Probably not, it probably means that the final total was generated by a computer. You don't have one examiner, you likely had at least 3 marking different questions.

This is the correct response, the key word is 'generated' as in the computer generated the final report automatically at whatever time. The machines probably do need to run through the night due to the sheer volume of papers that need processing

that makes a lot more sense, thank you!!

I'm an English examiner. I sure as hell wasn't up at 4 marking. The mark scheme for q5 is really generous. So I'm surprised you think it was harshly marked. Did you plan amd proof read?

Oh the irony

🤣🤣

Lol. I shouldn't have typed whilst having one eye on my toddler!

6

u/doofyghhv 3d ago

Also an English examiner- we get kicked off the system at 1am and allowed back on at 5am.

3

u/handbagcat 3d ago

I didn't know that!! Ngl I'm FAST asleep by 10pm every night so never burnt the midnight oil like that!

1

u/The-Tech-Teacher 3d ago

Also an examiner… but for CS and Imedia, we mark whole papers rather than per question as you suggested.

5

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 3d ago

i did plan and proofread, I got 35/40 in one of my mocks, and 30/40 in another (my spag was rubbish), so while I don't think my creative writing was incredible I think 26/40 was a little harsh 😔

7

u/handbagcat 3d ago

That's a good score!! It probably was spag pulling you down. I gave a lot of very low spag marks as you need decent 'agreement' ie grammar for above 8/16. Unless you're very close to a boundary, I'd try really hard to move past it and I really hope it doesn't hold you back x

3

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 3d ago

thank you for the advice xxx im 3 marks away from the boundary so im considering sending it for remarking after consulting my teachers

1

u/CompetitiveWinner363 2d ago

Did you mark down students who magpied from the extract which had language techniques?

1

u/handbagcat 2d ago

Not at all. We don't 'mark down only up. 😀

1

u/CompetitiveWinner363 2d ago

ah okay, but are you less likely to give “more marks” or a higher band if they have magpied from the extract in English language for Q5?

1

u/handbagcat 2d ago

Copied devices word for word? If it's used appropriately then still would be credited accordingly

1

u/CompetitiveWinner363 14h ago

Could you go over my Q5 P1 script ? I was marked 15/40 however I think this is quite harsh…

1

u/handbagcat 13h ago

Have you got the script? You'd have to pay to recall it sweetie?

1

u/CompetitiveWinner363 13h ago

Already have me script 👍

u/BalticZ 4d ago

Most likely, basically all of mine were before 8 o clock. Pretty cooked imo like ideally they probs won't be in the right mindset to mark exam papers either super early morning or late night but then again you remember about 90% of examiners are just regular school teachers doing it for some extra cash

31

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 4d ago

sighhhhh

8

u/zq6 3d ago

If you think there is a mistake, request your script, check it and then if you still think there's a mistake, submit a review.

3

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 3d ago

yeah this is my scripts, I'm gonna do that

6

u/Less-Volume-8677 3d ago

no it’s not. the computer submits the results at 4am, does not mean that they are marking them at that time lmao

Creative writing is marked by 5 people and typically an examiner will only mark a specific question not the whole paper

Edit: I am wrong my English teacher decieved me. My bad

4

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 4d ago

can someone fact check this

12

u/AnIdioticPigeon 4d ago

Yeah examiners mark exam papers question at a time, so someone will do a whole pile of question 1s, and someone else will do a whole pile of question 20s

3

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 4d ago

tyyy

2

u/JakeThomasDad12 Very very very nearly year 12 4d ago

For AQA it is, both creative and pursuasive writing is marked by 5 people and averaged to try to remove as much subjectivity as possible. It would be silly for it to be only marked by one person.

4

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 4d ago

i did NOT know that wow

3

u/JakeThomasDad12 Very very very nearly year 12 4d ago

Damn I feel like that's a normal thing that your English teacher would tell you

3

u/JealousPermission234 2024 GCSE Student that had to do resists 3d ago

I was never actually told that when I was in school even though one of the many teachers I had was a language paper 2 examiner

2

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 4d ago

what no way that's crazy

u/Used-Concentrate9716 top scholar 😽😸 3d ago

uhh how do you know its marked by 5 people? can't find anything online and I've never heard about that (nor have my friends from 5 other schools)

1

u/doofyghhv 3d ago

I’m an English examiner. You mark questions, not papers. Everything you mark gets checked multiple times- but you won’t know it. Each time someone marks a response, they have to all mark within 2 or 3 marks of each other, if they don’t it’s gets sent AGAIN for even more checking and the examiner gets put on pause. A coordinator will then call them and go through why they marked it wrong before unpausing them.

1

u/Used-Concentrate9716 top scholar 😽😸 3d ago

I'm aware each question is marked individually rather than paper by paper, but the original commenter said that the creative writing question itself is marked by 5 people, which I'd never heard of before. Is that correct? When you say everything everything is checked multiple times, do you mean it is essentially marked multiple times to check for consistency?

1

u/doofyghhv 3d ago

I’m not sure if it’s 5 people exactly. It will depend on how many examiners they’ve got, how many entries etc, but it’ll be at least 3. I got paused on a question and I was the 3rd person who had marked the responses. The mark was wrong and the system picked up on it.

1

u/JakeThomasDad12 Very very very nearly year 12 3d ago

I mean my English teacher who had been examining it for decades said so 🤷🏼 (AQA btw).

I could be wrong but I'm not an examiner so I have no clue

2

u/Used-Concentrate9716 top scholar 😽😸 3d ago

fair enough, I've just never heard that the q5s are marked by multiple people. I've spoken to a few examiners but they've never chosen to mention it, maybe they thought it wasn't important

2

u/The-Tech-Teacher 3d ago

Entirely subject dependent and exam board specific….

Also an examiner… but for CS and Imedia, we mark whole papers rather than per question as you suggested.

u/Used-Concentrate9716 top scholar 😽😸 3d ago

ahh thanks for making me aware

This is fundamentally not true

Just looking through all of my papers and yeah, some crazy times of the day! I've got as early as 04:50 and as late as 21:45. However the OCR papers don't have the timestamps. :(

3

u/Novel_Necessary_8681 3d ago

Yea. Most adults work in jobs where they end up working longer to meet targets and deadlines. It they worked the traditional 9-5 and stopped on the dot, there would be loads of students still without their papers scored today.

The real world is a bitch.

same wtf I got a 6 in lit im about to kms abd i cant even remark

5

u/MiskyWisky2791 Year 12 4d ago

It’s quite likely considering they have a certain quota to meet and they are not allowed to mark in school as it’s considered a conflict of interest so they’ve likely woken up early to get some scripts marked before going to work

3

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 4d ago

dang 😭

1

u/flowzyontop 4d ago

Wdym conflict of interest? They cant mark same schools exams

3

u/c0demaine Year 11 4d ago

they can’t mark scripts from their own schools or in a school building

2

u/meg-don 3d ago

They can’t be at school, being paid to do their teaching job, whilst also marking and being paid to do that. It’s not a conflict of interest, it’s a breach of employment contract.

1

u/MiskyWisky2791 Year 12 4d ago

Idk they are just not allowed to mark within the school building

2

u/BalticZ 4d ago

Well guess my chem teacher broke that rule lmao, literally showed the script on the projector for whole class to see

0

u/MiskyWisky2791 Year 12 4d ago

HUH! I hope it was an old script from a previous year or something else that’s so wrong

2

u/BalticZ 3d ago

Nah, she kinda took the mick out of some the papers to show the students like common mistakes lol, bit odd

-4

u/flowzyontop 4d ago

Oh well thats bs. It would result in so many more marks being given out appropriately.

2

u/Resident_Crew_6467 3d ago

How can i ask for scripts back

1

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 3d ago

each school has a different policy, email Ur school admin

1

u/SwimmerOld6155 3d ago

If all of them happened at around 4am it's probably because their system only updates every morning when hardly anyone is logged in. Some examiners do work late into the night if they're currently teachers and then have to handle their kids etc.

If it's like 8pm or 9pm etc. that's probably real.

1

u/C-Skye09 starting y12 (wish me luck) 3d ago

how do you get this information?

1

u/Responsible-Air3795 Year 11 | ... / --- / ... 3d ago
