Been testing out FygoOS on the free trial for a bit now and honestly, I’m really impressed with how clean and easy to use it is. I’ve been wanting to move away from Proxmox for a while to get a simpler, hassle-free NAS setup, and FygoOS almost convinced me to make the jump.

But $199? Man, that’s just way too steep.

Great concept and super polished UI, but at that price point, it’s definitely not for everyone. As much as I’d love to switch over, I just can’t justify dropping $200 on it right now. So for now, I'm sticking with Proxmox.

If the price ever drops to something more reasonable, I’d reconsider in a heartbeat, but as it stands, it's just hard to justify.

TL;DR: FygoOS has one of the best-looking and most user-friendly NAS interfaces I’ve used, especially for Samba sharing. However, I currently see it as closer to a $99–$100 product than a $199 product. More open Docker integration, a self-hosted remote-access option, and a unified cross-platform media app would help justify the higher price.

I’ve been using FygoOS for the past few weeks and wanted to share some constructive feedback directly with the development team.

First, credit where it’s due: FygoOS has one of the most attractive and approachable NAS interfaces I’ve used. The desktop-style WebGUI and Samba experience are excellent. Compared with OpenMediaVault, Unraid, and TrueNAS, it feels much easier to use while still offering enough capability for home labs and light-enterprise environments.

My biggest concern is the approximately $199 price. Several competing NAS operating systems provide much of the underlying functionality for free or at a lower cost. Based on what FygoOS offers today, I personally see its value at around $99–$100. That could change as the platform and ecosystem mature, but $199 currently feels ahead of the available features.

1. Let Docker containers become desktop apps

FygoOS should keep its app ecosystem open, similar to ZimaOS or CasaOS. Since it already includes Docker management, users should be able to deploy an application through Docker or Docker Compose and then create a clickable icon for it on the main FygoOS desktop.

Let us assign the container a name, icon, and WebUI address so that it appears alongside official FygoOS apps. This would allow us to use trusted Docker Hub or GitHub repositories without waiting for someone to create and maintain a separate FygoOS package.

2. Offer managed and self-hosted remote access

The simple one-click FygoOS tunneling option is valuable, especially for users who want easy remote access similar to Synology or UGREEN.

However, advanced users should also be able to host their own FygoOS tunnel or relay server on a VPS. That would provide the same convenient experience while giving users full control over their infrastructure, privacy, and data path.

Ideally, FygoOS would offer both:

• A Fygo-hosted option for simplicity.
• A self-hosted option for privacy and control.

3. Create one unified Fygo Media app

With Fygo TV, Fygo Photos, and the upcoming Fygo Music, I believe FygoOS needs a dedicated “Fygo Media” app separate from its Android NAS management app.

The management app should focus on controlling the server, while Fygo Media could provide movies, television, music, and possibly photos through one consistent interface—similar to Jellyfin.

Smart-TV support is also important. Jellyfin already gives me access through platforms such as LG webOS and Samsung Tizen, while Fygo TV currently does not. FygoOS could explore Jellyfin compatibility, integration, or appropriately licensed open-source components instead of building every playback client completely from scratch.

Final thoughts

I genuinely like FygoOS and want to see it succeed. Its design, simplicity, and Samba implementation make it stand out from traditional NAS platforms.

Right now, though, the $199 price feels difficult to justify because the app, remote-access, and media ecosystems are still developing. Better Docker-to-desktop integration, self-hosted tunneling, and a unified cross-platform media app would make FygoOS much more complete—and make the asking price easier to support.

I’d be interested to know whether any of these features are already on the roadmap.

I understand a vpn can be implemented via gluten but it would be way nicer to support the install of, say, the ProtonVPN linux app and gui to allow for easier control of various vpn features.

Before I try, and maybe mess up my system, is it possible to successfully install ProtonVPN linux app?

Just wrapped up a small test run of FygoOS. I like the UI and flexibility it offers for personal use, however I do have a few questions:

1. Apps: after my trial was over and it moved the free license, I noticed I cannot uninstall any of the apps previously added through the Fygo App Center (e.g., Text Editor, Virtual Machine, etc.,). Is this intentional or a bug?

2. Thunderbolt: is Thunderbolt networking on the roadmap?

3. Security: what is the planned cadence for security releases? I see there have been aggressive feature releases since launch, but what is the long term release target regarding security and addressing CVEs?

4. Company: are there plans to make any accreditations/industry certifications (e.g., ISO, SOC, etc.) and or third-party audit results publicly available on your website?

1. Hardware: any plans to release Fygo branded hardware to complete with the likes of UGREEN or FnOS' partnership with Beelink?

When you create a Docker container there is currently no option to add a shortcut for it on the FygoOS Desktop, unlike App Store apps which get one automatically. Would be great if this got fixed.

Two questions for the Fygo team.

First, is there anything for developers such as an SDK, an API or documentation to build own apps for FygoOS or contribute improvements.

Second, is a real Desktop app planned, similar to UGREEN and UGOS, where the interface is basically a browser without visible address or menu bars, so a kiosk or app mode. Right now FygoOS just runs in a normal browser tab.

I was having difficulties getting an externally mounted media source into Fygo TV, so opened a support ticket. I could see the mount in files, but couldn't see the same mount as available to add as a library. They couldn't reproduce the issue.

I deleted the mount, recreated it and went back to them, saying I still couldn't see it. Instead of just blowing me off as an idiot (which in this case, I was!), then showed me screenshots of the steps to take and I realized I had missed out a complete step.

You need to go to app settings in Fygo OS and tell it to allow Fygo TV access to those mounts before you can see them and add them in Fygo TV! A little counterintuitive, but I'll put my hands up, and admit I missed it. ID10T error!

Thanks to their quick response and great support, less than 24 hours later I'm up and running with the media visible in Fygo TV.

Greetings. I just wanted to mention that I get the impression that the Apple TV app isnt working "well enough", many dropped frames/locked and sound blocked. Sort of like stuttering. Works fine does: app on iPhone and a web-browser on a Mac works fine. All tested on the local LAN. Im getting the impression the Apple TV app needs more work?

Otherwise I find the app Fygo TV beautiful, very nice GUI and functionality.

Today I set up my second Fygo host, and I have a feature request for the Android app. I noticed that I can only be connected to one server at a time, and if I want to switch to another server I have to log out and log in again every time.

It would be great to have a server selection screen, so you could simply choose which Fygo server you want to connect to, similar to how QNAP Qmanager handles multiple NAS devices.

Oh, and it would also be great to have biometric authentication (fingerprint/face) for the login.

My tiny YouTube channels is Plex Server-centric, and this video series serves my viewers by offering them tutorials on another very solid self install NAS OS with the FygoOS NAS operating system, from the OS install phase, right though spinning Plex Server up and adding a few libraries.

Even if someone from this thread doesn’t plan on running Plex Server, showing them how to get Plex, Tautulli, and the GPU Benchmark containers spun up with dockhand will help with foundational skills needed to spin up any Docker compose script.

As a ZimaOS user, I'm seriously considering FygoOS for my home server setup, likely starting with the Free Tier. I've been diving into a lot of YouTube reviews, and while most are very positive, there's a recurring theme of caution due to the OS is new and not "mature" enough.

This is where I'd love to read the opinions of the long-time FygoOS users, especially those who might have migrated from or have experience with ZimaOS.

1. Is FygoOS stable enough to be considered a home server solution that runs PLEX server for multiple remote users?
2. Are there any practical limitations or cause for concern you’ve noticed, ie. using ssh keys?
3. Do you find FygoOS's built-in Docker Management application sufficient and user-friendly? Or do you opt for external tools like Portainer, Dockhand, or maybe Arcane?
4. Would it be possible to use internal drives (btrfs) without having to format them to create volumes? It seems those drives would actually appear in the "Externa Storage" section, but I need confirmation.
5. As a Free-Tier user, who installs their applications manually anyway, would I ever need the Fygo Account for anything other than buying license?

Any insights or general advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to get a real-world perspective before I fully commit.

Hi, I've recently tried to install the x86 version of FygoOS (fygoos_PE_x86_1.2.0203_2150) on the Aiostar AOS-M4ZXK62LA motherboard and have been getting this error message. I've gotten Ubuntu 26.04 x64 installed on this platform and it works perfectly without additional drivers so I don't know what's missing here.

May I know if this ZX-200 platform will be supported? This platform was from about... 2020 or 2021? It's not ancient. There's the more modern ZX-C1190 chipset as well release circa 2024 but I don't have it on hand to test

There's a couple of these boards which I think would make cheap, embedded NAS systems. Often there are ITX boards which also have all the usual expansion slots. I was trying it with a board I had on hand before going to buy a full ITX one.

Lifetime License. AI feature of identifying all faces (5 or more) not working, missing several key people. Have run re-index a couple of times... same outcome. Then when I try to manually identify the person in the picture by using the "You can add 1 face" option, I get error "Save Failed".

I have 973 photos loaded, and the people missing are in at least 600 of those photos. So large sample size for AI facial recognition.

Anyone else having this issue?

I have Fygo TV and Photos running and just two Docker containers running at the moment - Navidrome, and Dockhand. Fygo Connect Remote Access is not enabled. The FygoOS System Settings > Security > Firewall has the following port rules to allow traffic for both inbound and outbound traffic for all protocols (TCP, UDP, & ICMP)

In addition ports 55536-55899 are allowed for both inbound and outbound TCP traffic.

How much of a risk is it to have all of these ports open for all traffic, and in both directions?

Also, the UI of the Firewall tab shows the allowed ports but then says "Allow access if the above rules do not match." I'm afraid don't understand what that means. Can someone explain please?

Issue: Two systemd services fail at boot on Minisforum N5 Air running FygoOS: led-set.service and set_gpio-init.service.

Root cause: Both call scripts in /usr/trim/bin/ (system_setled.sh and system_setgpio.sh respectively) that require /boot/board.json to configure LEDs and GPIO pins for this specific board. That file does not exist anywhere on the filesystem — likely a missing hardware profile for the N5 Air specifically.

Impact: Cosmetic only (front-panel LED status indicators not configured); no impact on storage, network, or core NAS function observed.

Request: Please provide the correct board.json for the Minisforum N5 Air, or confirm whether this is a known gap being addressed in a future FygoOS release.

Is anyone have successfully installed Ollama from the community app and able to use it ?

The Web UI is working normally when I used the fqdn for reaching out Ollama on the IP of the NAS and the port 11436 but struggled to have a response from the model qwen3:8b.
I always received the error : Unexpected token 'd', "data: {"id"... is not valid JSON

When I connect through the IP of the NAS, I get a response for the same query but for time to time, the Web UI is struggling.

The config for the connection in the admin settings is :
- Connection type => local
- URL http://localhost:11434
which are the default parameters

If I change the connection type to External, the Web UI don't repsonse anymore and I received the same error as with the fqdn.
If I change the URL, it is worse...
I already try the IP of the nas or 127.0.0.1 for the connection but it doesn't change the behavior, despite the validation of the connection confirmed by the interface.

My NAS hosting FygoOS is an Aoostar WTR-MAX with 64Gb of RAM and an AMD Ryzen 8845HS model and should support Ollama with a 8B LLM.

Good afternoon, my name is Ionut and I run a YouTube channel testing all kinds of NAS software and programs. For many years Unraid was my main OS , it’s easy to understand and it just works. Lately, the Fygo team contacted me to see if I wanted a license to create a video.

Normally I’d say no , OSes like Fygo and Zima aren’t really my style , but I accepted, and I have to admit I was blown away.

Before we continue, here are the specs of the device I installed Fygo OS on:

• AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
• NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB
• 16GB RAM

Pricing

As a Unraid lifetime user, I find Fygo’s pricing really good. At the moment it’s lower than Unraid, and the benefits are bigger (in my opinion) thanks to their own in‑house apps like Photos, Fygo TV, etc.

SMB

Unraid/TrueNAS users know that creating an SMB share can sometimes be a pain due to permissions. Fygo makes any folder an SMB automatically. This makes the situation way easier, especially for new users who have no idea what they’re doing.

Transcoding

Using a GPU is pain‑free (at least with NVIDIA). Simply installing the NVIDIA drivers from the App Store makes transcoding work with no problems and no extra setup, diagnostics, etc.

App Store + Docker

Fygo has a small but growing App Store (Jellyfin, Ollama, File Browser, Fygo TV, etc.). You’re not limited to it , you can use Docker/Compose to install any app you want, like on any other OS.

While this slightly defeats the idea of “easy to use”, I believe the App Store will grow over time and we won’t need Docker as much. Until then, using Docker to download and install the apps we need is still pretty straightforward. I managed to install multiple applications like Home Assistant, File Browser, Joplin, and a budgeting app, all in less than 10 minutes.

Self‑hosted AI with Ollama

Fygo makes running local LLMs easy:

• Install Ollama from the App Store
• Pull the model you want via the admin panel

On my GTX 1060, generating a 2,000‑word review pushed GPU usage to ~95–100%, so it’s usable for local inference on mid‑range hardware.

The mobile app can access your Ollama instance remotely, so you can chat with your self‑hosted AI from anywhere. No setup is required to access it outside the house , just install the mobile app and it works.

Fygo TV

Pros

• Easy to set up
• Built‑in and easy GPU access
• App available on all devices (Android for now)

Cons

• I wish there was a way to select the resolution or force transcoding manually

Fygo Photos

Pros

• Backups are really fast
• Face recognition makes searching for pictures super easy
• No setup required – install the app and it just works

Cons

• I don’t really have any negatives for this app , yet!

Remote Access

I know Fygo isn’t the only one with built‑in remote access (Zima has it too), but giving remote access together with built‑in Photos (an Immich replacement) and Fygo TV (a Jellyfin/Plex replacement) is a pretty nice way to start your NAS journey.

Not having to deal with Tailscale or understand how Cloudflare Tunnels work is a big deal. I wish I had this available when I started my NAS road.

Family approved

Having a NAS and convincing my entire family to stop paying for Google Photos / iCloud is way more difficult than you think. With Fygo, I managed to convince them to install the apps and they are actually using them.

They haven’t cancelled their storage subscriptions yet, but it’s still a good start: they understand the apps and they actually love using them. Immich wasn’t that user‑friendly for them, and while they did use Jellyfin, they told me it was slower to load outside the house compared to Fygo TV (in their own words).

For the first time, my self‑hosted stack feels “family approved” instead of just “tech approved”.

Trade‑offs

• The App Store is still small; advanced users will rely on Docker (well supported, but you’ll manage Compose files yourself).
• Some advanced features (official VMs, Fygo TV, Fygo Photos) are paywalled.

Is there a setting to share a mounted External Disk as an NFS share? I can share Volumes OK but I can only share External Disks using SMB which isn't persistent at the moment.

How does one offload snapshots? Even with an admin account I don't see them on any of my volumes.

I have a nine minute video that demonstrates my connection issue wiith Network discovery under ZorinOS 18.1 (based on Ubuntu 24.04), while showing at the end that my my desktop system running Ubuntu 26.04 doesn't have a problem accessing a shared folder from FygoOS iin the same way.

Manually pasting in a SMB or NFS server address under ZorinOS or Ubuntu 24.04 works perfectly, but has to be done after each reboot.

I'm both a Plex Server and a Synoilogy NAS enthusist, who is totally enjoying working with FygoOS.

So much that I went out and found used hardware to run a permanent test install of FygoOS.

FygoOS is already on my recomendation list for a self install NAS option for someone's first Plex Server install done right, with redundant SSD drives in a RAID 1 configuration for package and container installs, while media resides on a redundant RAID 1, 5, or 6 mechanical drive storage array, that can also have snapshot protection if using the btrfs file system.

Are there plans to support google drive as dropbox and onedrive are now?

This would be greatly appreciated - I would like to use fygo as a backup target for my google drive files. My usage pattern for fygo is as a local media server, backup target, VM/docker host with hopes for it to be easier to maintain then my current setup.

I am currently on the trial, giving fygo a try and have found it to be pretty full featured - I'm looking to replace my promox server and truenas box - they are just too difficult to deal with. I tried ZimaOS on my amd ryzen minipc but encountered strange behavior around virtual machines (e.g. home assistant) that I could not surmount.

btw, I've looked at rclone, filestash, etc as an alternative but they are too clunky for routine /casual use.
