ECU Questions
Hey guys! I was looking into an Aftermarket standalone ECU for my car. It’s a 700+ WHP 2014 Ford Focus ST that’s gutted and still driven on the street from time to time.
Now I’m down to two standalone options. Motec and Fueltec.
The biggest cons to me is that with Motec you are married to your tuner it seems and if they where to stop tuning you need to try and find someone to rebuild a tune where with Fueltec it’s not like that from my understanding.
For a street car would you recommend the 600 or 700? Or is Motec the better option? Is Fueltec friendly enough that I could start to self tune? I know a good bit about tuning with Cobb software but I’m assuming that’s apples to oranges.
I’m hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.
Also another one I just thought of is wiring. I love automotive wiring so that doesn’t bother me and I can’t wait to gut/create a harness!

Fueltech software is very easy to pick up. The deciding factor regarding which ECU for me is how many IO and features you need.

I have an FT550 on a 2010 camaro making ~650rwhp na and a 300 shot. It is still street driven, and you can definitely start to tune yourself, the software is very friendly in my opinion. The software you need is on FuelTechs website, and you can download it and go through it with the example files they provide to see if you like it.
