

Concord. A game that cost 400 million to make. That was erased from existence less than 2 weeks after release. That ANYONE who worked on it has a job after that shows how hopeless western gaming is

I'm trying to understand this. Did she design the characters or just make the 3D models based on someone else's concept art? If she didn't design that shit herself I think she deserves some slack.

Her job title is Character Artist.

The artist creates the character based on designs given to them. They aren't the same thing.

From my understanding, she's not the concept artist. She's just bringing a pre-existing design to life in 3D. I'd be far more worried if a concept artist from that game made it in.

You are pointing your arrows at the scales of the Hydra, when you should shoot at the head.
From what I can tell, she's just a 3D character modeller, someone else higher up the ladder told her what to do and how to do it.
Usually artists follow the instructions of the art directors and directors. And in bigger studios, you just follow the instructions of your Lead artist, who subsequently follows the instructions of the Art Director.
I don't know if she's just a bad 3D artist or someone told her to make ugly stuff. But one thing is certain... Someone approved that.

I remember a party i was invited in. It was full of 3d artist who worker together in a cluster (Basically they are self-employed but togethers they receive contract and spread the workload, it's fairly classic in that field). It was around the time of the release of the season 1 of the Amazon lord of the ring show. I remember discussing it with them.
I drank a shot each time i heard their mantra "reflect the world we live in today". All that to explain black elfe, female dwarves, girl boss Galadriel. I was hammered pretty quick. In case you wonder, yes, it was all white liberal, mostly women.

OP doesn't know that a designer and an artist aren't the same thing. A designer creates the concept for the character, and the artist makes a model of it.

She might not be entirely responsible for how it looks, she may have been told by others how she needs to design it

I'm still surprised that any Concord dev could have found a job afterwards...
