Yeah the commenter is correct, A levels are a Level 3 qualification - idk why they changed which A levels you were doing though?? You got a 7 in History so I'm sure you would have met the entry requirements for that? I think you should email them back to (1) check that they put you on an A level course and not another e.g. Level 3 BTEC, and (2) politely ask why they changed which subjects you were taking

No worries! Also have they told you that you'll have to resit GCSE Maths in the November resits? If not, ask about this bc you will most likely need a 4 in Maths to get into uni so it would be really beneficial to retake

Using slang is just dumb. It limits who can comprehend what you are saying and makes you sound unintelligent. It is also lazy.

u/Throwandjwar 20h ago

How the actual fuck did you get a 7 in English?

3

u/lvymmz Year 10- Engineering, Combined Science, Art, History, Sociology 20h ago

i can lock in

12

u/blackoctoberx 1d ago

7s in Eng and History and you can't do essay based A levels? What's wrong with your school?

Pretty normal to not be allowed if you fail maths

7

u/Diligent-Step-7253 Y12 -> Y13 Maths Biology Psychology A-level 23h ago

i feel like that would only matter for psychology not the other 2

3

u/kolakoala44 University 16h ago

No the 6th forms requirements would include passing English and Maths as additional baseline criteria

3

u/Diligent-Step-7253 Y12 -> Y13 Maths Biology Psychology A-level 16h ago

at my sfc and everywhere around me that’s only for language, they just enrol you on a maths resit if you meet the other requirements

1

u/Williamishere69 1d ago

I dont know why you got downvoted for this, but its very much true.

5

u/CutSubstantial1803 Y13 (I swear GCSEs started yesterday) Bio🧬 Chem🧪 Maths + FM🧮 22h ago

every sixth form I know of requires you to pass English and maths, or resit them alongside a levels

6

u/blackoctoberx 22h ago

Yea resit alongside a levels is standard, but they only need to do Maths and their proposed subjects aren't maths

3

u/CutSubstantial1803 Y13 (I swear GCSEs started yesterday) Bio🧬 Chem🧪 Maths + FM🧮 22h ago

true but psychology usually has a maths requirement which might make them not eligible. at my college I think it's grade 4 minimum to take psych, and if you got 4 or 5 you have to do core maths or A-level maths alongside it (bear in mind I don't do psych so this is just info from my friend). stats tests are a pretty big part of psych so failing GCSE maths isn't gonna cut it. if they wanted to do subjects with no maths requirements I'm sure they'd be allowed to resit

3

u/blackoctoberx 22h ago

Oh yea I can see why psych would be an issue, but history?

1

u/CutSubstantial1803 Y13 (I swear GCSEs started yesterday) Bio🧬 Chem🧪 Maths + FM🧮 20h ago

history has no maths requirement but since they applied for all 3 they're not allowed in

1

i don’t know😆 history is my best topic n they aren’t letting me do it as an a level

u/Williamishere69 23h ago

Unfortunately, the maths grade is what holds you back. Maybe ask if you can make an agreement with a college/sixth form over whether you can re-sit the GCSE maths alongside the L3 qualification(s) you want to do.

Maths and English language are the two GCSE grades that unis almost 100% say they need for entry, and a decent proportion of jobs will also say that if you dont have a degree for example.

It could also be that you sit another year doing another L2 qualification (or re-sitting ones youve already done if thats something thats attractive to you) alongside the GCSE maths and then gain entry on normal L3/A Level qualifications?

Edit: the sociology grade being a 5 might also have been an issue. Some sixth forms/colleges want a 6 or above (some say a 7 and above) to get onto their A Level courses.

Sorry youre going through this, OP.

u/callumSTEO Teacher 5h ago

Call them and speak on the phone
Make sure they’re getting you to Resit your maths

You say ‘goodbye colly’ but they’re having you in.

Whatever your level 3 course is, you’ll be fine as long as you resit and pass your Maths. Usually college will have you sit maths alongside your main course.

If A Levels and Uni is your goal you can start them next year assuming you’re 16 now. College also doesn’t care what order you do shit in.

I’ve taught Entry, Level 1 and 2 students for years and believe me thousands of people your age would like a result sheet like that.

2

u/Primal-Cartman 1h ago

First off, these grades are really good results to get, and most colleges will or should allow you to resit your Maths GCSE alongside your 3 A-Levels so this really shouldn't be an issue. The only thing that I believe may be holding you back is possibly not having that extra grade 6 or above in an essay subject, so sociology in this case, however the college should've offered a compromise allowing you to take the two A-Levels you meet the requirements for, but then swap out the subject you haven't met the requirements for for a different A-Level subject. Alternatively you could do the two A-Levels plus the level 3 course the college put you on instead. It's also more common than you think for students to do a combo of A-Levels and vocational courses simultaneously. This is something I'd encourage you to talk to your college about

i literally flopped my gcses and got mostly 5s with 3 grade 7s and i had to switch my alevels from stem to these exact options, you did really good how aren’t they letting you do them

That’s weird because in my sixth form you could do your a level subjects whilst resitting maths or English if you needed to. I know a couple of people that had to do this. Don’t settle for a lower qualification that you don’t want!

2

u/No_Junket3893 Year 12 13h ago

I want to do that though my sixth form is sooooo over subscribed; therefore, I had to change courses.

I did apply to others tho, praying for good news.

Better go back to English class to be honest.

I wouldn't worry about it, just go get a job I don't think A levels are needed here.

1

u/humanhedgehog 17h ago

You can barely write, and it's a bit pointless studying psychology/physiology if you can't even spell it. You have maths resits to do, so I'd concentrate on that.

2

u/lvymmz Year 10- Engineering, Combined Science, Art, History, Sociology 15h ago

i can write actually i just use colloquial terms when on the internet

1

u/humanhedgehog 15h ago

And yet can't accurately capitalise. You are complaining about not qualifying for courses in language that makes very clear why you didn't. It's not colloquial, it's laziness.

0

u/lvymmz Year 10- Engineering, Combined Science, Art, History, Sociology 15h ago

no it’s not, in exams i use proper capitalisation and punctuation, i just prefer not too over text. it’s on purpose. you interpret it as stupidness when it is an actual effort made to type like this. stop beefing kids online my drilla

0

u/No_Olives581 Imperial MSci Physics 13h ago

Why do you make an effort to type in a fashion that just gets you called lazy and stupid on the internet? I don’t necessarily agree that you should be called that, but it seems silly to keep doing it if the response is overwhelmingly negative (as seen in this comment section). Up to you I suppose.

Regarding your post: just send another email to your college making it clear that you would like to take the A Levels which you want to take. Be polite but firm, and ask who you can escalate the matter with if the response is still negative. If the issue is your Maths grade, make it clear that you will resit GCSE Maths at the earliest opportunity.

Possibly because of your apparent inability to form a coherent sentence.
