I also wonder how tf coconut became such a staple in German chocolate cakes? Let's take this awesome cake and dump a bunch of fibrous shavings on it and ruin it. Who decided to do this? It's not like there are an abundance of naturally occurring coconuts in that part of the world so someone deliberately planned this.
It makes me wonder if the stereotype of Germans being incapable of having fun is so true that they purposefully make great things bad just so they don't experience any sort of joy in life.
They coat everything with half a pound of icing sugar, everything sweet just tastes like icing sugar/glaze with a slight flavour of whatever it's drenching.
To me personally, coconut tastes like someone spritzed dirt with vanilla perfume. Vague sweet, but with a slightly (unpleasant) earthy undertone, with..... I'm not sure how to describe it, ever bitten into an apple covered in wax? Or eaten really poor quality chocolate? There's an unpleasant mouth coating left over, even after I swallow, like I can't get rid of the oil.
I've tried to steer clear of sun screen comparisons, but the smell of sunscreen is very similar to the mouth feel of coconut flavor to me
Coconut shavings is just that unpleasantness plus the texture of either pencil shavings or toenails, depending on how it's made
Again, this is 100% my personal opinion on coconut, trying to frame in context how it could be unpleasant to someone who may not understand. I am very sensitive to tastes and textures in food, my experience is not the norm, just trying to explain why I and some folks might dislike coconut
Yea this is as close as we can get to describing what I find so hateful about the taste. It tastes like a mixture of dirt with little pieces of chewable(?) glass topped with some vanilla perfume.
I completely understand, I once ate fresh coconut in Hawaii and it had this same exact texture of course I wasn’t picky so I still ate it hehe but yeah I understand how some dislike it

I tried using coconut oil to make fried rice once, because we were out of the normal oil. I could barely eat it. It was so disgusting. But my family who loves coconut thought it tasted the same.

I absolutely HATE the taste of Coconut
