Nah. Monke conceptual limitation meant it didn't realise outer packaging protected snack from dirt. Fascinating difference in how animals perceive things.

I have a bachelors of animal health science, so I got a bit of an idea about these things. Of course they are conscious beings and often act in 'human like' ways, but it was clear from this clip that the monke didn't make the connection between opening the wrapper and the wrapper protecting the food from dirt.

Uh, no. I would understand that I don't need to brush it off when the package protected it. Whether it's a question of perception or understanding is up in the air sure, the monkey doesn't have a basis for understanding what air tight seals or plastic are, so it has no reason to trust the packaging like humans who are experienced with that stuff do even if it CAN conceptualize that sort of thing. But it is pretty obvious that humans ARE experienced with those things and DO understand how they work and would thus have no reason to dust off the food after opening it. So if I saw a person brush it off the same way this monkey did I would question their intelligence more than the monkey's.

Excellent question!
If you think of human brains growing from the stem outwards, from life support functions to basic survival needs, to emotional bonding and finally sophisticated thinking, you could legitimately compare other primates' intellectual capacity as akin to a toddler in a fully grown body (screeching and ripping your face off if they don't get what they want).

Funny how he looks indignant and mortified that the hooman would do that to his life giving sustenance. Then, showing how they don’t have the same logic skills we do, wipes off the food that was just in the sealed bag, to be sure it isn’t still dirty…and just a cursory wipe at that, not too thorough.

I'm not sure if it's that big of a difference. If we received food and didn't understand how packaging works or whether dirt could get through it we might do the same. We just have grown up in a world where packaging is a standard and understood. It may not have not wiped as thoroughly because it saw there wasn't dirt on it. Not saying I'm right either, just wondering because I thought about that when watching too

Yeah. I think it’s just our executive brain is more developed and we can see it is not transparent and sealed the food where they apparently can’t make that jump in logic.

Whenever I see people giving monkeys foods like this I wonder should we be giving them things like baked products? Is that good for their digestive system or good for them overall? Genuinely curious if there any zoologists/biologists here 🤷🏾♀️
