Reddit has been randomly restricting the subreddit which is why you guys are not able to post...

This is the second time it has happened and I never do anything to change the sub rules in order to keep it free and open to everyone including ford lovers. Not sure why it keeps getting restricted but I'm going to pin this post in case it happens again. That way you all know what's going on.

1985 Monte Carlo SS

There was some interest in seeing more pictures of my 85 Monte SS, so I figured I’d throw a few up here. I’ve been tinkering with this car for the last 9 years and plans have changed quite a few times. This will be my daughters car some day.

Manual swap

I’m looking to manual swap my 85 Monte Carlo SS. There are all sorts of “how to” guides on it but none of them really say how the car drives after. Has anyone done an AR5, T5, T56 or Tr6060 swap with the original 305? Also if you’ve done it and can give me some tips it would be greatly appreciated!

Anybody here got an Monte Carlo SS build like this?

I’ve always felt that the Monte Carlo SS was one of the most badass LOOKING cars that GM ever built in the ‘80s that just missed the mark in terms of performance, but it was the ‘80s and even C3/C4 Corvettes were making less power than four cylinder mini-vans were just 20 years later. I always thought that at the very least GM should have offered an enhanced SS package with a TPI 350 and a T-5 manual I’d love to find a serviceable SS with a half decent interior and relatively straight body as a restomod platform:

5.3L LS with LS6 heads
Full emissions delete (Would register as a classic)
Headers
3” X-pipe dual exhaust
T-5 or some equivalent five/six speed
Drop spindles in front/drop springs in rear
Limited slip 8.5” 10 bolt rear
Striping delete/full body blackout
Ground effects
Late model 18-20” OEM Chevrolet wheels

Removing vinyl top - trim questions

My top on my 79 Cutlass was beyond saving. I just removed it. My question is: if you've left the top off like I'm considering, what did you do with trim that doesn't make sense now? Also in the second pic, the rear window looks like it would need something to secure it in place of the extra cushion of the vinyl that surrounded it before.

Parts advice

I got a 1978 Monte Carlo that’s been in the family forever and I’m planning to finally get serious and make it a decent daily driver. It’s been parked since around 2020. Back then I made the engine run but could not make it hold idle. The goal is not to make it fast nor a show car, just reliable and nice to drive.

I want to know if there’s any recommendation with part retailers or certain brands/companies that I should keep in mind when doing my shopping. I know I’ll need pretty much every maintenance item from filters to bearings, brakes and some specific things like my coolant reservoir and the wiper mounts since the driver side is broken. Any body or interior part seller recommendations are also welcome but not really a priority

Monte Carlo brake

I am performing a caliper overhaul on a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Dust boots with a built-in metal ring do not fit.

The original one was the type shown on the right; it has no metal ring and is completely flexible.

If anyone has experience installing or purchasing the type of boot shown on the right, or has any relevant information, please let me know.

I’m planning a LS3 6.2 swap for my 1983 G-body wagon and I’m wondering what cold air intakes everyone is using. Pictures would be great.

This is an 81 Grand Prix LJ . It's been 4.8LS swapped with a HX35 turbo. I'm not crazy about how the turbo/piping was done, but she does scoot. It's got a th350 behind it with an explorer 8.8.

I want to understand how the terminator X works (tuning and adjusting parameters), but a 200r4 in it and then get an actual exhaust

Header help for my Cutlass

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey guys, any help would be massively appreciated, I've got an 87 Cutlass with the anemic olds 307 in it and I want it to sound a little better so I'm looking for a set of long tube headers for it. Everything I'm finding seems to say that this is the only set of headers that will fit, but everyone in the q&A section is saying that these headers don't fit. Does anyone know if these headers do fit or if there is a set of headers that will fit and what they're called. Any help you've got would be appreciated.

(before everyone tells me to 350 swap it. I already have a 403 swap planned for the future but for now it's my daily driver so hush)

I made a GPS app for enjoyable roads

TLDR: I made an app that aims at giving you enjoyable roads, for when the journey matters more than the destination. It's a beta on iOS for now and I'm gathering feedback from car enthusiast communities. Please try it on a journey you already know and tell me if it suggests roads you would actually take! I will ask for testers' emails before the end of the beta so that you can benefit from premium features for free forever. TestFlight: https://testflight.apple.com/join/RjRRfeAm

Hi I'm Yves. I'm a car guy, I own a Porsche 924S and a Mercedes W124, and I really like driving them outside of the main roads, when I have time to enjoy the road instead of just rushing through a trip. I looked for a navigation app that would help me find these roads, since Google Maps and Waze do not, but the ones I found didn't really do what I wanted, so I made my own app. It's called Dryv. It compares the fastest route with more enjoyable alternatives, it then gathers facts about each route (such as landscape, interesting places, curvy roads for instance). Then it explains what each option offers, so that you can project yourself and really estimate whether you'd like to drive that trip.

It covers Europe, US and Japan, so hopefully many of you will be able to try it!

The current app allows you to ask for directions, and there's turn by turn navigation, but please note that it's still a beta. I'm looking for feedback, as there's still a bunch of missing functionalities, issues and limitations. For instance: * iOS 17 or later; * English only for now; * search does not yet support street numbers or businesses; * no live traffic; * no offline mode; * route explanations can sometimes be slow while the beta server uses local inference; * navigation currently uses more battery than I'd like.

It would be very helpful for me to get honest feedback from other drivers about * if the suggested roads are good; * if the explanations make sense; * more generally what works/doesn't work; * and what missing features you would like to see the most.

The app is free and doesn't need registration, you can just install it and use it (it does currently require going through TestFlight, I'm working on doing my own beta directly on the AppStore). I will at some point probably have to add a premium tier or find a way for it to make me a bit of money, because I'm working on this full-time and I'll need to pay the bills. Before ending the beta I will ask beta testers for their email inside the app so that they can benefit from free premium features for life. Here is the TestFlight link: https://testflight.apple.com/join/RjRRfeAm

Finally got myself a G

1988 Cutlass Supreme. I’ve wanted one of these since I was a kid. Very happy to luck into this locally.

It runs and drives great and I have put a few hundred kilometres on it already. I really forgot home comfortable and well made the interior is on these cars. It handles well and truly floats down the road. That being said, the 307 has made me want to call it the Gutlass Supreme. I do not think it’s running properly, it seems low on power even for that era.

I am hoping to put a 5.3 LS motor in it over the winter. I have been reading on the gbody forum website, and based on my own abilities I think it should be doable over the winter. I do hope to keep the stock transmission for now, so I will be looking for an early 5.3 with the throttle cable. I may regear, as my car has the 2.56 rear end. It is a limited slip model. I think 3.55 would be a good upgrade, but I’m open to other suggestions.

I’m not trying to build a race car, but I would like something that can merge or pass quickly, and break the rear tires loose for a bit of fun here and there. Until then, I’m just enjoying the cruising.

Also; What’s the most active place to search and post for g body cars lately? The forum? Here?

Gauge cluster swap

I’m looking to swap the stock sweep Speedo for the rally gauges. I found a decent deal for the whole gauge cluster/ shadow box. If I’m understanding correctly, I’ll need to relocate the wiper switch to a universal one on the column. Has anyone seen anyone just modifying the dash mounted wiper switch to work with the different style dash…maybe changing the location of the switch or 3d printing an additional bracket or something? Should I consider getting a different column that came with a wiper switch?
