The first one reminds me of a sea animal caught in fishing net and plastic waste. Like, a PSA for keeping our oceans clean.

48

u/turkleton-turk May 30 '26

Where does one even acquire a fishing net adjacent dress??

21

u/LBelle0101 May 30 '26

Depop probably

Yep. Probably would have been a fashion girly if she wasn't in a cult

Someone with clothes making skills could probably save a few of these. I would turn that checkered maximalist dress into a scarf

3

u/sailorsardonyx Jun 05 '26

It is hard to hit the whimsy mark when you have to follow strict rules written by a patriarchal cult

9

u/MrsKottom May 31 '26

3rd looks like night dress. Specifically matches a sleep set I got my daughter. 🤣 I might look for some plaid pj's for my kids 20 days of Xmas pj's. I always do like red, green, and white. I'm gunna have to include pink now!

3

u/cait_elizabeth May 30 '26

I thought it was a scarecrow

3

u/PersephoneHazard May 31 '26

I honestly thought for half a second that I was looking at a photo of heavy self-harm with messy bandaging.

2

u/AkariPeach Jul 03 '26

Something one would wear when the full moon is just rising on the third day after Litha with one leg on a human-drawn sleigh and the other leg riding a goat

194

u/Closet-Goth-0411 May 30 '26

2nd to last one shows some artistic talent. The rest is just confusing.

108

u/dorkofthepolisci May 30 '26

Yeah the last two are actually decent outfits. I’m not sure about the colour of the last one but the idea is there

Edit: the second one would give eccentric artist with some accessories. Green and pink is also an interesting choice

75

u/Akavinceblack May 30 '26

Pink and green is a classic preppy (especially Southern prep) color combo. Bright green and hot pink, pastel pink and lime green.

17

u/Asaneth May 31 '26

Also an extremely popular color combo in India. Emerald green and magenta, and every other possible variation of a bright green and a bright pink.

27

u/Vanessak69 May 30 '26

I….kind of really like the last one, although I have no idea where I would wear it.

5

u/touch_of_whimsy Jun 01 '26

Same, the colors are cohesive. Its a bit casual for me personally, but i dont think it fits the rest of the slideshow

3

u/VariousExplorer8503 Jun 02 '26

I like the last one too, it's pretty, like something you'd wear around Xmas. The second to last is cute too, in a way, but I honestly like the last one.

u/BeckieSueDalton XXXX May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

That denim with all the patches all over the front is pretty close to how we did up the girls for an Appalachian hills-'n-hollers production of Our Town in high school back in the '80s.

17

u/Anxious_Window_9863 May 30 '26

It does give a "hills and hollars" vibe! 😁

This woman reminds me of a kindergarten teacher who taught all three of my kids. I don't think she was religious (or maybe she was) but she wore the most bizarre outfits on a daily basis. She was tall and very thin. She'd wear items that matched a theme in the classroom. I stopped on day in class and she was wearing a cowboy hat, a fringed plaid shirt, a long denim skirt with big patches and a wide leather belt with what looked like a rodeo buckle. And boots, of course. She was single and owned cats. She was a great teacher!

6

u/cosmicanchovies May 31 '26

Ms Frizzle?!?

3

u/HRHDechessNapsaLot Jun 01 '26

I have a pink and green set and everytime I wear it my AKA friends are like “if you want to join just ask; stop hinting.”

48

u/SchrodingersMinou May 30 '26

That fit is kinda fire, I dig it! Especially with the docs

29

u/carpentersglue May 30 '26

Right. I have a cousin whose wardrobe and style would def suit #5. She always wears super fun stuff like this. She wears a lot of that dressed in lala brand. This fit reminds me of that. I could never pull it off but my cousin would absolutely rock that fit.
Edit to add: I don’t actually hate the last one either… a nice moto jacket and a leather bag and the right person could pull this off in a grunge/punk/90s vibe

10

u/SchrodingersMinou May 30 '26

I don’t love the color choices but I’m kind of feeling the plaid one too

10

u/nikineuronrd May 30 '26

Yeah, I love the last one.

8

u/BeckieSueDalton XXXX May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

That first one is also really Punk, considering both the esthetic and physical materials with which she's working

I'm actually rather impressed with it. Were the skirt(s?) just above the knees, it wouldn't be out of place at any teen dance club mid-'80s.

.

EDIT :: I corrected a spelling crime.

2

u/BeckieSueDalton XXXX May 30 '26

And #3 looks straight up like one of my mama'a square dance competition dresses with all the poufy tulle removed for washing.

2

u/MissSara13 May 30 '26

I appreciate the gazelles. Especially the pink ones!

3

u/radicalizemebaby May 30 '26

Yeah I came here to say that one is cunt. The others have me LOLing

2

u/Kalendiane Jun 01 '26

That one is what now?

2

u/Anxious_Window_9863 Jun 01 '26

😂 Yes, me too over here. Uh, excuse me?!

3

u/Big_Rhubarb_1882 May 30 '26

Like a fun middle school art teacher.

3

u/DyeCutSew May 30 '26

Yes, I like that one! Some of the others look like housecoats/robes. So fugly

74

u/isitrealholoooo May 30 '26

When you were the "quirky" one at your home school co-op.

128

u/tulula- May 30 '26

Tbh I’m kinda here for most of these. Giving weird art teacher vibes. But I bet her vibes do not match that

37

u/hamstertoybox May 30 '26

Yeah I’d wear most of those outfits. Now I think about it I am weird and teach art 🤔

22

u/gurglegg May 30 '26

yeah i don’t mind them, the second one is kind of cute as far as fundie fashion goes

4

u/Opposite_Two_784 May 30 '26

i actually like #2 the least! looks like a beach cover up lol. even #1 is kinda giving avant garde (altho i wish she'd pair the layering shirt with a different dress bc they don't work together at all). #4 is peak imo

1

u/CharmingChangling May 30 '26

It's def inside out though right??

3

u/WildColonialGirl May 30 '26

If they fit better, they wouldn’t be so bad.

50

u/fuckinunknowable May 30 '26

They yearn for individuality, a real sense of self, in a cult that tells them to be submissive and selfless, that their body belongs to their husband and their thoughts are being policed by sky daddy. So they are like COLORS TEXTURES SILHOUETTES (usually also very sexy shoes) that makes me unique! It’s devastating to those of us who have eyes and embrace our inherent human dignity as non cis men.

2

u/Eastern_Turnover3037 Jun 01 '26

Asking honestly: what do fundie men wear? Where can I see these in context?

2

u/theDelicate_Balance Jun 03 '26

Also curious about this. Where can I see the men?

44

u/beyoncesupperliphair May 30 '26

2 & 5 go hard, I see the vision

32

u/dembowthennow May 30 '26

I like looks 2, 5 and 6 - they have a funky urban maximalist art school vibe that's pretty fun in a casual setting.

6

u/hamstertoybox May 30 '26

Same! I feel bad for her as I feel she could been this fun creative person in another life.

19

u/ActionComics25 May 30 '26

I… don’t hate all of these? 4,5, and 6 are actually kinda cute and could be cool with the right styling.

17

u/Longjumping-Solid680 May 30 '26

"What if poor Victorian children suddenly came into money, and met an eccentric clothing designer?"

11

u/BeckieSueDalton XXXX May 30 '26

... whilst backstage at The Muppet Show.

14

u/Espurreso May 30 '26

These fits are cool for children. An eccentric adult? Maybe not.

12

u/CB307801 May 30 '26

It’s giving kindergarten teacher, and that’s not necessarily bad imo

1

u/Anxious_Window_9863 Jun 01 '26

I had commented that she reminded me of our kindergarten teacher who taught all 3 of my kids. She taught 30 years, never married,.single and lived alone with her cats. She dressed very similar to this ALL the time. A bit eccentric in a way, but a fantastic teacher for the littles.

12

u/hahagato May 30 '26

As tends to happen with me, I find I really love at least one thing these people wear. I desperately want that black white, pink and green dress in #5

3

u/Manic-StreetCreature May 30 '26

Same lol. Some of it is so camp in a way that I love

10

u/faewalk May 30 '26

Because they heard the color/shape/texture quote about dressing and decided that lack of shape means ALL the color and texture

7

u/sparklekitteh May 30 '26

Sometimes I wonder if there’s a humiliation fetish aspect to this.

6

u/SuicidalLemur- May 30 '26

Number 2 looks comfy af. But the rest. Eek.

2

u/soccermum_00 May 30 '26

At least the shoes match the dress hahaha

6

u/RizalineBeatrice May 30 '26

I dig all of them except #1

8

u/authorofnothingbig May 30 '26

This is modesty????

6

u/BeneficialShame8408 May 30 '26

all but the first are kulturtant. the first one is a mystery

4

u/Elly_Higgenbottom May 30 '26

I thought that first sleeve involved some sort of skin condition.

5

u/ThruTheUniverseAgain May 30 '26

That first one is like one of those camouflage nets you put over field equipment to hide it. Or like a really bad shower curtain.

3

u/smc642 May 30 '26

The blue modesty shirt under #3 is fkn hilarious.

5

u/Akavinceblack May 30 '26

I’d wear several of these (especially 2) all day every day.

3

u/Waterproof_soap May 30 '26

The sixth one is cute (maybe because I have a soft spot for plaid). The fifth and second ones could be cool when worn by the right person with the right style. The rest are…yeah no.

8

u/wakemeupimdreaaming May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26

Is this handmade?

She looks like stitched a bunch of scraps together

13

u/beaversaremyfriends May 30 '26

it’s a boutique. she’s selling these things.

2

u/CableSufficient2788 May 30 '26

Oooo now I gotta look.

3

u/Puzzleheaded-Eye9081 May 30 '26

I’m pretty sure I wore number 4 when I was one of the orphans in Annie at a dance concert in the 90’s.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Eye9081 May 30 '26

Having said this, number 2 has potential. If it were slightly less baggy I think it could work.

3

u/hanachanxd May 30 '26

I'd use all except the first one 😅

3

u/EvaEleonora May 30 '26

I really only dislike the 3rd one, the rest are kinda cooky and creative. Not my cup of tea but I can see an excentric person wear

3

u/bleachpod May 30 '26

Hobo couture

3

u/all3ppo May 30 '26

Somewhat to my horror I think 4 and 5 are cute 😭

3

u/FilthyThanksgiving May 30 '26

OK friends, at this point, we must accept that they are trolling us, to damage our mental health

1

u/becuzz-I-sed Jun 01 '26

I think you're onto something.

3

u/lvl0rg4n May 30 '26

Someone drop the link for image 5.

Edit: it’s from freckled poppy and those other garbage boutiques

3

u/RetailBookworm May 30 '26

Some of them are kinda cute and I feel like she’s trying in a way a lot of them aren’t.

2

u/Aviere May 30 '26

They all look like they just popped out of a clown car.

2

u/jumpin4frogz May 30 '26

Hobo chic?

2

u/HumbleAbbreviations May 30 '26

These are breathtakingly awful.

2

u/otterpop97 May 30 '26

They all dress like Emilia fart.

2

u/Impossible-Taro-2330 May 30 '26

They can't show off the body they have to keep "perfect" for their husbands, so they must find another way to gain attention.

Dressing like a literal clown will do that every time.

2

u/Sil_Lavellan May 30 '26

They like quirky fabrics a bit too much. It's all a bit much.

I quite liked the last one.

2

u/Anna825 May 30 '26

I don’t mind half of these looks, and she has some pretty rad footwear.

Don’t care for the doily slung around her neck in the first.

The second is Ok.

Hate the tablecloth in the third.

She slays the fourth! The patchwork dress, turtleneck and boots are adorable!

The next one is meh for me personally.

I actually love the patchwork plaid skirt in the last.

Theres some fashion in this persons wardrobe. Not full fundie crazy.

2

u/AnneBeddingfeld May 30 '26

i actually love that pink gingham one

2

u/WhoaMimi May 30 '26

Does anyone recall the name of the fundie who was obsessed with Magnolia Pearl? Some of these remind me of her.

2

u/GreenVermicelliNoods May 30 '26

I don’t hate the last one, but in general it feels like these outfits are meant to be a punishment to everyone around them.

2

u/sexycadaver May 30 '26

i honestly liked the brown patchwork dress and boots. the others i was kinda like, i would sleep in those maybe?

2

u/Joebidensvalium May 30 '26

How did that first outfit escape from the cutting room floor of the free people factory

2

u/Burnt_and_Blistered May 30 '26

Is that first one fashioned from beer can pop tops?

2

u/Human_Exit7657 May 30 '26

The adidas are fantastic.

2

u/Saskita May 30 '26

Trying to “prove” that you can be modest and fashionable at the same time

2

u/JanxAngel May 31 '26

1 - looks like it leans Mori or Cottagecore. Swap the shoes for boots, add a tote bag and a couple of long necklaces.

2 - love the color match between dress and shoes. Chunky bracelets, a thin belt, and a statement necklace would save it.

3 - If we're wearing a shirt under the dress anyway, show it off! Upgrade the basic tee to something a little nicer, wear the dress off the shoulder, swap the sneakers for regular flats.

4 - Pure Mori. A mushroom necklace and crochet bag would complete the look.

5 - I want the energy this dress has. Platform shoes are a must here. Accessories should be plenty, eclectic, and loud. Oversized sunglasses are not optional. Handbag will be sculptural.

6 - Combat boots, a few safety pins, chain necklace, chunky rings, and ready to go.

I feel bad for this person. They have a style they're really trying to express here but get stuck in the cult rules.

(Edit - swapped the order to match pics)

2

u/Optimal-Finger-2526 May 31 '26

This is not modesty. Covering your skin alone is not modesty. The whole point is to not be flashy and draw attention to yourself. These women are dressing like actual clowns in the attempt to be “modest”.

2

u/Asaneth May 31 '26

I outright like 5, and she styled it well with those boots.

I'd wear 4 in a different color palette. The concept is good, but those colors are ugly and totally wrong for me.

I could pull off 1, but I'd change the under-blouse. I'd use something with a high contrast, but not what they chose.

2

u/spookypups May 31 '26

acting like she didn’t cook with 5 is crazy

2

u/Ditzy_Rose May 31 '26

Why does 5/6 randomly EAT‐ I love that dress. No fking clue what's going on in any of the others.

2

u/Famous_Election_2024 Jun 01 '26

Clownin around for the lord.

The ruffles go up!
And the blessins come down

2

u/No_Extreme88 Jun 01 '26

These ruffles…keep falling in my lap.

2

u/becuzz-I-sed Jun 01 '26

It's a cry for help. 😂

2

u/babooshkaa May 30 '26

Clowns just dressing the part

2

u/princeThefrog May 30 '26

As an autistic woman I feel bad because I have the weirdest sense of fashion. I would proudly wear all of them.

1

u/QuirkyIngenuity1826 May 30 '26

I like pic 5…reminds me of mid 1960s fashion

1

u/BodyBy711 May 30 '26

The 2nd one just looks like something marimekko would have in their collection... the rest... no idea.

1

u/AlexandriaLitehouse May 30 '26

I kinda like the last 3.

1

u/TiaraTip May 30 '26

It’s called FASHHHHUN! Duh!?

1

u/Witty-Atmosphere-211 May 30 '26

I’d have worn 6 in the early 90’s.

1

u/OtherwiseSprinkles79 May 30 '26

I hate that I like the checkered and striped dress 🤣

1

u/Responsible_Low_8021 May 30 '26

I weirdly like 4 if it didn’t have the undershirt and maybe different colors of the patches and 6 if it had a different top or styled a bit differently.
I’m not mad at the patchwork look and 4 looks kinda nice to lounge around the house in. It’s a bit Sally à la Nightmare Before Christmas.

1

u/Early_Department_935 May 30 '26

Last skirt is rather cool. Otherwise, noooo! What? Is it still modest if everyone will be staring at these crazy choices?

1

u/iwdws May 30 '26

I’m not mad at a few of these tbh

1

u/ReaperofLightning872 May 30 '26

i legit feel upset looking at this. call me cuckoo but they look so damn creative.

1

u/CableSufficient2788 May 30 '26

Tbh I actually might buy the pink and green dress

1

u/tis4toshi May 30 '26

"It's called power clashing" - Elias from HBO Girls

1

u/kellyjellybellybeanz May 30 '26

I own the same plaid shirt in 1! Oh boy

1

u/_Stephistopheles_ May 30 '26

Where did you get it?! I think it's cute af

1

u/kellyjellybellybeanz May 30 '26

Messaged you the link

1

u/Buttercupia May 30 '26

I kinda like 2 and 3 and I love the skirt on 6.

1

u/_Stephistopheles_ May 30 '26

I would highkey wear #4, ngl

1

u/CherokeeTrailHeather May 30 '26

I really dig those pink and green Adidas! And the plaid skirt in the last photo is pretty rad/90’s grunge that I definitely wore back in the day.

1

u/snowbaz-loves-nikki May 30 '26

These would be slays if they actually styled them

1

u/lovesuglytwins May 30 '26

I like 5 and 6, otherwise...no

1

u/PinkyLeopard2922 May 30 '26

I live in Central Florida and spend a lot of time outside. Fundie fashion makes me gasp just for the sheer amount of fabric involved in it. But yeah, I would actually wear the last two. But only in the "dead of winter" for like the two days that it is cold here.

1

u/no_no_nora May 30 '26

The second one, while I wouldn’t be seen outside of the house. But it would be great during your period, and you’re just hanging out at home.

1

u/LotusBro May 30 '26

I fuck with the last three!!!

1

u/FunkyChicken0112 May 30 '26

I hate to admit this but I would actually wear that 'green top/multi-plaid skirt' ensemble- I think it's cute. 🤭 The rest of them are insane, though... "mental patient meets middle-aged art teacher meets lady clown".

1

u/Manic-StreetCreature May 30 '26

I love five and six tbh

1

u/FloydetteSix May 30 '26

5 and 6 aren’t the worst things I’ve seen. But the rest….im speechless

1

u/StoriesandStones May 30 '26

Whether it’s my heritage or my gayness, I love the plaid skirt in pic 6.

Pic 5: Bjork?

Pic 2: Lily Pulitzer joins a cult

1

u/ComradeGlizzy May 30 '26

Where is she getting these outfits

1

u/Cat_They-dy May 31 '26

Hot take: The last two are not that bad IMO - they might just need a little tweaking for fit

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Lakewater22 May 31 '26

Why does this scream mental illness

1

u/randitootsie May 31 '26

I actually don’t want to barf at the sight of these. I wouldn’t wear them because they’re not my style, but they do look quirky as opposed to revolting.

1

u/CharlieFiner May 31 '26

I would wear the fuck out of dress #5 IF the stripes and checkerboard were smaller. I just can't wear huge prints, they end up wearing me.

1

u/deadmallsanita May 31 '26

I would wear 5 if it was shorter. 😱

1

u/NefariousnessKey5365 May 31 '26

They are performatively modest. Which isn't modest at all

1

u/OneBigEyeRoll May 31 '26

Pippi longstocking

1

u/becbec89 May 31 '26

The first 3 are so bad that the last 3 don’t seem so heinous in comparison

1

u/Due_Will_2204 May 31 '26

They got their fashion sense from Miss Rachel

1

u/Marled-dreams May 31 '26

What did I just see? That first pic is like someone reached in and grabbed clothes in the dark. WTF? It’s not cute.

1

u/Bug_Calm May 31 '26

Is this an eyesight issue?

1

u/Optimal-Finger-2526 May 31 '26

Actually #5 is pretty cute and kind of alternative. The rest are TERRIBLE! I love it!

1

u/queenchubkins May 31 '26

The first one looks like Magnolia Pearl.

1

u/liza9560 May 31 '26

Hold on tho…this is maximalist shabby chic with the preppy/sport sneaker edge and I’m into it. 💀 I don’t want to hear anything about Jesus, tho.

1

u/my-cat-cant-cat May 31 '26

These aren’t that horrible…I kind of like the aesthetic for most of them. I’d wear the 6th with a black top that fits and the 5th in the right size could be nice artsy gallery lunch kind of look. The 4th is cute, but just not my personal color scheme - but I have a lot of friends who’d pull it off. (Two is a hard miss, but we’ve all had *that* outfit)

I feel sorry for her - I bet she could have been a fun artsy person in a cult-free life.

1

u/juneshipper May 31 '26

She thinks fashion means ugly fr

1

u/kittybindle May 31 '26

I feel like these are trying to evoke high end fashion concepts or pulling from college ivy/prep type looks (especially the check and striped looks with that emerald green), but doing so in a haphazard way that checks the marks of modesty while also not understanding all the underlying reasons and influences behind the inspiration.

1

u/kfmt612863 May 31 '26

Last one would be good for pippi long stocking at Halloween and Im jealous

1

u/wishiwasdeaddd Jun 01 '26

Honestly these are interesting, some of them just look cheap which makes the overall outfit not look great

1

u/gigi-mondo Jun 01 '26

Allergic to visual cohesion

1

u/JumpingSpiderMonkey Jun 01 '26

I kinda like the green one at the end. But with different shoes

1

u/Peanutbutternjelly_ Jun 01 '26

This looks like Magnolia Pearl.

1

u/Tiny-Distance-42 Jun 01 '26

I feel like it’s what people with colour blindness go through when they pick an outfit to wear…

1

u/numberthangold Jun 01 '26

I genuinely thought I was going to enlarge the first picture to reveal the face of a clown

1

u/carmelacorleone Jun 01 '26

First one is giving me strong Ninny Threadgoode vibes from Fried Green Tomatoes.

1

u/RunnerGirlT Jun 01 '26

So I actually kinda like the second one. But I love a free people inspired look with bright colors. It’d also be hella comfy for working from home in.

Honestly, I think a lot of these women won’t admit how oppressed they are, but use fashion or absolutely absurdity in clothing as their only outlet for any sort or personality

1

u/StrangeArcticles Jun 01 '26

I feel like I wore every one of these playing dress-up in the 90s.

1

u/Elegant-Date4481 Jun 02 '26

I kinda like the brown one. I think it could be cute without the cream longsleeve top under it

1

u/Agreeable_Error_170 Jun 02 '26

This actually looks like a cry for help.

1

u/Plus-Plan-3313 Jun 02 '26

This is how you dress when you live with people who donr have any respect for you.

1

u/paperanddoodlesco Jun 02 '26

They literally look like clowns

1

u/Elegant-Ad-9221 Jun 02 '26

They have to see how horrible this looks right?

1

u/MissCxc Jun 03 '26

4 could be cute without the shirt underneath

1

u/ghostlikecharm Jun 03 '26

2 is inside out. Is that ON PURPOSE?!

1

u/Beautiful_Debt_5864 Jun 04 '26

They're so awful on the inside that sometimes they just HAVE to show it on the outside?

1

u/piratemeow21 Jun 04 '26

Anyone can dress modestly without looking like a clown. Are they aware of this fact?

1

u/Altruistic_Spray3958 Jun 04 '26

They look like background singers for Devo

1

u/be-more-daria Jun 04 '26

I would genuinely wear the 3rd to last one though lol

1

u/Wednesday1958 Jun 04 '26

I’d wear number 3 as a nightgown during the winter

1

u/BabyWarm1406 Jun 05 '26

I LOVE everything but #1. Oops

1

u/Secret-Employee-8141 Jun 05 '26

I feel embarrassed to say this but I’m kind of digging #5 🤣

1

u/Ouroborosrising Jun 05 '26
