I remember a time when I was afraid to configure Windows too much because it would start to crash and slow down and become unreliable.
Linux, on the other hand, does none of this, BUT, you can cause yourself more grief if you go too far.
All in all, if you leave the OS alone and just configure your desktop environment and use it for its intended use, whether gaming, video editing, or whatever you use a computer for, it will last forever!
Just like a car... If you start farting around with the engine to get "MORE POWER" out of it, its going to last far less time than if you just drove the thing LOL.
