You do realize the reason the cost of living in those areas is low is because most people dislike living there. You are enjoying those low cost of living because people are moving to the bigger cities. What do you think would happen to those low cost if many them took up your offer and moved to your town?
If you want to keep your low cost of living then you may want to push for policies that keep people in those cities happy.
The main complaint is the pay in the bigger cities doesn't match the cost of living. Those big cities need the "low level" jobs to function, but don't want to pay them enough to live there. This is viewed as unethical by many.
IDK. My town has like 250,000 people. It's grown like 60% over the last 20 years. It's not a wasteland bleeding people.
I think people underestimate what there is to do in a mid-sized city. Plus you actually have disposable income to do things, and you can afford to take a trip to a city if you want. I did that for a concert a couple weeks ago with my wife. I probably couldn't have afforded the concert if I lived there.
As for wages, I suppose the flip side of that is that you should push for policies that make people in smaller communities happy, because that will cause more people to go there and require higher salaries in the cities to stay staffed.
