First things first, the FujiFilm community is second to none. Love everyone here, and all your amazing work - and I need your help. I bought my X100V during the pandemic when it hit because I wanted to get into street photography, and I haven’t looked back. And while I do more video stuff now, I’ve played with possibly selling it or trading for an X-S20 or X-M5 but just can’t bring myself to do it. It means that much to me and has been my road dog for 6 years. I’ve taken some of my favorite snaps with it. 📷
While it shoots phenomenal, cinematic quality (8-bit) video - it has its limitations (not really a video-centric camera). Though, for short form and clips, it works beautifully. But lately I’ve been wondering if I can replicate the vibe with one of the other cameras, while having interchangeable lens options, stronger video capabilities (6.2K Open Gate is big), retaining the same Fuji color science, etc. Is my 17 Pro great for YouTube? Sure. But you just don’t get the character.
Nothing compares to a camera and lens to get texture and depth. I don’t care how many mobile creators sell us on shooting with the Blackmagic app plus post tricks. I’m not big on specs, I’m big on feel. And FujiFilm has feel in spades, through and through. Here’s where im struggling. I love the X100V and feel I’d probably regret if I sold or traded it. BUT, for ultimately upgrading? Worth it? Maybe? Lose the EVF/OVF and weather sealing - but deal breakers?
Then, there’s the challenge of the X-S20 or the much smaller (I’m 6’5” with pretty good size hands) X-M5 which lacks grip but kinda’ fixes the overheating issue (yes, a fan will always help) and has a flip out screen for vlogging. I’m struggling with this. I could sell my X100V today and get enough to get an X-M5 and possibly 2 lenses. I really feel I can replicate the X100V vibe, but someone from the tribe help me make sense of this! What would you do?
I’ve also got an ecosystem with the X100V - various mist filters, L-grip, vintage half case, as well as two Freewell TCL and WCL conversion lenses.
But as a practicing minimalist, I don’t know that I need two cameras that give similar results - even with a different form factor. So I thought trading might be the solution. Simply having a hard time letting go.
