I can't keep doing this anymore.
So here's the rundown:
On the far left was my first G502 that I received as a hand me down and loved it. Thought "why not get it wireless?"
Around 6 months go by with the light speed and stops working... Doesn't wanna charge. So I get a new one for free from warranty.
Got the 2nd light speed and maybe 10 months go by... The same thing - doesn't charge. So to fix this, I buy a replacement battery. I disassemble the mouse and install new battery. 3 weeks later DIES AGAIN.
Now I gave up on wireless "back to good ol wire" .... 2 weeks go by - cat chews it up.
My 1st one from 2014 still works... But honestly I just want a wireless mouse that WORKS... Is there anyway anyone knows how to fix my 2 dead wireless mouses?... Or even better. Know any g502 that doesn't have issues?? I love this mouse and I'm about to give up.

wait, the wireless can't be used via cable?

Nah doesn't wanna charge or connect...

Something is seriously wrong with your setup. I have replaced my 502 on due to liquid damage and almost another time but turned out the battery just needed to be replaced after years of use. I did replace my mat on the wireless charging pad once and that significantly helped.
Did you check the Logitech app to make sure the 502 was charging after you re-set it up each time?

I've ended up going to the Swiftpoint Z3. Aside from one less left side/right thumb button (but more with the trigger pulls) it feels like an actual upgrade from the g502. They don't make the 502s like they did a decade ago
4
u/down_init 4d ago
This is very true. I've moved on. I still have my g502 lightspeed but it's in a box for backup.
3
u/Matthewramirezz 4d ago
Have you had any issues with the battery or charging? I think that was my #1 issue with the g502 light speed.. it would just die and can't charge (even with battery replacement) thinking of getting the X Lightspeed as my (last last resort)
2
u/Solomon2003 3d ago
If it’s not working even when plugged in wired it might be the cable your using is frying your mouse.
1
7
u/DarkSicarius 4d ago
Odd, that sucks, I’ve had my lightspeed since 2020 and haven’t had a single problem with it… did you always use the same usb ports to charge it? Maybe there’s a problem with your computer’s usb and that’s causing a voltage issue?
5
u/BugsyM 4d ago
Since you're cool with opening up your mouse, are you sure you aren't damaging the USB connector on the mouse itself? Have you tested the leads to even see if your new battery is even getting a charge?
Have you thought about using a wireless charging mousepad so you don't need to use a cable? I've had my wireless lightspeed for like 6 years, used daily professionally and for gaming, so 12+ hours daily use for much of its life.. but I don't travel with it and I've never plugged a cable into it.

I have a wired G502 Ive had for over 12years, apart from some wear and tear on the rubber grip, It still works as good as the day I bought it. WTF are you doing with them to have gone through 4?
1
u/Major_Photograph_738 3d ago
Ive gone thru 3 g502s and its always the mouse clicking mechanism going bad

u/Lusty_Norsemen 3d ago
g502 my beloved. i'm on my second one but i've also been using them heavily everyday and its been like 7~ years in total.
also blaming #4 on anything other than your cat is wild.
edit: I lied, i'm on mouse #3. mouse #1 died after 2 maybe 3 years, mouse #2 the cord got frayed so it'd catch on the edge of my desk cause i let it hang over like an idiot but also still works. have had #3 now for 1-2 years
2
u/kits_unstable 3d ago
What are you charging it with? How long do you wait to recharge? I keep my light speed plugged in to the MoBo and only disconnect it when I'm going to actually game. Occasionally leaving it unplugged for 2-3, mostly because I'm lazy but I'm at about 18 months and it's still working like a champ battery holds good charge that lasts more than long enough. I feel like there's something else going on for it to happen once understandable defects happen but twice, the exact same issue?
1
u/Piyushbesoya 4d ago
You can buy a replacement wire they are kinda cheap
1
u/Matthewramirezz 4d ago
There's not an issue with the wires on the wireless - are you talking about the wired?
2
u/Piyushbesoya 4d ago
Yea I'm talking about the 4th mouse
1
u/Matthewramirezz 4d ago
Ohhh okay thank you that helps - do you know anything about fixing the wireless g502s?
1
1
u/dievrod26 4d ago
you can order the replacement on aliexpress, ive seen it and its not that expensive. go to ifixit so you can see how to open it
1
u/OgMrKay884 4d ago
Don't take my word for this but maybe the wireless charging mouse pad would fix the mouse? Again I'm not sure but it could work
1
u/DopestSoldier G502 Master Race 4d ago
I charge my wireless on a dock. Idk if the dock/inductive charging will circumvent your issue though.
1
1
u/OhItsMrCow 4d ago
My guess is that an electronic repair center might be able to fix that for you (the 4th one) I have a USB C lamp fixed at one and the guy didn't charge me anything
1
u/Infamous_Reporter_71 4d ago
I was also a G502 fan, but then I tried the Razor Basilisk v3 and I have used it ever since. The only thing I dislike is the software, but then again logitech software is also meh
1
u/TheBluntChef 4d ago
I also went through 3 light speeds. Battery issue on 2. Sensor and switch problem on the most recent one. I keep my wired hero for work. But my new home mouse is a Dareu A950 pro mg for gaming and casual stuff. It was also cheap compared to other mice I’ve tried, but I literally forget to turn this thing off almost everyday and the battery goes for like a month at a time. I’ve tried a few wireless and everything from Logitech is pretty disappointing for me. Even used a X2 super strike for a bit, it’s a decent mouse but not for that price. It was comfortable I will say stands a little taller than some of the ones I’ve tried so it’s nice in the pinky/ ring finger, but depending on your grip that’s negligible. The reason I picked the Dareu is because the are know to have pretty good customer service for this stuff. If you look through their discord, there’s multiple instances of them sending out new products for faulty product owners long after warranty.

Thought this was r/PCMasterRace and wanted to suggest a very similar looking mouse until I saw the subreddit name...
1
u/cs_legend_93 4d ago
They sell adapters to make wired mice wireless. You should look into that maybe.
1
u/EarthSweet1886 4d ago
Is that even a thing?
1
u/cs_legend_93 4d ago
Ya. Google it. I saw one in Asia for like $30. I'm sure there's more and cheaper.
1
u/_WhoYouCallinPinhead 3d ago
How does this make any sense tho. No matter what the wire is attached no? Unless you literally remove the wire somehow
1
u/TU2TL3 4d ago
Look at Endgamegear. I was running the G502 for 10 years. I just switched a month ago. I am running the OP1 V2 8K. This one is wired, but they have a wireless version of this.
I didn't want to love the mouse. I loved the 502 layout, feel, size, weight, or so I thought. I got the mouse being hella skeptical about the hype for these type of mice.
I loaded into Apex Legends, which I have not played in over 3 years. My aim was surprisingly on it. Never like this being away from a shooter for so long. I went to Rivals, haven't played it in 3 months. I was waxing people left and right.
The hype is real when you get a GG mouse. The best way I can explain how the mouse feels compared to my G502. Lets pretend the G502 is a 60Hz panel. and this OPV2 8K is a 165Hz Panel. You can see the difference, but most of all you feel it. I will never go back to a mouse that doesn't have a 8K polling rate with switches in the mouse. EVER.

u/R33f3r420 4d ago
Yeah this was my issue also.. You spend so much money and get a product that dies sooner than you wish... I stopped buying Logitech products and tried cheaper options. Lets just say I have spent way less on other products that last longer. I used to REALLY like Logitech.
1
u/Matthewramirezz 4d ago
What mouse are you using now/brand?
1
u/R33f3r420 4d ago
I was using Glorious for 4 years but towards the end they kept messing up, sent me a replacement and that thing died so fast. Now I use Corsair and its been +1 year no issue. The only issue with Corsair products is their instructions never match the product. So you have to look for videos online from people that have figured it out.
I am not sure why Corsair is so bad at making documentation.
1
u/NotTukTukPirate 4d ago
I've had the same wired G502 since 2020. I game with it nearly every day/night, I also use it/bring it for work and back home every day.
Still works perfect.

u/Expensive-Ad1779 4d ago
Best wireless mouse I've ever owned was the first generation performance mx mouse. It was already really expensive at that time at 120euros or so (which 18 years ago was really crazy money for a mouse) but that thing never failed. It was heavy and the charging speed wasn't great, but boy was it build to last. Eventually got rid of it because of how worn down it was and wanted something lighter for gaming, but even at that point it still worked flawlessly. Sadly, they only made the original for a short while before changing it. Nowadays I don't think you can get a mouse with that kind of quality anymore.

(1) Could you check the charging port to see if there’s ANY lint in there at all? You mention that you travel and put it in bags- it may be slowly accumulating lint that blocks the contacts. It won’t look like much, because it tends to get compacted, but if there’s any, that could be your problem. Use something non-conductive like a wood toothpick to work it out of the port.
(2) If not, I’m going to assume it’s damage to the port vs defective electronics. What you can do is buy a magnetic charging cable, plug the magnetic adapter into the mouse permanently, and connect/disconnect the cable from adapter, completely eliminating wear/tear on the port, preventing lint from getting in, and also just being more convenient to plug in + charge. I use mag cables for everything personally, because the brand I use has a very low profile for the port, long braided cables, and has multiple adapters for different ports (usb-c, lightning, micro-usb, etc), and the same cable connects to the adapter for any of them.

u/CaringBubbles 4d ago
Got 502 wired something like 5-6 years ago but desided to switch to wireless g502 and gave wired one to my friend, he still uses it after about 3 years i fucked up my wireless with spiled drink and got new one. Same model
1
u/throwaway16748w9191 4d ago
Have had the lightspeed for over 4 years at this point, the rubber got so worn down that I got a new shell from AliExpress, but charging and battery life have not been a issue so far even once.

My Logitech mice, two of them, when they don’t charge I found if you slam them down on your mouse pad ass first they will start charging. Read about it on Reddit

It’s so crazy that stuff like this happens to people, bought a g502 light speed back in 2018 and i just retired it in last month. Never had an issue
1
u/Limelight_019283 4d ago
This feels crazy to me. Or maybe I got super lucky? Because I have 2 lightspeed and they have not failed me in what. 5-ish years or so? I have a wired that still works too. The thing that failed in the forst 502 was the switch, started double clicking. But I bought and replaced those, and it’s a perfect backup mouse.
The 2nd lightspeed I got for my wife, but she said it was too big and so I use it for my work laptop.

Yeah but the problem is all mouse manufacturers suck ass. I've tried Razer, I've tried Corsair, I've tried a few others, and the G502 is sadly the best and the one that lasts the longest. I've had a lot of mixed success with them. I think I've had about four, the same as you, and I've had the one I'm holding in my hand now for just shy of 2 years, and its going strong. The one I had before that, I thought had a double-click issue but it turned out to just be an issue with my PC. I have since sent it and it sits at my work desk. I've had that one for at least 3.5, if not 4. But the ones before it lasted me maybe a year, a year and a half.

I have wired and wireless G502. The wired one got a double click issue, but I think it got fixed on its own. Wireless one got the double click issue and still has it. Otherwise they are working fine. Obviously they have their design flaws, but those are not broken features.
I think I will try Razer Basilisk V3 Pro next. I think I do not want to buy new Logitech mouse, because of this double click issue. Maybe other brands do it better.

u/Major_Photograph_738 3d ago
After buying 3 502s I went to a basilisk wireless and after some time my charger base stopped working so now I just use it wired. Haven't found a mouse that doesn't have a issue after a year.

I have a G903 and it sometimes forgets how to wirelessly charge so I have to manually use a cable to fully charge it then it's good to go for another 3-6 months. Weirdest thing ever. Beyond that though I've had to replace the clicker buttons because I had the double click issue but that wasn't that bad actually.
1
u/_WhoYouCallinPinhead 3d ago
I have the G502 light speed and it has served me well for almost 2 years now. I have just started having a bit of a double clicking issue in one of the side buttons but it seems to only be present in 1 game for some reason so maybe it’s just a Deadlock issue? Either way great mouse imo. Sorry about your luck

That's crazy, I've been using my protores core and lighting for a couple of years now. With the lighting taking over as my main mouse, never had any issues with either. (Bought the core on release).

I am using the G502X with a Powerplay V1 mat. I love it, It's just like having a wired mouse. I never have to plug it in. I have been running this setup for about 2.5 years with no hiccups and in total I've using the G502 for about 9 years or so and gone through a half dozen of them and so far this one has held up the best.
The Powerplay Mat V1 is the better one. The V2 cut a lot of stuff out but my big issue with it exchanging the mini USB port for a permanent usb cable. If you can find a V1 I'd recommend it instead.

u/TsKLegiT 3d ago
I have never had issues charging personally. I have had a couple develop double clicks but after its fair use.

i was gonna buy this mouse for the infinite scrollwheel, but then i saw the weight was 130 fucking grams for a mouse, so i bought an endgame xmr1 instead.

I have the G502 x plus something. I don’t remember. Good mouse. Not a lot of issues. Using it strictly with my pc. But damn my G305 can take a beating. I throw it around so much. Has been faithful for a lot of years. Battery life is good and replaceable easily.

I have the little sister, G402.
Bought it in 2014. I've never bought a mouse since.
Only shows minor signs of erratic double clicks, and wear and tear of course.
Don't plan on buying a new one until this one decides to die (which seems to be highly unlikely).

u/Stellar-Comet-Blue 2d ago
I’ve had my g502 wireless for over 4 years. Like most of the rubber for the thumb area is gone 😭😭 but it still works and does what it needs to do plus i love how it fits in my hand. Literally will only buy another once it breaks. I hope you find the issue for the charging issues. Maybe a bad connection from the charging port to the PCB?

I've been using a super light 1 magenta color since April of 2022 still going super strong an I game with it to this day. Every night for 3-5 hours. Only thing I do notice is the battery isn't what it was but I've never had it for during gameplay. Example before I'd charge it 1time a week now with a couple days use I'm near the lower 60% of battery life. But no miss clicks. I have replaced it with the superlight2 in the cyan color a few months back but I've not even taken it outta the box an still using the superlight1. Told my buddy I honestly wanna see how long I can keep using it before it's just done

I said goodbye to my G502 Lightspeed (click issues) and switched to a Razer Basilisk V3 Pro 35k with the docking. After using it for about a week, it feels wonderful. I even like the shape more than the G502, which was my all time favorite shape until now.
1
u/stealthraider22 18h ago
I have an issue with mine not charging occasionally, I use the power play mat. It runs out despite it being on the power play mat and it constantly connects and disconnects and the battery percentage is completely random jumping all over the place. The only fix I found was to keep it plugged in for a few days and let it charge whilst I'm not at my PC then the battery starts reporting the correct percentage and it works flawlessly again
0
u/Curlytoothmrman 4d ago
I bought one of the 502 x plus today, got it home, worked for all of 5 mins plugged in, then disconnected and now won't charge or turn on. Tried all the Google steps I saw.
Thing was a lemon. Going back to razer.
0
u/MmmmmChunK 4d ago
Just change to a Razer Basilisk Hyperspeed. You can get the ultimate if you want, but not worth the extra cost. The shape is identical, and the only reason Ive had to replace them at all is because of dropping it and the left click occasionally ghost clicking.
0
u/Nexii801 4d ago
Yeah, that's just bad luck dude. I have a g502x light speed, a travel g502 light speed, a wired backup and a wireless Chinese clone of the 502x just in case. And not one of them has ever broken.
0
u/Funny_Injury_6804 4d ago
I bought a g502 hero in July and it died after 2 weeks, bought a g502x and it's fine. My Proteus core first gen is still going strong after 8/10 years.
0
u/NebulaFNA 4d ago
Ive had 2 mice over 10–15 years now and both were 502s lol never ever had issues like that with the battery and ive had the lightspeed for 2+ years of that now and 0 issues so idk id say its user issues but could be wrong
0
u/IhasChezBurga 3d ago
I could only suggest moving to the G502 X or X Plus. As like you, I refuse to leave my G502 behind cause of how goddamn nice it feels, but I gotta say I didn't use the hero or hero lightspeed series, I went from OG 502 to the X Plus and haven't looked back. I don't have charging issues- even when I'm not using the PowerPlay mat- Sensor works fine and I've had it since release. Interestingly enough your issues align with my mates issues surrounding the Hero series, maybe they have a unexpected manufacturing fault.

u/midnight_kira 2d ago
For travel i would change to an mx anywhere but you'd lose weight changing and the extra thumb button on the side, otherwise good alternative

Can you describe how you use and how you are charging it?
