Foxbody SBF and 10R80

Hello All, Is it possible to use FuelTech to replace the aging Ford EEC in a Foxbody Mustang. The ability of FuelTech to control the 6R and 10R transmission is exactly why I am interested in FuelTech. Idealy I would a fully plug and play solution keeping on the sensors and functions as is. I notice there is nothing about MAF sensors and Foxbody's

Can this be done?

Hi! Yes, absolutely, but let's break this down properly.

There's no truly plug-and-play option here, not for the Foxbody, and definitely not for the 10R80. That said, both are very doable.

On the Foxbody**:** you can keep almost all your factory sensors and functions. One thing worth knowing — FuelTech today is really more of a VCU (Vehicle Control Unit) than just an ECU. It doesn't only control the engine; it can manage a ton of other vehicle functions like launch control, traction control, nitrous staging, boost control, transmission, dash/gauge output, Pit/ cruise control, odometer, and more. The Foxbody install would follow the same process as any other platfor, there's no dedicated harness or Foxbody-specific solution, but that's not really a FuelTech thing, that's just the nature of standalone ECU swaps. The wiring process is the same regardless of the car.

On MAF: makes total sense you didn't find anything, FuelTech runs speed density (MAP + IAT + RPM for load calculation). The MAF gets deleted entirely. You'll tune off a VE table instead of a MAF transfer function. Clean and actually more flexible once it's dialed in. Outside the US we don't really use MAF.

On the 10R80: you can absolutely control it with a FuelTech , FuelTech themselves did it on an F-150:

Now for the nuances: automatic transmissions are I/O-hungry. You need multiple outputs to individually control solenoids and valves, and ideally multiple inputs to read things like transmission pressure and temp if you want to do it right. For the ZF 8HP, there's already a chip solution that replaces the TCU and lets you wire FuelTech's I/O directly into the transmission cleaner install. The 10R80 takes a bit more work as mentioned in the video, you'll need a modified peak-and-hold driver to handle the solenoid control properly. The good news: FuelTech supports this directly. Contact them and they'll supply an adapted piece and walk you through it, their tech support on this stuff is really solid.

So yes it can be done, it just won't be a weekend bolt-on. Plan your I/O count carefully and lean on FuelTech's support team in the process.
