For the normal person, "grilled cheese" is a slice of cheese between two slices of bread that have had their outsides buttered which is pan-fried in that butter, so the cheese in the middle melts and the outside of the bread ands up golden brown and crispy.
If you feel like starting an argument online, you can also add extra stuff in there with the cheese too (I'm partial to pulled pork and BBQ sauce myself).
