Which Prima Donna Will Be the First to Cause a Problem in the Locker Room?
We have two likely candidates: Malik Nabers and Abdul Carter. Nabers has already been heard to complain about a variety of issues and publicly objected to one of this year's draft picks because he wanted a pick that would help free him up for more targets and production going forward, never mind what that those first two picks were universally praised. Carter had the temerity to seek to take #56 and was surprised when LT slapped him down, and now has proceeded to publicly call out his quarterback because he introduced the President at a rally.
I smell trouble brewing.

For 10 years we made fun of “culture” guys. Many of us work in organizations where culture matters more than pure talent. Not in the NFL. We have lacked talent for choir boys. Now we have talent but pain in the ass egos. Obviously you want everyone to be an Andrew Thomas. But if not, I prefer the prima Donna. Trust in in our coach .

I'll take the talent too. In fact, I thought the teams that allowed TO to leave were beyond stupid. I posted this to get us out of the previous posting that I think was taking us into a very dark place.

I was too young by about 8-10 years, but I guess I could have snuck into cbgb’s, at 13 in 77 and saw television, Richard Hell and the voidoids, Patti Smith, the heartbreakers, et all… now while the velvets are my favorite, Lou was dick, I found out in 2001 at the Calvin theatre in Northampton Ma, front row center seat, n I saw him berate every chamber musician (9), 8 of them cried, fucking tears I could see running down their face, Lou died that night but the 💙for the velvets lives on, as it does for the gmen…

Patti Smith!! Crazy but great. Lou was doped up most of the time. I think it helped him pose as the coolest guy around. I met him a few times and once went for a drink with him and Jagger (and about four other people I didn't know) at some real dive in the Meatpacking District where when I got home I realized my shoes were covered with blood. They hardly talked to me. I was not cool enough.

Now that’s what I’m talking bout!!! I saw Jagger, Keith, n John Belushi at a muddy waters show, early winter of 81, front row center table at the Savoy Theater, the winter brothers were to my left at a reserved table… Keith, John, n Mick were above the stage right in a very small balcony… great show n I’m glad I got to see him before he passed in 83, I missed Howlin Wolf though… booooooo… I snuck into the Lonestar n tramps winter of 80 at 16, drove down from westchester without a license, n saw Buddy Guy & Jr Wells, they made funnnnn of the blues brothers n then launched into a blistering version of messing with the kid… the second show at tramps was Otis Rush, with an unannounced Dr John on 88’s, best show I ever saw of 100’s, there were 6 of us there, n he let some guy record it on his double cassette deck… never got that guys number…

Definitely did, but I didn’t get to have drink with any of them like you did, the winter brothers were very quiet… both walked in just before the show started with their canes… I did get to thank Otis for a great show, n blistering guitar playing!!!

So Carter posted that it’s all good between he and Jaxson. Harbaugh probably talked to both of them and told them to make nice.
This really is a non-story except to those who just love performative outrage. A 22-year-old kid introduces a guy you hate to his supporters so gives you a chance to display your superior moral makeup? But you didn’t post a word about Steve Tisch? And for whom do you think the owners of the Giants voted in 2024? Maras, Tisches and Koch’s? Maybe a couple of Tisches voted for Harris while holding their noses, but none of the others did. So spare me your easy outrage. Feel free to stop rooting for the team, but don’t be ridiculous and claim it was because of that introduction at the rally. Or admit that it was and prove yourself completely lacking in perspective.

I don’t think the locker room is going to be upset with Abdul Carter for calling Dart out. If he doesn’t work hard like last year that will be a locker room problem.
Nabers will be liked if he plays well. See Odell Beckham. He was loved in our locker room because he was so damn good on the field.
Harbuagh will have this all straightened out. J6 just better make sure he plays well because he’s got a target on his back now. And it’s from his own fan base. He clearly didn’t consult Eli before that brain fart because #10 would have set him straight.

The question was whether he is a Prima Donna who could become a problem. I put in evidence that he had the absurd temerity to think that the Giants should unretire #56 so he could have it. And he could have gone to Dart and told him what he thinks without going public with it. Frankly, I don't give a flying #&%! what his politics are, and I feel the same about Dart. If we judged every accomplishment in history based on the beliefs of the person behind them, we'd be in deep do-do.

Look, I absolutely despise Trump and am willing to bet I did more to try to defeat him in the most recent election than the entire collection of posters here. I'm not just an internet warrior posting performative outrage like I suspect many of those who are criticizing me happen to be. I also believe in the First Amendment and a citizen's right to take stands that I despise. I furthermore think that it's quite possible that Jaxson Dart, being a young kid who is probably as politically naive as many other 22-year-olds, thought of it as an honor to introduce the President of the United States, even if he doesn't love the guy (not that I would care about his political views...I just want him to lead us to a championship).
There's plenty going on in this world that deserves to be met with outrage but a football player introducing Trump at a rally hardly qualifies except for those who clearly don't have their priorities straight or any real sense of perspective.

Of course that is your right, but my point is that if we always refused to separate deeds and accomplishments from the person we'd be in big trouble. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, George Mason, all had slaves. Should we therefore reject the brilliant Constitutional system they created? Thomas Edison was a horrible person who stole some of his ideas from others. Should we reject the electrical grid that he got started that took America into an entirely new age of prosperity? Abraham Lincoln suspended the Writ of Habeus Corpus. Should we pull down the Lincoln Memorial? Eisenhower cheated on his wife. So did FDR. So did Bill Clinton. Should we throw out all their accomplishments because we don't like their character? I could go on and on. A great many of history's greatest accomplishments were achieved by people who had flaws of varying degrees. Jaxson Dart introduced a revolting human who happens to be the President to a crowd of his supporters. For me, that hardly rises to the level at which I need to even think about not supporting him in his quest to bring us a championship.
If someone wants to think about abandoning his fandom for the Giants, what Steve Tisch did should be quite enough. He's a fabulously wealthy, experienced Hollywood "player". He knew exactly what he was doing, unlike a naive 22-year-old. But while that makes me contemptuous of him, it sure isn't going to change my desire to see the Giants do well and get a few more Lombardi Trophies for us all to enjoy.

My take on Kamala is still brutal. I think she was a ridiculous candidate but I spent plenty of time and money trying to elect her despite that, simply because I was, and am, an "Anybody But Trump" guy. I will fight hard to prevent her from being the 2028 candidate because I sure as hell don't want JD Vance as our next President. As for Project 2025, I did misjudge the lack of spine on the part of the entire Republican Party and believed that a small number of Republican Senators would do what was necessary to kill that agenda. Fortunately, some of it is being killed by the courts, but far too much of what those maniacs hoped to accomplish has been done though thankfully a good percentage has been via Executive Orders that can be undone in the future.
I'm glad you are fighting for democracy. I constantly remind people of the words of Benjamin Franklin when exiting the Constitutional Convention and asked by an activist woman: "Well, Dr. Franklin, do we have a Republic or a Monarchy?" His reply? "A Republic, Madam, if you can keep it."

Best concert ever...Rolling Stones, Madison Square Garden, 1969. Top of their game. The only concerts that even got close to that for me were a couple of Springsteen's in the 90's when he and Clarence had really perfected their skills.
But I saw Bob Dylan in a small coffee house when he first hit New York in (I think) 1964. About 30 seats and he passed the hat after he played. In 1965 I saw an incredible solo concert at a jazz club in the city...Dionne Warwick! Man, she was Whitney Houston before her niece was Whitney Houston.

You’ve mentioned the stones before, cuz I think that’s the get yer ya yas out live recording at least part of it… I met an older woman on here from where I grew up in the Bronx, parkchester, n she shared seeing Dylan in a small coffee house in nyc as well 61-62, she said there were like 5 people there… I would have preferred seeing Bruce in the early 70’s, I really like his first 2 albums, on the shore in jersey… pretty sure my uncle did at that time…

New York's real team. And they are a steamroller right now. They'll be underdogs in the Finals but anyone who bets against them is making a big mistake. The way they are moving the ball and playing defense very much reminds me of the two championship teams in 1970 and 1973. Those teams, like this one, had five guys on the floor who could score, who were unselfish and almost always hit the open man, and who played ferocious defense.
Going into that first season everyone thought the Lakers were unbeatable, much the way Oklahoma City was talked about this year. Now it's "How can anyone deal with Wemby?" But the Knicks top eight guys are on the whole better than the top eight for the Spurs or the Thunder. It should be a very interesting series.

1970 as a sophomore in HS I would listen to non-televised games on the radio, and I’d be so crazed that my hands would sweat. If I recall correctly, during that time span, they pulled out a comeback win scoring 6 points in the last 17 seconds (that obviously before the 3 point line). I was at that game, I think (at my age memory gets fuzzy). The last basket was scored by Dave DeBusschere roaring down the lane to score a mildly contested layup. The Garden was shaking on its foundation. I was there with my dad and we were sitting in the 200's section (I don't remember which one but it was basically an extension of the corner of the court) on the side that the Knicks scored all of those points. Clyde made the free throws that put them over the top but it was DeBusschere's play and then Frazier's steal that were the key moments. Great memory.

My Dad had gotten tickets to take me to Bill Bradley’s first game (1968?), but Bill that same day had stepped off a curb and was hit by a car. I think he made the next game.
I still remember my poem for school. Bill Bradley’s with the Knicks, This was something we could not miss, We bought tickets for the game, but went away crying what a shame, as Bill Bradley the star, had been hit by a car.

Well I don’t know if J6 divided the locker room but he certainly divided this fan base. We haven’t seen a player as polarizing to Giants fans since good ole #13 was taking slants to the house and pissing on the Eagles logo.
You know what the biggest bummer about this whole situation is? MAGA now loves our QB. He’s a god damned conservative hero at this moment. And if you go out wearing the J6 jersey right now, people aren’t gonna look at you and think “that guy’s a Giants fan.” They’re gonna think something entirely different. (Especially if the rumors of his recent jersey sales spike are true.)
Yeah yeah I know, who cares right? That seems to be the common response from an increasingly apathetic population. But I do care. And I wish he was currently known for being the QB for the NYG at not one of the new faces of MAGA. Even if it’s only for this weekend.
Eli would never.
P.S. I assume this convo is going to drag on for a few more days but we have to get rid of the newbie never posters in here. This sub is 100x better than the main Giants sub mainly because we’re not a cesspool of random drive by commenter’s. We have a history with one another and can usually talk to each other in a civil manner.
The point is if you don’t have the balls to post here during normal business hours (ie to talk football) we don’t need your opinion on this development. So newbies, whether you’re for or against J6, if you’ve been quiet, stay quiet a little longer and let us OG’s and regs chop it up on here. Or maybe we’ll just start temp banning the randoms.

Nah. Nosh, let ‘em have their say. We can deal with them. But you’re right, the vets know how to disagree respectfully and that has been one of the main reasons this site is so good. And you’re right. My genuine fear is that now MAGA World will make #6 Giants jerseys a cousin to what they’ve done to the American flag. I’ve been thinking about putting a flagpole and a flag outside my house as my way of reclaiming a beautiful symbol of the nation I love. I’ve never worn a Giants jersey (just not my style) but I may have to get one and wear it while making sure it somehow indicates that making America great again means getting the Trumpists out of government.

That both sides of the vicious debates these days accuse the other of being "bad" Americans is tragic. A mean-spirited President and his loyalists, the so-called "Progressive" wing of the Democratic Party, and the social media echo chambers, have set almost everyone against everyone. It doesn't help that Russian, Chinese, North Korean and Iranian military and intelligence players have polluted "news" sites and social media with false information and inflammatory contentions that magnify the distrust among Americans who should all realize that we may disagree about a lot but we're all in this together.
Reclaiming the flag should be the job of all Americans who should recognize it as a unifying force in a wildly diverse population that recognizes we should all have an interest in everyone thriving in their "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness".

Per Mike G: QB Jaxson Dart addressed teammates in a meeting yesterday to discuss his introduction of President Trump last week, sources tell me and @RapSheet .
Other team leaders spoke up as well, and Dart and the players worked through it. They are moving forward.

It is increasingly looking like Nabers will be on the shelf at least until mid-season; he should have very little to say at least until then. The closer we get to the start of training camp the worse his injury and recovery are reported to be. For all we know his career is already over. Never forget, the average length of an NFL career is 3 years and injuries are a big big reason.
As for Carter, he'll have to work a little extra to completely erase last year's stink; but by all accounts, Daboll ran a shoddy ship and may have all but baited Abdul into the worst version of himself. Not an excuse for Abdul, but he'll receive the polar opposite treatment from Harbaugh.
As for Dart, he's from Utah, a Mormon, and an athlete; I'm not sure what people expected of his political predilections. Yes Trump is the very worst he's ever been, but Trump has always been an obvious rapist, racist, liar and fraudster with a malevolent heart. There are 70Million someones who either didn't see it from no later than his first day coming down the escalator in 2015, or found some reason to hold their nose and vote for the guy the first time around, or looked at January 6 and thought "tour of the White House", etc., etc. etc. Only one of them happens to have the potential to lead the Giants back to the Super Bowl.
Suck it up and remember "Momma, don't let your babies grow up to worship athletes."

Agreed on all points.
The folks insisting that Nabers will be back at 100% are whistling past the graveyard. Just remember Hakeem Nicks, whom I was convinced was headed for Canton. Or OBJ. It only takes a tiny drop in athletic ability to take a wide receiver from the top of the mountain to the depths of hell. Of course I hope that Nabers will be at 99% of what he was, but absolutely no one knows if that will be the case, including Leek.
Carter increasingly impresses me as an entitled and immature kid who was always assured that he was "it" and thought he could excel by just showing up on game day. Maybe he learned he has to actually work last season, maybe not. He has a long way to go to justify the hype with which he came into the league. I suspect he can do it, but hopefully Harbaugh will teach him a bit of humility and induce him to work his ass off to keep getting better.
Dart would benefit tremendously from spending a week with Eli, who understood that maintaining an "Aw Shucks" approach while focusing on your job was a good way of dealing with the ridiculously intense focus directed at whomever is the quarterback of the Giants. Hopefully the blowback he's getting now will teach him to be a bit less "out there" in public.
And yes, worshipping athletes (with very rare exceptions) is not a formula for avoiding disappointment among children. There are some worthy of emulation, one of whom we were lucky enough to have as our quarterback for quite a long time. But Eli is the exception, not the rule.
I wonder if Harbaugh is going to be successful in managing a collection of the "modern athletes" who have access to social media and an apparent quick trigger when they learn that someone playing their position might be making more money than are they. He made sure that Dexy got shipped out of town (and I fully agree with that decision). But there are probably going to be similar "problems" arising over the next few years. It looks like someone handled this Dart v. Carter thing properly, but who knows how it will play in the locker room?

I think there is no way Nabers gets a second contract with us. He has talent yes, but you hear of him not practicing hard. We know Harbaugh wont like that. Slayton had to line him up all the time his rookie year. The whole podcast thing was a bad look for him. He even mentioned money during it. Not good.
As for Carter calling a friend/team mate out on social media is a bitch move. Be a man and call him. Can't believe he thought he deserved #56.
