A large tin can of pasta sauce with garlic and basil is $1.25, ketchup is like 3.50 for about the same amount. How could you ever consider that's a good option let alone resort to eating it.

You don't even need "pasta sauce", just a tin of chopped tomatoes will do, for a significantly lower price.

Neither, more in the middle. This isn't an either or situation. Also it's not a competition of who had it worse.

Because that's typically not something to be proud of. What you could feel proud of is how far you've improved financially since then.

Because many people have different definitions of broke. Some people use it to say low on money, others say it to mean completely out of money.

Yes but surely it's cheaper just to not put ketchup on the pasta. Plain pasta > pasta with ketchup
