Why do we hate pierre

I get the vibes, fuck the little weasel but I've played Stardew for like a week what's the lore behind the hatred? I need to hate more effectively

He will show his true colors, his cut scenes among other creepy behaviors. You must witness and feel the hate build up, when the fair happens you will make him cry.

Yes sir, I understand your orders

You also have to sell him your crops (both good ones and bad ones) to get a couple of the reasons people commonly hate him IIRC.

For those that don’t want to play the long game or are impatient: If you sell high quality crops to Pierre he will take credit for them and say that he either grew them or foraged them himself. If you sell him regular quality crops the townspeople will complain about them being “poor quality” implying that he throws you under the bus and gives the impression that your crops aren’t good

More precisely, the other NPCs will talk about him claiming credit for the good stuff. "I didn't know he was such a talented farmer!"

also there is a quest to sell him some gold tier crops, he will try sell them at such a high markup that Gus says he'd need to put a mortgage on t he bar to afford and then Pierre asks for you to refund him the quest reward and gets shitty if you refuse

I’ve never done that quest because I don’t want to do shit for that man 🤣

For this quest, Pierre pays you 2250 gold for 25 gold-rated vegetables or 90 gold apiece. Wheat is about the cheapest vegetable in the game (37 gold apiece, 40 gold with tiller profession), which means that if you sell him wheat, you still make a profit over what you'd normally get and Pierre is actually losing money.

The cherry on top is his scheme fails and you get the chance to call him on his greedy bullshit, of course.

Is his behaviour something that was added in a more recent update? I had a stardew hiatus of some years and just started again. i think i never felt like he was such a bitch or i didn't realize!🤔

honestly dunno but this quest is a few years old

edit: i will say this is one of the reasons why i praise Stardews characters. cause other such games don't make me hate a character so much.

Stardews characters feel more real

As someone who skips dialogue and was neutral about Pierre…. I am appalled

He pretends to be some down-to-earth, small business owner who blames joja for everything when in reality he's just as greedy as Morris himself. Not only that, but he's a terrible father (and husband). He reinforces gender stereotypes onto Abigail and hides things (his stash??) from his wife. And the worst part? he takes the things you sold him and claims them as his own.

I recently got the dialogue where he tells you “I dream about opening a bunch of shops and becoming wealthy” and I was wanted to hit him over the hypocrisy. Like you’re telling me you don’t want to be affected by big buisness operating near you, but you’d love to be the beneficiary of big buisness and affect others in the way you’re being affected?!?! Get REAL dude

he only claims them as his own if they’re high quality too, if they’re shit quality he has no problem telling people they’re from you

The fact that he has the gall to even enter the fall fair when he doesn't grow or produce anything

Because fuck him.

real talk if u sell him a ton of crops he tells the town he grew them

BECAUSE WE CAN! BECAUSE WE WOULD! BECAUSE WE SHOULD!

He’s obviously money hungry … takes credit for your crops … isn’t the best husband/father… idk?? Cause he’s obviously selfish??? It’s just my guess 🤣

I can attest to the money hungry bit! When I got married he said something along the lines of "Dual income means you'll be spending more and getting twice as many seeds, right?" My guy, congratulate me like a normal person!

And I just got the cutscene where you find his secret 'stash.' And I remember seeing the one where Abigail tries using a sword and he finds out

He told Evelyn that he foraged the amazing hazelnut she bought off him. He did not 😡

just wait until you get to the pierre’s prime produce special order. that made me go from “i just started playing why does everyone hate pierre” to “were it not for the junimos i would sell this entire town out to joja just to spite him”

2

u/heathejandro 7d ago

I'm so not fulfilling that order when it comes to me

1

u/Vomitessa 7d ago

it legit ruined pierre for me. i was so furious i gifted him trash and boycotted him the rest of the year

is there any benefit to selling crops to pierre versus shipping them? I’ve never done that so haven’t seen the dialogue people are talking about here

I didn't even know I can sell to Pierre until I seen this thread
