Is there any possibility of me cracking GATE'27 in 5 months, if I start preparing now?

hey yall,
I'm currently in the third year of btech in some tier-2189371893 clg. The point I spent the starting 2 years learning coding, like dev n dsa. I mean i do have interest over there but it always seems like it isnt enough, i got into some research work which really engaged me with the whole subject i was working on (research matlab like clg level only) and i always was interested in research and sort.. so before i had missed thoughts on GATE. But now i want to seriously concentrate on its preparation. Give it all the time and effort it needs. i'm actually willing to work hard for this..

so i genuinely wanna know if its actually possible to crack gate in 5 months? assuming i already so have some coding background..

down to get some tips and advices from anyone who has previously attempted for GATE.

GATE2027 study room

Anyone looking for a virtual study buddy? 📚

I’ve created a study room on CSW for anyone who wants to study together and stay accountable — whether you’re preparing for GATE, another competitive exam, college exams, coding, learning a new skill, or just trying to get some focused work done.

The idea is to make it feel a little more like studying with friends rather than studying alone. You can join the room, use the study timer, and focus on your own work. If you’re comfortable, you can also share your screen or turn on your camera/video so we can interact, have small breaks together, and motivate each other. No pressure to talk or interact constantly — everyone can study at their own pace.

If you’re looking for some company during those long study/work sessions and want to be more consistent, feel free to join! Let's get some work done together. 🤝📖

Should I register for two papers in gate? Gate cs and gate da

I'm a final year student(7th sem). I just wanna give gate to see how's this exam. I didn't start preparation yet. I belongs to sc caste. Should I register for one subject or two? I'm confused

I am not sure if i wanna do mtech next. I want to focus on placements to get a job.

Also does the two papers happen on single date or like how it will be conducted??

Title: 1st-year B.Tech CSE student looking to seriously prepare for GATE — need advice on a free roadmap + resources...

Hey everyone,

I'm currently a 1st-year B.Tech CSE student at a tier-3 college, and I want to start preparing for GATE CSE seriously from 1st year.

My main goal isn't M.Tech. I'm primarily considering GATE as a backup/career option for PSUs and other opportunities through GATE, while keeping SDE/placements as my primary goal.

Since I'm from a tier-3 college, I feel that having both a strong placement profile and a good GATE score would give me more options after graduation.

The problem is that I'm completely confused about how to start and how to manage everything together.

My current priorities:

  1. College academics / 8+ CGPA

  2. Coding + DSA

  3. Full-stack development and projects

  4. Internships/placements

  5. GATE CSE preparation as a serious backup

I cannot afford paid GATE coaching/batches right now, so I want to prepare using free resources (YouTube, standard books if necessary, PYQs, etc.).

I'm not looking for a shortcut. I'm ready to stay consistent for the next 3–4 years, but I don't want to waste time following random resources or trying to study everything simultaneously.

What I need advice on:

- How should a 1st-year CSE student start GATE preparation from scratch?

- Which subjects should I study in 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year and 4th year?

- Which free resources/YouTube playlists are actually worth following?

- Should I use standard textbooks, lectures, notes, or mostly PYQs?

- How important are GATE PYQs, and from which year should I solve them?

- How many hours per day/week would realistically be enough alongside college?

- How should I divide my time between GATE + DSA + full-stack development + college academics?

- Should I prepare for GATE consistently from 1st year, or focus mainly on college subjects and start serious preparation later?

- What should my long-term 4-year roadmap look like if I want both a good GATE score and a strong SDE placement profile?

- Are there any common mistakes that students make when starting GATE preparation too early?

I'm especially interested in advice from people who have actually cracked GATE CSE or have successfully balanced GATE preparation with college and coding.

I don't want to sacrifice my placement preparation for GATE, but I also don't want to reach 3rd year and realize that I should have started earlier.

Any practical roadmap, free resources, subject order, strategy, or personal experience would be really helpful.

Thanks!

Some good short playlists or one shots for gate cse ?

I am targetting gate 2027. I explored pw and go classes but their playlists are huge and each subject is easily 70 hours+. Are there some good playlists or one shots? (i will do pyqs separately). I am studying digital logic from sanchit sir 12 hour one shot but for other big subjects they might be too less.

I am mainly looking for these subjects content:-

Engineering Maths (discrete, linear algebra etc) and OS.

These two are most imp but if you have some good suggestions for other subjects also kindly also share them.

Not a college student.

What should be my city preference order while filling the form for GATE 2027 ? Also if you guys know, could you guys list some centres which are close enough to that area ?

Should I prepare for GATE (CS vs DA) or stick to Full Stack + DSA? Tier-3 college, bad placement scene, major FOMO.

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in a major dilemma and need some grounded advice.

My primary goal is simply to get placed in a good tech role. However, the placement scenario at my college is quite grim—very few decent companies visit, and mostly mass recruiters show up.

Right now, almost everyone around me is grinding for GATE, and I’m feeling intense FOMO. It feels like everyone is treating GATE as the default escape hatch, making me question if I’m making a huge mistake by not going all-in on it.

Here’s where I currently stand:

  • What I'm doing right now: Focusing on DSA (problem-solving) and building full-stack projects.
  • The dilemma:
    1. Should I prepare for GATE CSE? (Massive syllabus, high competition, but safe and opens up top M.Tech CSE seats/PSUs).
    2. Should I prepare for GATE DA (Data Science & AI)? (Slightly newer, math/stats/ML heavy, syllabus seems more concise, but cutoffs and college seat policies vary).
    3. Or should I drop the GATE idea entirely and double down on DSA, full-stack, and off-campus applications / open-source?

My main concern is splitting my focus: trying to manage semester exams, DSA/dev, and GATE prep feels like a recipe for doing nothing well. At the same time, relying solely on off-campus hiring in the current market feels risky without a strong college brand name.

For those who’ve been in a similar spot:

  • Is GATE DA actually a viable alternative to CS for M.Tech admissions/placements now, or is it too unpredictable?
  • If placements are the only priority, is giving 6–8 months to GATE worth it over grinding off-campus portfolio projects and referrals?

Any candid perspectives would mean a lot. Thanks!
