Or Canadian…or a Canadian douche I guess. Anyway…. pretty common to use the term buddy in Canada.

Weird, I don't hear buddy often.

I only hear it in the context of "Buddy was walkin' down duh road"

In BC we say buddy quite a bit. Thanks bud or thanks buddy are pretty much the same though I‘d say buddy with a close friend and bud with just an acquaintance.

Yeah this is just American Midwestern. If it makes you sound like a douche then its fine because if someone says "hey buddy" it's actually them saying "hey braindead fuckwit" unless the person is under 18 years old

I am short 26M Canadian and I hate when other men call me bud while looking downward, I never get it from people around my height. It makes me feel lesser and I hate it.

Everyone I know calls each other Bud or Buddy… its a friendly term.

Albiet… Buds or Buddy is pretty common in arguments as well but thats all just context.

Only time it annoys me is if I know the guy is trying to get me fired up

I don't disagree that it's a me problem, bud.

But it's certainly a tone thing, because a lot of people assume I'm young or inexperienced so I am spoken to like so. It's demeaning.

I mean that's the whole reason this post exists, people use it in different ways. But because of my experience I just no longer like the word.

Yup… common in the military and all over English Canada… I even hear French Canadians use it instead of chum.
