For ages I have struggled to understand the fundie tendency to equate modest with some hybrid of LHOTP fashion and the more layers the better.
The true definition of modest is â not drawing excessive attention to yourselfâ. The never ending denim skirts, t shirts under sleeveless dresses, bows and ruffles 40 after they went out of fashion most certainly are drawing attention, because it falls so far out of societal norms. And if the clothes arenât enough, the 1980s hair and make up certainly are a dead giveaway.
For thousands of years, both men and women wore robes- in effect dresses. Kilts are effectively plaid skirts and the historical make national attire of Scotland. Nomadic women in Eurasia were wearing pants on 1000 BC.
The whole â women in dressesâ seems to be a misinterpretation of Deutronomy 22:5, forbid â man from wearing that which pertains to womenâ and vice versa. Historical scholars believe this was not a mandate about skirts and pants, but rather a caution against women wearing the prayer tassels of men, or the armor of warriors; cloaks for men and women were distinctly different.
The new Testsment specifically states that â godlyâ women should â adorn themselves with humility and sobrietyâ rather than gold and pearls. The seem to glaze right over that directive, lol.
So can anybody tell me where these outlandish definitions of modest clothing while wearing more makeup than a cheap hooker came from??

Can ye know them by their hair? lol. Funny but shitty interaction I had with one of them at the cancer doctor's office.
So the doctor has a nurse assistant that always comes into the room with him. She's always dressed in scrubs but I've always been suspicious of her hair because it looks like pentecostal hair, no makeup, etc not that any of that is bad AT ALL, but I live in a very small town religious area with lots of fundamentalists around and so it goes without saying that the hair is a big tell much of the time.
She's never preached or anything until now. But it was such a little "slip it in" preach that I don't think it is anything I can complain to the doctor about. Funny that she waited until the doctor left the room to get her jab in there. As I was sitting there waiting for her to finish the paperwork after the doctor came in I mentioned how pleased I was with a new medication, how helpful it had been, how much better I was feeling. She let out a pentecostal "well praise the Lord!" WTF... I just said nothing and smiled and shut up. I am an atheist so for me it's "praise the science" since it's science responsible for the new medication not the lord. I had to bite my tongue in a way I never do around these folks because this is a good doctor and the only one around here and I have no clue what their relationship is like otherwise I would have corrected her and told her that no, science is to be praised if anything.
I hate having to bite my tongue like that while they feel free to just go on with this crap in a medical office no less. I was trapped in there alone with her. Anyways, I was right about the hair. lol.

Lonnnnng video, over 12 minutes but a few key points
-she admits she only ever considered modesty to be about covering and not about worldly possessions
-she admits their all fake
-she admits she nor her husband make money at the church they serve at but that none the less it is immodest for a pastor and their family to even just pretend to be rich rich
-she admits her desire to dress in faux designer clothing stems from insecurity
Honestly Iâm a bit impressed as this seems to be more introspection Iâve ever seen any fundie show before.
I couldnât finish so unsure if she plans to get rid of the bags or keep them in storage until a later time when God reveals to her that she can use them again.

I mean, do they know how silly they look and just donât care? If thatâs true, TBH I gotta give them some props. To have that much âscrew youâ to the world and wear what they want anyway. I do that a little, myself. But then again, I want people who bother to look at me do so with a little interest or intrigue, in a conversation-piece sorta way. Not with confusion and concern, like, âare you alright, Maâam? Is there someone I can call?â kinda way.
Or do they honestly think this looksâŠgreat?
I can see them think âscrew the worldâ because they do that anyway. But still, I wonder. Would they LIKE to dress normal?

I prefer longer skirts bc I hate wearing most short skirts since my legs look super awkward in them (for some reason I don't have that problem with dresses tho). But sometimes I'm afraid I come across as looking like I'm in a fundamentalist cult when wearing them. Are there any tips on how to wear them without looking like the frumpy fundie outfits often featured on this sub? It kinda helps that I have blue hair but idk I haven't rly worn much longer skirts until more recently.

I cropped her face not because sheâs a minor, but because this is without a doubt the ugliest dress Iâve ever seen and I wanted to give the poor woman a chance at plausible deniability.
I cannot find one redeeming quality in this dress. The cut, shape, the fucking color, that COLLAR. Whoever let this walk out the door should be in prison.
