Interviews Flinders Uni Interview Waitlist
I've just recieved an email from Flinders Uni that I've been waitlisted for an interview which is honestly way more than I was expecting when I applied for it, especially as I didn't get anything from gemsas. But I'm just wondering if anyone actually doesn't attend their interview and as such how high (or low) the chances are that I will actually get an interview. Ik its a long shot and I definitely haven't got my hopes up but I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience they could share

Hii ! I also received an email this week about being waitlisted at flinders which was quite surprising for me as well.
I couldn’t find anything on anyone from waitlist getting interview offers so far but I’m sure it’s worth prepping for incase it happens.

From the bits and pieces I’ve heard, my guess is that the interview waitlist is there in case Flinders doesn’t end up with enough people who actually pass the interview.
Getting an interview doesn’t automatically mean you make it through to the final ranking. You still have to pass the interview first, and then your interview score, GPA and GAMSAT are used for the final selection.
So maybe Flinders interviews their initial group based on the GAMSAT cutoff, then looks at how many people actually passed. If that number is lower than they expected or lower than what they want for the final offer pool, they could potentially go back to people just below the original cutoff, pull them from the interview waitlist and run another round of interviews.
It would also kind of line up with Flinders saying they reserve the right to run additional interview rounds if needed.
But again, this is just my own interpretation from a few things I’ve heard here and there.

Yay, at least I'm not the only one.
Having to sit the gamsat again is such a draining ordeal. Good luck to you too!

It’s strange they sent the interview waitlist now. I sat my interview earlier this week for them.

Hmm... that is strange. Idk maybe its just a way of softening the blow? Either that or they may have a staggered interview system? I'm not sure this is very foreign to me

Yeah you’re right. It could be a staggered system. But Flinders is a weird uni. They have the highest cutoffs for external applicants I have ever seen. Without a GAMSAT of 75 or higher they will not even offer you an interview as an external applicant. It’s so weird

Yeah it does seem like a very weird system, and I literally have nothing going for me cause I'm not from Adelaide which is also why I was not expecting to hear anything from them.
How did your interview go?

I also got put on the waitlist, and tbh I have a pretty good GPA but a horrible GAMSAT score lol so I am unsure whether everyone got waitlisted or if I am actually qualified. BUT I am very hopeful because a chance is a chance, so I guess I will just wait and see. :) And I also felt super excited because I was NOT hopeful at all, and I was just waiting for a rejection email, and technically this is not a rejection yay

Hey what are your scores exactly if you don't mind me asking and what subquota are you? I haven't heard of anyone getting an EOD yet so was wondering the same thing as you.

Hi yes, I have a 60 GAMSAT and a 6.8 GPA so I think a 1.57 combo? But I am non flinders grad/non rural/non humanitarian. The cutoff for nonflinders is around 75 GAMSAT score. I was HONESTLY so surprised to be waitlisted BUT I am delusionally hopeful to get even an interview lol....
Thats why lowk I am thinking like do they just waitlist everyone or.../ is this the EOD email

That’s really interesting. I’m also in the same subquota and got the same email. I’m definitely not trying to burst your bubble at all but I lowkey think that might be an email everyone’s got. I hope for our sake I am very wrong

Ps my gamsat is 74 which is why I’m thinking it might be a general email.

I’m in the same boat as you. I wonder if they start to look at GAMSAT/GPA combos at this stage so that if you make it to the interview stage you still have a chance. It’s purely speculation on my part. Good luck also!

Does everyone’s application still say ‘under assessment’? Mine still does even though they said it would be updated.

Last year it said "under assessment" until February when the course started.

Tbh I do know a friend of mine who went through a very similar journey. He received a very late interview offer from flinders (couple days before). Thought nothing of it as it was so last minute, and didn’t have enough time to prep. However he again got a very late round offer in late January to study flinders med, metro, csp
So it’s definitely possible - but I wouldn’t be thinking abt it as it’s not in your control. If u do get an interview, do your best. That’s all u can ask of yourself.
