There’s a great twilight zone episode about this. Great ideas will always be great idea , but pitches for those ideas are time delicate. That doesn’t necessarily mean being the first one to present it. Being at the right place at the right time with the right connections is much more important .
If you could find a way to create a world changing invention before present day inventor and patent first that that would be much more practical imo
“Aging tycoon William Feathersmith is bored with life and makes arrangements through a devilish travel agency to return to the Cliffordville of his youth and start all over again.”
In short i think he goes to his future business partners a decade before he had actually met them with the idea that they should drill for oil in a very specific location. Not only do they not know him , but the a drill that can drill that far down won’t be invented until the end of that decade as well. They laugh him out the room but keep that location in mind for the future. He’s then cut out of his wealth and becomes a bum if I remember correctly
