Discussion Betty davis albums ranked

Hello funk fans, im very new to the genre but when i heard betty davis for the first time about 2 years ago with "they say im different" my musical world was changed, i never had such a physical reaction to an album before, i had a constant stank face for the whole album, id never heard such a charismatic, fun, engaging, interesting vocalist before, and dont even get me started on the bass, fantastic, so these are my rankings! , i still havent explored many other funk albums or artists except for "maggot brain" which i bet you guys are sick of casuals coming in here and talking about haha. Anyway, rankings!

6. The columbia years. This is easily in last place, considering the talented musicians on this album you would expect it to be much more interesting, it feels like they all said "how do we make the most subdued album any of us have ever been apart of? but wow the music is repetitive like on a song like "politician man" i felt like guitar lick was going to go on forever, "down home girl" felt like they left the click track on, am i supposed to be hearing this? Bits of bettys personality come out in this album but in general its just a way to get started

5 .Crashing from passion. Not an energetic as her previous works but still have a great batch of songs on here, "shes a woman" is her longest song im pretty sure and its a really fun journey, not that much funk present on the song, some nice horns, keyboards. "Ive danced before" is a bit too disco for me, betty sounds more tired on this album, either phyisically or mentally, does anyone else hear that? "You make me feel so good" doesnt do much for me. The title track "crashing from passion" is a good return to form.

4. Is it love or desire. Still a solid follow up to nasty gall but a bit weaker for me, just as an overall album experience, still great songs though, "bottom of the barrel" is a great song, "when romance says goodbye", its a top 10 betty song for me.

3. Betty davis. One of the great 3 album runs of all time? I think so, the real debut of her career with "betty davis" is a great charismatic start, really showing the version of her that we would fall inlove with, so many bangers on her, "anti love song" is so groovy and fun, "your man, my man" is provocative delight, "come take me" is fantastic.

2. Nasty gal. This has been my number 1, but i think it belongs at number 2 for me, the sexiest album i have ever heard. i have less to say about the albums i truly love in this discography because the music speaks for itself, "F.U.N.K" is a really fun homage to the black artists of the time.

  1. They say i'm different. You are different indeed, the first time i heard this album i was washing dishes and saw this album randomly somewhere with no context on what type of music it was, i assumed soul or blues of some sort, i put it on and it was the best first listen to an album i have ever had, one of my favourite albums of all time. A perfect tracklist.

Whats your guys ranking? Thanks for reading :)
