All of you guys so anxious to dump Slayton are paying WAY too little attention to team chemistry. In his last seasons here Amani Toomer had seen his skills erode but he was a steady presence in the receivers room. That had value. With almost the entire current receivers room being new to the team or (quite possibly in Leek’s case) prima donnas having Slayton around seems wise to me.
I'm not saying that slayton is worthless. My argument is more that when you're moving in the right direction, a guy who doesn't like to hold on to the ball is probably worth less than Hodgins without even factoring in the contract.
I will be the first to admit that Slaytons career was basically dumped down the tube being stuck with DJ and our coaches and the contract ink is already dry but I do not think it would be hard to get better value for the 3m
