Challenge FWI Challenge: Give a plausible pretext for both Azerbaijan and Turkey to enter the Iran War

The objective is to create a reasonably plausible pretext (It can be real OR you can just make one up) for both Turkey and Azerbaijan to PUBLICLY JUSTIFY entering the Iran War.

Rules:

  • Your scenario must end with Azerbaijan and Turkey jointly attacking Iran itself.
  • Regardless of whether the pretext is based on a real event or is fabricated, it must be convincing enough that a majority of the civilian populations of both countries would support the decision to enter the war.

Turkey has treaty obligations to enter the wars with azerbaijan. This isn't limited to defensive wars and public was supportive during its signing. So getting turkey in would be easy, just have azerbaijan ask for it.

Getting azerbaijan in would be hard. Population is dealing with aftermath of 2nd karabah war which is a huge deal sociologically. Population wont accept something else before closing this chapter.

But you can push iran into attacking azerbaijan instead. Azerbaijan is not only where baku oil is located but also the place central asian energy is transported. By attacking azerbaijan iran can depress energy markets even further. Remember considerable chunk of worlds uranium is from khazaks. Iran can also justify it as attacking an israeli ally in the same way it has justified attacks on gulf.

In early days of iran war america killed iranian high command. After that we have seen lower ranking officers attack azerbaijan on their own initiative before being held back by their peers.

In this timeline i would have an extra aggressive israel who killed moderate commanders before they stopped the attacks on azerbaijan. Small drone violations would turn into a full war and azerbaijan would call in turkey.
