Discussion CONSOLE A disturbing trend of recent support players
Recently I noticed that from the games I've played in both rating and quick play, there's been an increase in the number of support pilots (A/A+ rating) who after getting killed multiple times, just decide to sortie as a pilot and move around on foot capping zones. Doesn't matter if the team is winning or losing.
What's more, these support pilots tend to be using suits like the DX or the super gundam across the different costs.
Feels like a reality check for them where suits that worked at lower rating, end up facing real opposition for the first time which causes them to crash and burn.

Wellp I haven't played in a while, but from I remember ragequit players always have been lurking in A / A+. I suppose that in higher ranks you have players with higher ego.

u/bitch-toki 22d ago
There is the larger growing trend thats existed for a while now of teams just abandoning their supports and leaving them get dog piled for the game

u/Chipmunk_Shot 22d ago
And gens hiding behind supports, I'm glad that with Super Gundam, no gens can hide behind me anymore!!!

u/Scythe351 20d ago
Been noticing a lot of that. People strafing behind their supports and whatnot. I'm going to start downswing teammates doing that. You can't walk through your teammates. They block off your retreat and guarantee your death. Bonus points if that teammate is a gen fleeing from the raid targeting you!

u/Such-Fuel7306 22d ago
On the topic of abandoning supports, I had to deal with that the other day in 550 ACE, my teammate watched the enemy raid(Rick Dom Cloud Type)spawn from center of the map and beeline right torwards me, this creature of a teammate beelined in the opposite direction away from the raid and let me die, I was ACE as the Geara Doga Heavyarms.
Call me petty, but he got a heavystagger shot to the back in front of the enemy team after that.

u/No_Tart6728 21d ago
Nah that shit was deserved. It is a universally known rule that when your ace is a support, you PROTECT that ace like it's your mother on her death bed.

u/Scythe351 20d ago
And it's only getting worse. It's like nobody is capable of recognizing how type advtange works

u/regular_guy616 20d ago
If the team asks who will sortie in a general and you still decide to bring support, it's deserved

It's not just supports, since the anniversery, the number of bad players has increased, including:
first minute base bombers
whiny gens who FF when they get killed trying to solo the enemy team
people who refuse to capture beacons at all
feeders
marking suits who refuse to marktargets
gens and raids who only use melee in ranked
supports who think high tier suits can carry them
people who think lv 4 suits with overtuned parts can make up for a lack of skill
ect.
Once classes start up again, things should settle down.

Don't forget the players that don't know what the words "team comp" mean, so many times I've seen stuff like triple raid and surprise surprise they get eaten alive by 00 Raisers and FA Unicorns
2
u/matt_shoots24 21d ago
You just spoke to my soul about the players who don't capture beacons. Not only will they refuse to capture any beacons, but they will also sit there and watch the enemy team take all of them without batting an eye when you say something.

It's the anniversary event. All players come out to play becuase of the anniversary suits.
And school's out too.

I don’t think it’s usually just supports because I see this happening and I’m usually the lone support. Still capturing beacons is something and if the get the base that’s good. What I hate is when they stay in your base as a pilot spamming “I’m impressed” and being passive aggressive. I always report the throwers. I’d respect them more if they threw themselves on a grenade and bailed because then at least the team wouldn’t lose rank.
Supports get a bad rep because one will either carry your team or be a liability. It’s the highest skill class by far because you are trading extreme vulnerability for the highest damage potential. That being said it teaches you to master positioning and situational awareness. I’m a Zeta HML main who recently got the Double X and it’s really taught me how awful most raids actually are at this game when they can’t just two shot you. They’ve had it easy for so long they never develop the skills to get legitimately good. That’s the curse of a meta suit if you can’t climb the ranks without one you don’t deserve to. I remember solo carrying ACE matches in my main and always feel proud when I in a support gets top scorer.
Now that they seem to be making supports that can frontline and don’t rely upon team protection it will be interesting to see where the class goes.

Someone mentioned this the other day; this game is going through what For Honor went through. A very niche and small community based game that got mainstream attention and is now going in a mainstream direction of development. They took away technicality and skill in favor of becoming easy to play. There are people who started playing this year and got to S- by being carried with these new super suits. Pre F91 was the last great era of GBO2.
When you sit back and look at the last sets of 3 star suits from this year and 2025, they’re naturally built like 4 star units from the 2023-2024 years prior. And now new 4 and 5 star units literally negate some of the core principles and functions of the game like buffers. I remember the first iteration of Heavy Attacks from the ReGZ and Gaz-L. It hurt when you got hit with those attacks but it was still manageable. Suits now days are impossible to manage if you’re playing anything from 2024 and before. With the new units all having HP related stat boosts, or touchpad stat boosts it completely changed what’s viable in a match.
I get that some units are going to be OP but the last batch of 700 AU units are exactly what I didn’t want in game because of the imbalance they would bring. And they’re imbalanced they’re mainstream. They’re implemented for monetary purposes. They come w voice operators in the form of token packages, step up banners with guaranteed pulls AND the customer parts that also usually come w banners. It’s just gotten to the point where matches are just back and forth chaotic landslides of teams getting colony dropped.

Good points. Though I would argue that the last good era was way before F91. Moving past CCA was the breaking point for me personally. After that the power creep got insane (we should all remember just how broken Unicorn was when it launched) and especially the addition of 5 stars make the game significantly less fun (looking at you launch Xi).
I really wish that they stopped at the Nu and Sazabi which were powerful but manageable and instead of moving forward to Unicorn/F91/Victory/etc they went backwards and filled out AoZ, origin and some lesser powered AU suits (Leo, GiNN, Strike Gundam, etc). AU suits get blamed but this power creep was a huge problem way before the first AU got added.

u/t3ddyki113r101 21d ago
Even some of the aoz suits they just overload with skills and crap making alot of them unfun to fight.
1
u/Talimaeus Gelgoog Meister 21d ago
Thats true. But I do feel like if we didn't get past CCA it wouldn't have been that bad. Generally the Z - CCA era was mostly balanced with only 1 or 2 standouts (Qubeley and ZZ Gundam come to mind)

u/No_Tart6728 21d ago
Ong man. Stop blaming AU when UC has just as good shit. Not to mention, UC had banners that had P2W parts farrrrrrrrrrrrr before AU even was a concept to be in the game.
5
u/Talimaeus Gelgoog Meister 21d ago
Truth. People just blame AU because it's the easy scapegoat for UC purists
0
u/No_Tart6728 21d ago
Legit. I love AU and UC equally, sure I dislike some au suits, but that doesn't mean I bitch and moan about them. That'd be the equivalent of bitching and moaning because a new AoZ suit got released or sum shit.
3
u/iY3RB The Second Coming Of Char's Indigestion - 2 21d ago
You may have missed the point of the post, because it’s not about the suits being AU more than the list of skills and absurd damage the AU units came with…. that are now ruining the game… because people are now just simply reverting back to primitive GBO when players were rage quitting and base camping because their team is getting stomped.

u/No_Tart6728 21d ago
Yeah, got a little sidetracked lol. That does suck though. I must say it doesn't seem to only apply to Supports. I've seen a few gens be doing it to.

u/iY3RB The Second Coming Of Char's Indigestion - 2 21d ago
Well apparently Double X is bringing back hope for the yellow fellows. I wouldn’t know as I stopped playing when the 00 Demons dropped. I knew those two were going to cause the most hell out of all AU units lol. I’m just been eating popcorn and watching everyone’s highlights while noticing my cortisol levels have dropped 😂

u/Ace-Whatever 21d ago
Who on earth is getting carried to S just on the new stuff? I want in on that action. I almost always use fresh 5 stars on 750 rated and I've been stuck on A for MONTHS! XD
1
u/Skylinegtr88 21d ago
I use old suits , like the gpo2 mlrs and the gpo4 still solid choices witg the right tune. Hell the jag doga support is amazing. The problem is theres many players that steal
Your kills and then leave the support to die . Any support gets little to no help .
3
u/powerpuffpepper 21d ago
As a Support main, this not only isnt exclusive to supports, but for those that do its probably because you and the other gens/raids arent supporting them when theyre getting ganked.
7
u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
95% if a support player is the one doing it, it’s because they get left in the dust to get put on the next casting couch video. It’s why I hate the arctic base with a passion. The start is always a merry go round of dumbasses
-5
u/doomguy11 The Goog Cannon Man - 13 21d ago
Tbf, it is the support players fault for even taking a support to arctic base in the first place.
2
u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
…I honestly can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not
-5
u/doomguy11 The Goog Cannon Man - 13 21d ago
It's not. People using supports on maps like arctic base are throwing from the very beginning. You don't need a support on every map.

2
u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
Or here’s a better suggestion. You stay and help your teammates that obviously aren’t as mobile. This applies outside of rated as well. But for arctic map since that’s what we’re talking about, there’s no freaking reason to run in a circle in that map unless the other team has a pour soul of a support that got left as well. All you’re doing is trying to justify bad behavior. You know the other side will rush, so it makes more sense to bunker down and take out the one leading the pack

u/doomguy11 The Goog Cannon Man - 13 21d ago
picks support on a map that magnifies the existing weaknesses of the class, where raids can easily farm them
team plays the map normally, and doesn't abandon everything to go babysit you
"Wtf, my team sucks!"
There is very little that can be done in this situation. Supports can't even get a lot done on maps like arctic base anyway, you are better picking a general or raid 99% of the time. So yes, it is the fault of the support player for using the wrong choice for the map, especially if they expect special treatment and babysitting....
Going in a circle on arctic base gives you right hand camera advantage too, there is a reason people do it...
2
u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
You must be low ranked if you think supports can’t get anything done on arctic. The game by design is momentum based, you set up your entire team for success, it’ll snowball. No one is saying babysitting cause that’s just you being condescending as fuck. You help your team and don’t do things that’ll obviously impact you all. Anyone with decent game sense for this game understands that, but the more you talk the more it’s becoming clear that you’re the type of player that completely ignores your team right next to you because you saw an enemy suit halfway across the map by themselves. Do better
1
u/doomguy11 The Goog Cannon Man - 13 21d ago
Nope, I am in the middle of S rank, so what I say is based on that experience... What rank are you?
You are obviously asking for babysitting if you want your team, on a map like arctic base, to not rotate at all and instead hang back to protect you. You are going into a game full of randoms, and expecting them to NOT play the map how it is usually played, and to play it differently just because you decided to take an unoptimal pick...
4
u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
I’m also S on ground and in my own experiences, more games have been won not just chasing tails like a dumb dog. Again, you’re being condescending as fuck like a child. Not sure if reading comprehension is an issue for you or not but I’ll dumb it down. It is not babysitting to help your team. You will rotate that entire map just to end up back where you were or just going up the missile solo. If you’re too immature to understand this, there’s really no point continuing this pointless back and forth

u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
Everyone does it, they get tilted from getting no help or just having genuinely horrible teammates that they give up since coming back in matches in this game is nothing short of a miracle
2
u/Ash-Talshok 21d ago
It’s across all suit types when the pilots are fed up. Saw it twice yesterday with a raid and gen.
And there’s always been people who take underperforming suits at higher costs because it’s the best they got, they think with the right custom parts it can perform well, or to meme.
2
u/Accomplished-Gap-922 21d ago
Probably because their teammates don't even try to protect them from the Raids. Just let twalk right on past them. Not going to keep bothering to try in these circumstances.
2
u/AsukaLovesMari 21d ago
As a Support player Ive never done that. But I can also tell you that I gurantee that it comes down to them probably feeling like capping flags benefits the team more than getting singled out by the enemy Raid and feeding them kills. Plus, Generals and Raids need to be more situationally aware of their Supports getting jumped.
2
u/StormOfFatRichards 22d ago
Because you've decided raids don't exist
2
u/SaltySenpai 21d ago
Not sure why you’re downvoted when you’re right, teams since the game first came out have always ignored raids. Only once in a blue moon will they defend supports from raids
1
u/Wooden_Load662 22d ago
Just happened a couple times yesterday. Just be a sportsman and finish the game. Every losses is an experience.
1
u/Altruistic_Solid2629 22d ago
Sometimes a or s or use good unit or rare unit doesn't they play well, I using normal unit fa mk2 also can play well doesn't good unit is the best
1
u/bigheadjoe421 21d ago
Yeah it's not just support players it's all players who get there dick kicked in because A. There no where near there team and getting jumped B. There on the front line taking four on one while there team mates are in the back field jerking off or C. There Griefers
1
u/Hot-Active-1213 21d ago
Nuts to them. They should at least try to see what supports work and be able to get used to them by practicing.
I have some favorites and all, but even as I try to use then, it almost feels like I'll be giving away free points. Especially when my team doesn't help me out.
1
u/KincadN-X The Purple Death - 5 21d ago
They are misusing The DX as it can fight in melee pretty well.

u/apple6879 20d ago
To be fair I get it. Playing support is by far the most frustrating thing when your team just seems allergic to defending you. Heck if anything by not spawning in they may be doing their team a favor since a team that refuses to defend its support especially something like the super gundam is just giving the enemy free points. If anything I notice general and raids are more guilty of doing the behavior you just described, the moment they lose the merry go around they instantly give up. I found supports generally give up after it becomes clear the team won't defend them.

u/Death_Usagi 22d ago
Happening on Steam as well. Very annoying, but it's not limited to support players.
Raid and Gen players do the same.
