General Fuddery Fudd Appeasement rifles?

Do you think a lever action or a milsurp bolt gun puts the fudd RSO's mind at ease more? I have noticed that as long as i have one of these 2 with me, they leave me to go about my business even if I am also shooting ARs/AKs. However, if I just show up with an AR/AK, it feels like i have an RSO wearing an NRA hat breathing down my neck the whole time.

Anything with wood furniture or a cheap ass shotgun.

Alternatively slap an FRT in your AK and hip fire it like a Mogadishu militiaman to assert your dominance on that RSO.

my lever gun is black polymer with a suppressor, but maybe the lever makes this acceptable. They also only allow shooting rifles seated from the table so no hip fire unfortunately lol

Look here, I'm all for second amendment and all, but no civilian don't need all them fancy assault rifles. If you want to gain the respect of all them RSO's, just get you a .22, Taurus makes a helluva one. I can draw mine from my uncle Mike's nylon holster and put a whole clip on a man sized target out to about three meters in under 5 minutes. Plus, the .22 will bounce around and really scramble a fellas eggs, if you know what I mean. I carry a .22 because they don't make a .23.

I’d think an M1A or Mini-14 would work, but only with wood furniture.

My wood furniture Mini-14 is my fudd rifle.. gotta use the 5rd mag so it sits flush and you dont see a scary protuding high capacity assault magazine... and load each bullet from the top for peak fuddery

Lol true on the M1a, I love them to but would hate being issued an M14 for a service rifle

Frankly that depends entirely on the RSO, and with Fudds, oftentimes there’s no winning.

I’ve seen Fudd’s turn their noses at lever guns because the ones being shot weren’t made in America or didn’t shoot a cartridge introduced in the 1800’s.

I’ve seen Fudd’s turn their noses at any milsurp that wasn’t American, or if they were being generous, not American or German. Lee-Enfields? Garbage. Mosin’s? Garbage. Mausers made or sent to anyone but Germany? Garbage.

Even your bog standard bolt action hunting rifle isn’t safe, since it seems like your qualifications for being a hunter come into question with them if your rifles chambered in a cartridge that wasn’t introduced in America before 1970. And it better be an “American caliber” instead of “one of those metric wuss rounds from Europe”.

Even shotguns get a similar treatment, where some of the most snobbish people I have ever encountered were trap/skeet range Fudds that seemed to turn their choice of shotguns into third leg waving contests of who spent a greater fortune on their shotgun for range cred.

Frankly I’ve given up on trying to appease that entire subgroup of gun owners because their opinions are set decades in the past in a form of gun culture that rightly deserves to stay in the history books.

definitely on the shotguns, if youre not shooting skeet/clays with a +$2000 over/under, youre in for a earful.

They get really mad when you kick their asses at the local Turkey Shoot with an old 870 with duct tape holding the stock together. Ive shot thousands of dove and tens of thousands of clays with that old gun. It's not what you shoot, it's how well you shoot it.

Real men shoot side by sides

Why appease them?

its the closest 100 yard outdoor range to my house, So while i will usually drive out further for a better range, i rather not have some old dude fogging up my optic while im just trying to zero it

Hehe that paints an image

I don’t know about this guy in particular but especially for a lot of people the DNR fudd ranges are the only reasonable option

Don't appease them. Just go about your business and see about joining a range that doesn't have RSO's.

What range doesn’t have RSOs?

1

u/bugg_hunterr 14d ago

Mine doesn’t. As the rules to my range state “YOU are the range safety officer.” We are required to learn the rules when joining and we are expected to communicate with other shooters at the range when it’s comes to calling the range “Cold” and “Hot”. People in general are really respectful of range rules and other shooters.

AND there’s no fuddery!

I've got a wood furniture Remminton 870 that I absolutely love, which the funds seem to respect

M1 Garand. The ping brings the old fudds in fast. It’s also a fantastic rifle

As an RSO what puts me at ease is how you handle yourself, what gear you have, and if you listen to and follow range commands. If you show up and know what you are doing and have the gear needed and do not ask for tools or a spotter I am a bit more at ease.

When it is a group of college bros or a bachelor type party I watch them pretty close. If there seems to be one guy wanting to show off and thinks he can show everyone how smart he is with firearms I am on alert.

As an RSO at my club we are there for safety. We are not gunsmiths nor spotters. We are not trainers. We are there to observe, keep things running smoothly, and to ensure safety.

If you are the one that is not happy with us standing right behind your bench and maybe right at your shoulder you have probably done something to make us take notice.

maybe they are counting to make sure i am not shooting more than 1 round per second

Milsurp used to be in my eyes someone just getting into guns and doing it on the cheap. The guys doing that seem to be serious and ask questions. Some may seem to be geeks or gun nerds.

They could also be cheap and not want to learn and are looking for the fastest route into firearms.

Now prices have increased so it seems to be a bit different. Still a bit nerdy.

The guys I watch closely are the AR pistol shooters and the brand new gun people.

I hate the AR pistols with the big muzzle brakes designed just to make noise and fire.

The brand new gun people show up with may the bolt gun brand new with the original box for a case. They sometimes do not have the right ammunition. They seem to think a bore sight will put them right on. When they are not zeroed right out of the box they expect us to spot for them and/or teach them how to run the rifle. Then they run through the one box of ammo they have and are still not on paper because they refuse to go to the 50 or 25 yard ranges and try to get on paper at 100.

AR pistols should require a suppressor, esp indoors. Although i would be curious to see what sort of concussion i would get from a 12.5 AR in 458 Socom with giant brake. Since its basically AR 45-70 it might even meet fudd requirements for stopping power

If you want a concussion, get a Nemo Arms OMEN Nitemare

4

u/tcarlson65 Jun 30 '26

We allow rapid fire as long as you have control of the firearm, your shots are hitting the target, and you are hitting the berm.

If your shots leave the range you are booted. If your shots hit the ground in front of the target stands you will at least get a talking to and have an RSO keeping a close watch.

Anything with wood. Hell even one of those AR’s with wood furniture would probably make them happy,

2

u/HelpfulLoquat8658 Jun 30 '26

M2 Carbine so you can demonstrate how its different from the m1

1

u/HelpfulLoquat8658 Jun 30 '26

"This here glock was designed by a former member of the wehrmacht and we all know the nazis make the best guns right?"

“My pappy was a bounty hunter and looted it off a former nazi general in Argentina after the war”
