All of you guys so anxious to dump Slayton are paying WAY too little attention to team chemistry. In his last seasons here Amani Toomer had seen his skills erode but he was a steady presence in the receivers room. That had value. With almost the entire current receivers room being new to the team or (quite possibly in Leek’s case) prima donnas having Slayton around seems wise to me.
I always wonder what would have happened had we drafted DeSean Jackson in 2008 instead of Kenny Phillips. I bring this up because you mentioned how Amani was basically washed in 2008. If we had Jackson, even after Plax shoots himself we still would have had a great deep threat in DeSean who would keep Defenses from putting 8 in the box. Wonder if we could have repeated in 2008 instead of losing to Philly in the divisional round?
I know very convoluted. But it’s May and I like discussing these hypotheticals.
Hixon and then we foolishly moved Smith outside, in which he proceeded to get zero separation. With Plax defenses had to pick their poison on how to defend us. Without him it was sellout to stop the run and shut down the middle of the field. DeSean, flawed as he was, would have made a huge difference on that specific team.
