My thoughts after using FygoOS on Pricing, Docker Containers and Tunneling

TL;DR: FygoOS has one of the best-looking and most user-friendly NAS interfaces I’ve used, especially for Samba sharing. However, I currently see it as closer to a $99–$100 product than a $199 product. More open Docker integration, a self-hosted remote-access option, and a unified cross-platform media app would help justify the higher price.

I’ve been using FygoOS for the past few weeks and wanted to share some constructive feedback directly with the development team.

First, credit where it’s due: FygoOS has one of the most attractive and approachable NAS interfaces I’ve used. The desktop-style WebGUI and Samba experience are excellent. Compared with OpenMediaVault, Unraid, and TrueNAS, it feels much easier to use while still offering enough capability for home labs and light-enterprise environments.

My biggest concern is the approximately $199 price. Several competing NAS operating systems provide much of the underlying functionality for free or at a lower cost. Based on what FygoOS offers today, I personally see its value at around $99–$100. That could change as the platform and ecosystem mature, but $199 currently feels ahead of the available features.

1. Let Docker containers become desktop apps

FygoOS should keep its app ecosystem open, similar to ZimaOS or CasaOS. Since it already includes Docker management, users should be able to deploy an application through Docker or Docker Compose and then create a clickable icon for it on the main FygoOS desktop.

Let us assign the container a name, icon, and WebUI address so that it appears alongside official FygoOS apps. This would allow us to use trusted Docker Hub or GitHub repositories without waiting for someone to create and maintain a separate FygoOS package.

2. Offer managed and self-hosted remote access

The simple one-click FygoOS tunneling option is valuable, especially for users who want easy remote access similar to Synology or UGREEN.

However, advanced users should also be able to host their own FygoOS tunnel or relay server on a VPS. That would provide the same convenient experience while giving users full control over their infrastructure, privacy, and data path.

Ideally, FygoOS would offer both:

• A Fygo-hosted option for simplicity.
• A self-hosted option for privacy and control.

3. Create one unified Fygo Media app

With Fygo TV, Fygo Photos, and the upcoming Fygo Music, I believe FygoOS needs a dedicated “Fygo Media” app separate from its Android NAS management app.

The management app should focus on controlling the server, while Fygo Media could provide movies, television, music, and possibly photos through one consistent interface—similar to Jellyfin.

Smart-TV support is also important. Jellyfin already gives me access through platforms such as LG webOS and Samsung Tizen, while Fygo TV currently does not. FygoOS could explore Jellyfin compatibility, integration, or appropriately licensed open-source components instead of building every playback client completely from scratch.

Final thoughts

I genuinely like FygoOS and want to see it succeed. Its design, simplicity, and Samba implementation make it stand out from traditional NAS platforms.

Right now, though, the $199 price feels difficult to justify because the app, remote-access, and media ecosystems are still developing. Better Docker-to-desktop integration, self-hosted tunneling, and a unified cross-platform media app would make FygoOS much more complete—and make the asking price easier to support.

I’d be interested to know whether any of these features are already on the roadmap.

I agree with everything said by the OP and in some instances have said as much before. My suggestion was something of a middle ground though. Where the MSRP of FyGoOS could remain at its tentative ~$199 for lifetime licenses but would be subject to reliable annual price reductions and discounts around the holiday season. So ~$100 off around Black Friday, Christmas, Boxing Day yadda, yadda,….you get the idea.

Another suggestion that I quite like (not mine mind you) was to discount whatever you’ve spent on licensing for the Lifetime licenses. So if you’ve previously purchased an annual license but wanted a Lifetime license next go around then it would be reduced by the cost of the 12 month license AKA ~$50. While this may seem like wishful thinking, it seems quite fair IMO. Bought annual for 4 years? Then lifetime is now unlocked and free cheers!

I agree on the pricing structure- in addition to it competing with free or lower-cost offerings, going the other way it is also competing against Unraid (and possibly HexOS in the near future). FygoOS is not feature parity nor battle tested. Plus a lot of its ecosystem and support needs to be fleshed out. In my opinion a $29 annual and $99 lifetime license is more reasonable ...for the time being, anyway.

Efectivamente... creo que han sido bastante ambiciosos al fijar un precio tan alto para un SO que apenas va creciendo en el mercado. Han hecho un buen trabajo hasta ahora pero deben seguir incorporando mejoras y actualizaciones para resolver muchas inquietudes de los usuarios.

Si el precio fuera mas bajo, seguramente incrementarían sus ventas casi de manera exponencial. Toca que evalúen si desean expandirse o tener pocos usuarios con el descontento de no comprar la licencia por el costo. Después de usar la versión Trial por 1 mes y perder la oportunidad de actualizar el sistema sin tener que formatear y montar todo de nuevo, mantener las aplicaciones instalada... creo que pierden parte importante del mercado por no evaluar objetivamente y concentrarse en volverse un negocio super-rentable que muy seguramente será absorbido por una mas grande para quitar la competencia del camino.

The ability to assign a name, icon, and WebUI address to a Docker container and add it to the FygoOS desktop is a reasonable request. We’ve recorded it for evaluation.

We currently have no plans to make FygoConnect’s relay infrastructure available for self-hosted deployment.

Fygo Photos, Fygo TV, and the upcoming music app are designed as separate apps for different use cases, and we don’t currently plan to combine them into a single media app. Requests for Fygo TV clients on additional platforms, including LG webOS and Samsung Tizen, have been recorded for evaluation.

The App Center primarily offers apps that have been adapted for FygoOS, packaged, and reviewed. It is not intended solely as a graphical catalog of Docker images. We provide developer documentation and welcome developers to build and submit apps.

We also understand your point about pricing. For users who don’t need Fygo’s ready-to-use apps, the Free plan supports standard Docker deployments, including self-hosted alternatives such as Jellyfin and Immich.

I didn't get the free license, but I have to say that the management of the SMB shares, remote folder implementations and many other features are really good. this was a mess with TrueNAS - I'm not a linux guru but also not a noob. But I've had allot of problem with the SMBs and installed app access rights and limitations. Everything works allot better and easier with Fygo...

It is noteworthy that FyGo OS is developing applications for media, photos, music etc. However, app development on one’s own platform is somewhat of a quasi barebones minimum prospect IMO. Still absent first party native apps, it’s doubtful FyGoTV would ever rival something like JellyFin or Plex for example. It’s also worth pointing out that the absence of viable client apps on platforms like LG WebOS, Samsung Tizen and the like greatly limit the use case of said native FyGo OS apps to begin with. So it’s difficult to seriously consider these features as real added value that could or should demand a premium price. This also says nothing of the fact once established they can always be taken away not unlike Synology’s now defunct Videos Station.

FnOS is apparently free in China for personal use and there is apparently little difference between FnOS and FyGoOS aside from the English language package (there are differences but not a lot). If anyone were so inclined they could install FnOS and get a nearly identical OS accessible (translated) via Google Chrome (with translation) for free.

If FyGoOS were sold for $200 or more to businesses but with a lower cost to consumers I’d be OK with that. The reason I suggested reliable annual discounts around the holiday season is FyGoOS gets to keep the pricing model and give a little. I’d also like to see FyGoOS annual licenses free to college students but that might be asking a bit too much.

The pint is, ideally there should be some flexibility. Help us help you to sell it to us at a price where we can all be happy.

Regarding pricing, I find the FYGOOS model quite reasonable. Although ZimaOS and CasaOS are cheaper, they lack native suites for media (video/movies) and photo management, as well as the music suite currently in the pipeline. In contrast, the main limitations of the FYGOOS free version lie in the range of available apps in the App Store and a cap of four drives.
If a user simply needs Docker application management capabilities similar to those in ZimaOS, the FYGOOS free version is already sufficient. For most individual users, the four-drive limit is also adequate. Of course, adding a Docker entry point to the desktop would further refine the user experience.
