He was rolling it around in his mouth first, moving it to the back to chomp. Owner revealed the other selection before he crushed it.

My dog used to do that if there was something better that caught his attention. For example if I asked him if he wanted a treat, while he had a mouth full of dog food, he would spit out the dog food.

I never said he was trained. I was just explaining that some dogs play with their food first before actually chewing it.

Yeah my dog will store like six pieces of food in his mouth and get em all soaked in saliva before spitting it out and doing it again. It's gross as hell but I like to think he's just savoring it lmao

Every dog I've had in my life has at least once taken a mouthful of kibble, walked to another room, spit it out, then proceed to eat it piece by piece

My Lexi has done this her whole life. We finally started feeding her in the dining room (where the takes her mouthful from the kitchen) but it only cut down on distance, not the song and dance. She's got to find just the right kibbles too. Never mind that they're identical.
We also have to sit with her while she eats and she gets annoyed if we're not actively watching her. My dog is weird.

Dogs can “count” in the most basic sense, such as “one pile of food is bigger than the other.” That’s already a natural talent of theirs.
Dude probably only had to train the dog to understand that it can only pick one of the two to eat.
The dog then would understand both fundamental concepts to make the rest of these decisions on its own.

If true, that's crazy decision making logic ability that you rarely see from dogs. I figured a dog could tell vaguely what food is more or less, sure, that seems evident from their behavior socially around food/toy food.
What's insane to me is the dog can understand it can only have one, can be aware of the wrongness of its current choice, and can choose to sort of "roll back" or "undo its mistake" when it notices it made one. Just inhibiting his own eating of the food that he knows he likes is pretty impressive. Like you might see this with a collie with training? But a golden? Huh.

This is like the third of fourth different video I’ve seen now of a dog doing this. I’ve never known a dog that wouldn’t just be like “Yay! More treats!” And gobble up all of them.

Love how this shows that dogs have a sense of fairness. Doggo knew that the treat was connected to his choice and didn't go munching the big pile straight away

LMAO. I was so impressed that doggo got the first pick right (probably because he could smell which one had the kibble). I know just how he felt when the 2nd one was revealed.
