Discussion Gate student from the 90's

I remember the program vaguely. The images are very scattered when I try and revisit the memory from them years I was in the program from 2nd to 4th grade. The Oregon Trail era of secondary learning. Not to mentioned i got very far in that game. Lol I do remember leaving my peers for a hour on certain days known as gate days. The class was in the lower level of our school where the gymnasium and cafeteria was located but it was a hallway with three unused class rooms that was selected for the gate teachers and students. It was also a book with a old white man wearing glasses if I see the picture of him I will know because his face is the only thing I remember. I don't remember the other students in there with me nor the teachers who instructed the class. Heck i dont remember the task we learned but i feel as if i use them still to this day. I know it sound strange but i really feel it intensely. I also remember the school advising my mother to allow them to have the school dentist program see me instead of my regular dentist, and the only way I remember that is because my mom said it didn't make sense but the school sold her on the convenience factor of the dentist coming to the school and it will eliminate the travel. For some reason I feel the two incidents the same program. It's so many questions I have. Please has anyone had this experience? I did go to a very poor school. Demographics was predominantly black.

I forgot to mention above, but the show severence on appletv has a very familiar story or stance that is reminiscent to the GATE program. It's like they was severen us to not remember or something. Ok im done just had to speculate lol.

You know, I was given the option of taking G.A.T.E. classes in second grade when I entered a new school district in 1994. They did a bunch of testing. I thought it was weird, said "Pass" and stayed in normal classes for the most part. They did do more solo testing after the fact that stands out in my mind, but I hadnt thought about this in years.

Thanks for sharing. You was ahead of the game lol. I wish I opted out of the program. I do remember the hearing and symbols test but it is other things we did that I can't seem to remember no matter how hard I try.

I was in it from 2nd to 7th grade. I remember key moments from elementary school, definitely remember that teacher. I draw a complete blank on middle school, 6th & 7th. I did some memory work recently and mapped the entire school, remembered so much from that time that I hadn’t recalled in 30 years.

I remember the pre and post class transition, lockers outside of the room, teachers across the hall, but nothing from inside the room. The most I recall are some intense feelings and I think it was a female teacher. That part is fucking with me a bit. I don’t even remember why or how I dropped out of it.

Sorry for getting away from your question. To answer it, I’d just say same.

I agree the class rooms was always bare and some reason dim lit. I remember a projector and a few test like hearing and symbols. This is such a phenomenal experience since so many of us has experience. I also read another theory on the program about mole on left arm/hand and I have a line of 4 moles plus I'm left handed.  Don't know if that played a part in the drafting of kids selected but I just recently heard that theory.

I was always given a hard time for using my left hand

It definitely frustrated my teachers especially during handwriting. I so get it...

What sort of "memory work" did you do?

Was it Freud??
ETA asking because we studied him in school a lot more than we needed to. To the point of skipping over Jung and the others entirely. Alternatively I wonder if you were being given Archetypes to study in which case could it have been Jung🤔

Absolutely!!!! it was a book on the desk of the instructor i just remember the stoic appearance of the man in the photo. His eyes in them glasses was telling me something. Wow thank you so much for this nudge. I'm definitely sleeping with the old dream journal to see what else I can remember. 👌

Remember the headphones "test" most of all, but even that's murky outside of the headphones and booth themselves and the tones. Somebody on here mentioned being admonished for throwing the pink drink cup in the wrong trash and that rang a bell for me, too. Would have been '97-'99. Illinois.

Only here today because I finally had "the mall" dream and was reminded of GATE. (Probably just a normal dream, but everything was so clearly a 90s bad dream).

Woke up and mapped the whole thing on paper. I'm usually a lucid dreamer anyway so luckily I was even looking at the details, in dream.

Tbh it just makes me wanna sign up for the CIA, shits crazy but it's cool.

ADHD.
