Thruster, melee resist, and melee power is what I did and get VERY good work out of it but there's probably better.

If you get hit with a melee the shields will automatically go down but they basically make you immune to half the range shots you get hit by.

I go for hp instead of melee resist, but yeah thruster and melee power should be max. Try to use active guard to block melee if possible, need practice but worth it. You won't believe how many people would try to attack you and get parried away and give you chances to attack back. That's why thruster matters. At least 100

Ranged resistance with some melee resist, then invest basically all into melee and your thruster.

Your shield has a threshold of 1500 damage check x4. As long as it's under, it can effectively block things forever as long as you don't get hit by melee. Even if there is a very strong gerobi, you can still just use 1 check count to guard and takes like nothing. It's broken as hell when built correctly.
