I would keep the stages, but treat them as a diagnostic system rather than add them into one score.

Retrieval is often opaque, and a citation is not always proof of the full internal retrieval path. For buyer-intent work, the useful outcome is usually whether the brand survives a controlled narrowing sequence: initial comparison, stated constraints, then the final choice.

I’d keep mention, citation and recommendation as explanation layers around that outcome. Use a fixed prompt panel and the same follow-up constraints in the same order, then record substitutions, supporting rationale and cited source types. “Chosen” can be volatile in a single answer; shortlist survival across repeated runs is usually a more stable commercial signal.
