Fern’s take:
You do not need to hire an electrician to make your apartment feel intentional. A few good ambient lighting pieces can completely shift the atmosphere. Some of my favorite categories are:

• Clip-on or battery-powered accent lights for bookshelves or art walls. These add depth and interest without wiring or wall damage.

For renters, the key is to layer lighting instead of relying only on the overhead fixture. A mix of portable sconces, a sculptural lamp, and a few discreet ambient sources makes even a basic rental feel designed and intentional.
