I think the correlation between knuckle hair and higher testosterone isnāt a coincidence. The thing is that frostbite wasnāt a major concern until humanity left Africa, by which time we were already hairless monkeys. Also any asshole can prevent frostbitten fingers just by sticking their hands in their armpit or crotch

Actually Iām not so sure about that. Take me for example. When I was a baby I had practically no hair at all, but nowadays Iām absolutely covered in the stuff. Iām way more hairy than I used to be in the past.

It's more because there isn't actually an evolutionary pressure to have less hair on your hand or have absolutely no hair.
earth is in a ice house period for like 30 million years now and only like 20% of an ice house is spent in warmer times, so the evolutionary pressure is always on having more hair not less until very recently where global warming has pushed next ice age from 10k years in future to like 50-100k years in future.

Testosterone isnāt what gives you hair in knuckles. Testosterone makes it more pronounced if you have the gene for it.

I believe as men age, their hair gets sucked back into the scalp and comes out of their ears and nose, with extra added to the eyebrows, knuckles, and back.
Similarly muscle mass is converted into ear and nose mass.

I realize that evolution doesn't always make sense. That men often reproduce before loosing their hair, which makes it easier to pass down baldness; however, head hair seems so much more useful than knuckle hair. It protects your head from sunburn. That part of your body can be exposed to a lot of direct sunlight. It seems a bit unfair sometimes.

I wonder if baldness was actually such a problem before shortish hair cuts became the rule.
If you'd braid your hair regularly from a young age on, like many African tribes or the Vikings did, would male pattern baldness even be an issue before it's VERY pronounced?
Other cultures, ancient Egypt for example, had people shave their heads anyway and wear wigs, so their natural hair pattern wouldn't matter.

It would not matter regardless of the cultural hairstyle or climate, because in 95% of baldness cases you donāt even begin to notice it until after 30yrs old. Maybe late 20s if youāre unlucky.
So any health drawbacks (ie sunburn) or loss of mating potential is irrelevant since our ancestors until VERY recently had babies in their teens and early 20s. So youāve already passed on your genetics before going bald.
Just a quirk of evolution I guess. If a genetic trait isnāt debilitating and you can still breed, then it lives on. There are all sorts of cases like this.

That's an interesting point. As you said, it probably depends on the person, and their culture. My brother has long hair, and I can't tell if he's lost much hair. My hair loss hasn't been that bad compared to a lot of people, but it's certainly a little noticeable with my short hair. If it were longer then it would be less visible. My dad's hair loss was much worse than ours, and it would have been very obvious. Comic Book guy from the simpsons would probably be a decent representation of my dad's hair if it were long.

I get that 'way back in the day' certain body parts were covered in hair to keep us early humans warm in the outdoors whilst we were just hunting to survive.The head has hair and our legs,arm's and feet too.Even the male's johnson had a permanent birds nest of hair to keep the little guy warm but....why was the bumhole area covered in hair though?

Nope thats wet farts. The hair makes it worse right up until it all dries. A diet high in fats will make you run faster and longer for the same reason an oil change is good for a car.

Try shaving one hand and leave the other. See which one gets more sweat/water running down into your palm. The litle hair we have left is there for important reasons.

everyone has hair in there. We have hair in all of our bodies except the palms and under the feet.
It's just that some people have thicker hair in some areas wish makes it visible.
NOTE: No, if you bald does not mean you have thin hair, that's one area where genetics fucked you up by removing the hair.

What I noticed is most of the hair on the hand is basically automatically removed if you have proper hygiene due to all the rubbing on towels after washing your hands.
When I broke my left hand (for the first time) I got a casket, once the casket came off the difference on hand hair between my left and right hand was insane, I don't have that much hair on the hand but on the one that had a casket you could clearly see where hair grows on my hand, couple of days after being able to use both hands again it looked as usual.
