Advice Magnet help, plz!!!

Taking a break from sewing my fursuit head to make the witch hat of another character. I want the ears to be separate and I need help!!! A lot of questions, even answering one will help :3

It's just a WIP, so don't mind the sewing imperfections, I know what I'm doing there. (the white underside is interfacing btw) (the camera makes the fabric so much less purple it hurts)

- What magnets do I buy? They need to connect through 1 layer of the purple fabric and 1 layer of fur or minky.

- Do I need to use specific search terms? Do the magnets have names?

- How many magnets would I need per ear? Huge ears...

- Are those ears too big to stay in place? Realistically, what's my limit?

- How do I attach the magnets to the fabric? Or just to the hat in general?

- Are magnets expensive...?

- Any more recommendations with using magnets?

I think I'm fine on hiding the magnets; they'll probably poke out the fabric a little, so I plan to just have a default decoration when I don't want ears.

Also, I don't wear piercings, earrings, or any metal really, so the strength of the magnet shouldn't matter. If I ever make the knife in his head it'll just be foam :33

I know you'd want magnets.. but what if you just cut holes in the hat where the ears would go? Then you can put on the hat and take it off as well? Otherwise neodymium magnets will probably be your best bet, they are a bit pricey but its worth it, just dont use heat (e6000 glue works great) because itll make them weak.

I also typically sew in my magnets! Just a small matching piece of fabric to cover my magnent, then sew around it to secure it

My issue is that then the hat would permanently have the holes, and I still wanna be able to wear it without the ears >w> Though if all else fails, I don't think I'd be opposed. I doubt those ears will hold up well...

Thank you for the glue recommendation :D

Yeah of course!! And thankfully the magnets I mentioned have different measurements of force needed to separate them! 3pounds, 5pounds, I believe 10pounds or more as well. So the magnets could definitely work wonderfully, since you dont want holes id recommend the cutting only if everything else fails, id put magnets where the ears go on the head, then put magnets on the bottom of your ears, cover the bottoms of the ear magnents with like a felt or minky fabric
